What rocks in your life?

From 4 October 2010 your practical driving test will include a section of ‘independent driving’.During your test you’ll have to drive by either following a series of directions, following traffic signs, or a combination of both, for about ten minutes.

To help you understand where you’re going, the examiner may show you a diagram.

It doesn't matter if you don't remember every direction, or if you go the wrong way - that can happen to the most experienced drivers.

Independent driving is not a test of your orientation and navigation skills. Driving independently means making your own decisions - this includes deciding when it’s safe and appropriate to ask for confirmation about where you’re going.

I suppose it does make it a little more relevant... although with some of the news stories that pop up from time to time you'd think they need to add in 'Driving safely with a SatNav' too.

Anyways, back on topic now, picked up some train tickets today for a trip next weekend :D (sorta scraping the barrel a little? :P)

Congrats. I take it your actual test won't have the new 'Independent Driving' section in (that comes in October, apparently)? You'll probably be one of the last ones not to have to do it :)

Thanks! Oh Lord, I hope I don't have to do that, it looks confusing!

Yeah, congrats!

Woo! Well done! Not long and you'll have the world at your hand/feet/wheel
Congrats., Emma!! :hahaha:

Right, today is lovely and warm, and I'm going to the countryside later with my friend!! We're gonna go sunbathing and can hardly wait!! :hahaha:

The Hoff comes to Zurich!! I want to go and see him, because after the show he signs cards and everything, and I want to ask him, what it was like to meet Scott :D. Ok, I met Scott too, but that's a bit different... ;)

i recently had some form of attack on my pc, which installed some fake anti virus software which "scanned" my computer. telling me i had lots of viruses and tryed to direct me to a website to pay for the software, until avg blocked it. i couldn't even boot up task manager or msconfig, so i had to boot in safe mode and clean it that way.

proud of my skills but i'd love to find whoever creates these viruses, and harm them.

on the grid.

I had the same one...

What rocks in my life is I'm in Scotland, yay, and I've been to Edinburgh. Sadly, because I'm not really able to listen to the show right now, I don't know how to get tickets to the Mills shows :( But I've been to the Fringe, and it was amazing, and I'm going again tomorrow or Thursday.

Should we post where Beccy is, so you can get them when you're there?

Ohai.

Is it Beccy today? Because I don't really want to go anywhere today (I was in Falkirk, and that cost me some money, now I'm trying to save it).

It would be nice, if you would post some updates, though. I might not see them, or be able to make it, but it's worth a try :)

    • I think Ellie has definitely proven to be been a great fit.  The story of her finding a flat and Roger the cat was a real ice breaker for the feel of the show as a whole I think.  Add to that Scott giving Ellie his ticket to the Brits and the stories that came from it, I really think she adds value. Not only is the rapport between her and Scott already brilliant, but she also comes across as a funny, down to earth presenter in her own right.  I think she's fab and will only continue to get better as the show progresses. I would initially have agreed with the thought that she could be a co-presenter, and I suppose her prominence in the show is such that she could be seen as that, seemlessly.  However, for me the show is a bit too guest-heavy for a co-presenter.  That's probably just the nature of having such a high-profile show, I think it might feel like too many voices to try to get a fairly short (and sincere) interview in with a huge star. Back in the days of R1 when they could play fun games with the guests then yes, but I get the impression that Scott needs to go for serious and genuine with most of the ones he has had so far. I mostly prefer the bits of radio without guests - that goes for all radio shows, not just Scott's.  The 6.30-8am where it's just Scott, Ellie, and Tina, are my favourite bits of the show for sure.  Which is a long winded way of me saying that Ellie was a great choice 😄
    • @Opalmoon I couldn't agree with you more. Scott and Chris made genuine magic happen on the radio and I'm starting to think that nothing will ever equal that era.  I often listen back to the old podcasts, and I think you've hit the nail on the head when you say they were effortlessly funny together.  They could make the most simple of things laugh-out-loud funny, and it must have been because they were real friends who just used to make each other laugh, which in turn made brilliant radio.   They have both gone on to do such big things apart, probably more than if they had carried on together at Radio 1, and I'm really pleased for them both.  I don't think you're stuck in the mud (if you are then I am too) - a Scott and Chris podcast would be a dream come true. I'm not sure it could even be a thing while they are both working at different stations, but I hope they can make it work one day.  With Beccy producing, that would be the icing on the cake!   I would love for Scott to be a guest on Chris & Tom Kerridge's podcast, if nothing else.   Who knows, maybe one day Chris will find himself back at the BBC on 5Live and we'd have more chance of having them back working together then.
    • Lauren in for Danni on 28th and 29th March.
