They could do an Early Breakfast Show from like 4am with Ore Olukoga and Start Weekend Breakfast from a slightly earlier time from 6:30am

Saturday & Sunday

4am - 6:30am Weekend Early Breakfast with Ore Olukoga

6:30am - 10am Weekend Breakfast with Sam & Danni

They already introduced an early breakfast show on a weekend a few years ago, hosted by Arielle Free prior to her moving to the weekday early breakfast show. It didn't last that long. It was given up presumably due to low ratings not justifying the cost of a live presenter/production costs etc.

I suspect budgets have a lot to do with this. The audience figures just don't justify the spend, even though clearly it'd be better to have live shows later in the evenings. Given the choice between quality presenters during the day and live shows in the evening, it's not really much of an option!

I know I’m old but does anyone remember the 10pm - 12am live show every night Monday to Thursday with Colin Murray then nick grimshaw took over that was live and that was a brilliant show 😃

Yes I don’t remember much of Colin but did listen to Grimmy’s and then Phil/Alice

Weekend early breakfast imo is pointless very few people are up and agree wouldnt be worth investing in. The 10pm evening slot however I do agree we need a live evening show. Arielle (unlikely now) would have been my choice

I am even older - I remember how great Mark Radcliffe was on that slot (Lard wasn't even named as co-presenter at that stage).

Yeah its a shame the night time schedules were really cut back a few years ago. It appears not much live between 10pm-5am nowadays. I think Dan P Carter does the Rock show live though?

I listen to both Dan and Benji B most weeks and it sort of confuses me. Both  of them seem live at some points at not at others. Both of them give out emails and socials instead of text/WhatsApp number which is usually one of the main signs its a Pre record but with both of them you will get messages that seem to be commenting on what is happening live even on email but it might be the other way around where they are planning the show around it to make it feel more live even if it isn't. I would prefer if it's always live but understand why it can't be

    • I think Ellie has definitely proven to be been a great fit.  The story of her finding a flat and Roger the cat was a real ice breaker for the feel of the show as a whole I think.  Add to that Scott giving Ellie his ticket to the Brits and the stories that came from it, I really think she adds value. Not only is the rapport between her and Scott already brilliant, but she also comes across as a funny, down to earth presenter in her own right.  I think she's fab and will only continue to get better as the show progresses. I would initially have agreed with the thought that she could be a co-presenter, and I suppose her prominence in the show is such that she could be seen as that, seemlessly.  However, for me the show is a bit too guest-heavy for a co-presenter.  That's probably just the nature of having such a high-profile show, I think it might feel like too many voices to try to get a fairly short (and sincere) interview in with a huge star. Back in the days of R1 when they could play fun games with the guests then yes, but I get the impression that Scott needs to go for serious and genuine with most of the ones he has had so far. I mostly prefer the bits of radio without guests - that goes for all radio shows, not just Scott's.  The 6.30-8am where it's just Scott, Ellie, and Tina, are my favourite bits of the show for sure.  Which is a long winded way of me saying that Ellie was a great choice 😄
    • @Opalmoon I couldn't agree with you more. Scott and Chris made genuine magic happen on the radio and I'm starting to think that nothing will ever equal that era.  I often listen back to the old podcasts, and I think you've hit the nail on the head when you say they were effortlessly funny together.  They could make the most simple of things laugh-out-loud funny, and it must have been because they were real friends who just used to make each other laugh, which in turn made brilliant radio.   They have both gone on to do such big things apart, probably more than if they had carried on together at Radio 1, and I'm really pleased for them both.  I don't think you're stuck in the mud (if you are then I am too) - a Scott and Chris podcast would be a dream come true. I'm not sure it could even be a thing while they are both working at different stations, but I hope they can make it work one day.  With Beccy producing, that would be the icing on the cake!   I would love for Scott to be a guest on Chris & Tom Kerridge's podcast, if nothing else.   Who knows, maybe one day Chris will find himself back at the BBC on 5Live and we'd have more chance of having them back working together then.
    • Lauren in for Danni on 28th and 29th March.
