Well not sure if this is really worthy of a new topic but on the Music 4 website today they annouched that they are creating a new package for newsbeat. I wonder if it will be just a simple reworking or a total new sound...i hope so!

Fresh for 2009!

The team at Music 4 and Music 4 Studios have been working hard throughout December on fresh new imaging for BBC Radio 1... A number of new jingles and themes have been produced for The Chris Moyles Show and Newsbeat.

The hugely popular Chris Moyles Show moves into it's 5th year in January 2009 and will burst back on the air with new jingles, themes and contest beds for the show.

Radio 1 Newsbeat will be freshened up with a remixed theme for 2009.

Audio highlights of all of the new work will appear on music4.com early in 2009.

The current Duu du du du's for Newsbeat are nowhere near as good as the previous ones. As for Moyles his jingles seem to get better every time so they should be good.

they should theme the newsbeat imaging like it was around 7 years ago, it sounded quite authoritatttttive like comedy dave said at the time.

on the grid.

Well.....the new newsbeat theme is on-air today.......

They've made it faster and abit rockier...

The voiceovers at the top of the jingle also sound abit rushed....

I like the bed, it's got a nice rocky feel. There's a distinct lack of the dum dee dum dumm logo which I thought would be expected. There's no real ramp on the introduction to the first ident like there used to be which I think might make it a bit more difficult for Scott, Chris and Greg to hit it as they like to do. I also agree the top ident sounds rushed and the male voice sounds a bit high doesn't it?

Even after all that, I still quite like it.

When they launched the new female voiceover (Holly From MStone) they changed the newsbeat jingle but then changed it again a few days after and changed the effects on her voice. I think they may do it again this time round.....

VERY nice. I was only expecting a few changes like they did when they added the new female voiceover, but much impressed.

Let's hope Music4 add it to their site soon so we can hear the package properly.

I'll add up a recording at 12.30pm if I remember! Not heard them yet...

Edit: It reminds me somewhat of commercial radio's news. It's certainly only a remix of the old package but it's more upbeat and has the Music4 magic about it.

It's a bit loud and in your face for the presenter to talk over but I could soon get used to it.

I think weathers only mornings and evenings. They might not do it at weekends at all, I'm not sure though.

I'm downloading the new theme now, I'm actually quite excited to hear it!

I actually quite like it! It's quite fast though innit?! I don't like the female voiceover's echo of 'Radio 1' but it's quite good :) It does sound like they've kept most of the old voiceovers, and sounds like a remix of the old package but it's good :)

    • Richie Anderson in for Rylan tomorrow.
    • Mylo and Rosie said at the end of their show today that they would also be on Early Breakfast on Thursday 24th July (even though the schedule still says Dean)
    • James is in for Dean from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th August. Dean is in for Greg from Monday 11th to Friday 15th August. Jaguar is in for Sarah on Friday 15th August.
    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
