I'm really excited for these elections, considering staying up late and into the morning just to find out the results.

Interesting incentive from Starbucks - they'll give a free coffee to all those who vote.

The election has been freakin nuts. I've never seen an election get this much press coverage.

Every year, the government people harvest phone numbers and then computers call your house in the evening and recordings play down the phone of candidates doing their spiel. We get the calls at least 3 or 4 times per day. There was one supporting McCain that said Obama was a terrorist. I found that quite funny.

A few weeks ago Obama spoke in my city and I went to the rally. I couldnt get in, but I stood outside the venue with a couple hundred people listening to his speech on big speakers. It was really awesome, cause I've never seen a presidential rally before and he is the first African American candidate and all.

Yesterday some McCain supporters came to my house. It was a lady and her kids, and this girl, probably 8, told me about McCain. I thought it was great that kids were taking an interest in politics and I couldnt slam the door on cute little kids - clearly the mom knew what she was doing.

Sarah Palin spoke near me over the weekend. I thought about going but did not.

And then the campaign signs are everywhere you look, everywhere!

See, my state is what they call a "battleground state" but I'm not really sure what that means. hehe

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm voting for Obama but give me some more web time to research him and McCain. I'm lazy and never get around to researching the candidates until the last minute, although I did watch the debates....well, one.

Obama is a huge celebrity. He's on the covers of magazines that have nothing to do with politics. I saw him on the cover of Source, which is a popular hip hop music magazine (WTF?), and in People Michelle Obama was voted one of the best dressed women along with Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron etc.

I'm pretty sure Election Day is a federal holiday and everybody gets off work and school.

I think quite a lot of the votes on the poll are for who we would actually prefer to win as opposed to who will necessarily win.

No pressure though. You vote for whoever floats your boat. Just glad you are going to really.

I went this morning before work. I was only about 25 minutes in line, but a friend of mine in Baltimore, Maryland said it took him 2 hours! It's nice to see such a good turnout-although I find there are still too many apathetic people about.

Well, no; obviously you wouldn't vote for opposition. I just didn't know you could even vote if you were running.

Pretty much everyone votes for themselves in elections I think, nobody really cares that much.

Only a few more hours until the final result... if I didn't have revision to do tomorrow morning I'd consider staying up to find out.

obama's won, problem is this could sturr up racial tensions i think. not the fact that white people mind that a half cast guy is president, the decent law abiding black americans won't do it. but it's the fact that the 'homies around the bronx' with 50 cent on their car radio's will now be running around claming a victory over white people, with the nutters in the deep south it won't go down well. i saw a few things in the run up to this what made me wonder, plus it won't do any good because obama is still governed by people of all races.

I wouldn't be so prescient as to call this 'a new beginning' as some are calling Obama's victory (you have to remember that Obama still advocates the underlying tenets and principles of capitalism and may even be retaining or appointing some Republicans in his new administration) but in international relations terms and judging Obama's proposed foreign policy agenda I think that we will see an exemplary and long-sought return to nations assuming delegated functions enabling them to restore the concept of an international community which had been ruefully and sorrowfully dismantled under the auspices of the last incumbent.

I think we will witness a renewed optimism in international relations and under Obama a United States that isn't so tenaciously obstructive, unilateralist and parochial but cooperative, deferential, benevolent and, perhaps, compassionate vis-à-vis the rest of the world.

After I voted yesterday, for Obama btw, I got my sticker (the voter sticker) and I went to Starbucks and got my free coffee. woot! Then at the dentist's office I saw on the news that Chick-fil-A, a fast food chain here in the States, was giving away free chicken sandwiches to people with voter stickers, so I went and got one. woot!

yay for free stuff! :D

Everywhere I went the election was all anybody was talking about and I saw loads of people wearing Obama/McCain/Please Vote t-shirts, buttons, hats.

I love the Chick-fil-A! I wondered what happened to the voter stickers. Since I moved to Delaware, I've never seen them given out. They used to in Maryland. I was surprised but happy to see Virginia go blue. It's been a long time for a presidential election.

I am truly delighted that first of all the Democrats are back in the driving seat in the States, that they have finally voted in an intelligent leader who won't embarrass them in public and that I have witnessed the election of the first black president.

There's a lot of hard work to be done though Mr Obama, don't ever become complacent. I'm very happy you're there, but Serin and I shall be keeping an eye on you...;)

      There was talk on my Big Weekend group from the council about them waiting for Ticketmaster to send an email out. They said they've been waiting a week. Maybe they're waiting for train strike confirmation first.

      It’s on Saturday and Friday that week too. I guess this would make sense, as it gives them roughly 6 weeks off weekends until they start the new show?

      Yep am very much Capital Breakfast now. Jordan, Chris and Sian are a great trio and it's got that feel of the old shows Jordan and Chris used to do on Radio 1. It doesn't take itself too seriously but is packed full of content and slick. With Greg he's great but 6 years in you've probably heard it all before plus frankly I can sit through the Capital Playlist a lot more easily than the Radio 1 playlist (where some of the inclusions and omissions can be quite baffling at times). Plus after things like the Oscars or Met Gala or if there's a particularly big TV show or film or popstar then Greg won't half wang on about it at times. I guess it's partly to be expected with it being a Breakfast show on a young station but it can feel very London bubble and get tired.

      I honestly never thought in a million years I’d move from Radio 1 to be a regular Capital breakfast show listener. But it’s got pretty much everything I want - 3 really genuine, entertaining mates having a laugh, playing silly games and it all sounds great. I became a big fan of Chris from his days with Scott, became a Jordan fan on Going Home, and Sian Welby is newer to me but is loads of fun too.  It’s great and I’ve shocked myself by transferring my listening at breakfast. For me Greg’s show now feels very tired and it’s time for something new. But with Jordan gone that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Greg’s had a great run and I’m a fan - but there’s no new ideas now. I still listen to Radio 1 at other times - but this show feels like very serious competition for Greg.

      They have built four new studios to increase capacity, alongside the existing six.  Bearing in mind that some of the output of R1, 1X, R2 & 6M comes from elsewhere, and Asian Network is gradually moving all output to Birmingham, this should be enough!

      I think we've all figured out now how much you like it @AndyK77 😂 Personally while I think it's by far the best show on the Capital schedule and better than its predecessor, it still has the shortened songs and other commercial-radio aspects that remind me why I'm a Radio 1 fan. No matter how well this has worked out for Jordan, and all credit to him for landing the job, I can't help but feel that a Jordan and Katie show on R1 breakfast would have been so much better!

      A few weeks in and I am actually loving the show and Jordan is a nice mix of his old chaotic self and dare I say it a slick jock.

      I really like Rylan, and as much of a fun idea it would be to have Scott and Rylan together, I think Rylan is too much of a main character.  Scott needs a side-kick rather than a full on co-host I think. That’s why he and Chris worked so well, Scott steered the show, and Chris was the perfect person to have alongside him.    I don’t religiously listen to Rylan’s show, but when I do catch it, it’s perfect weekend energy. He has a very warm presenting style too, but something makes me think he and Scott together every day would be a bit too much.

      So pleased for Scott on his best entertainment show win. As much as I miss his R1 style, he clearly puts so much into his shows, well deserved and it’s a big two fingers up to all the abuse he has had since joining R2
