Since Unofficial Mills first started - before Listen Again even if existed as a feature - radio has certainly evolved. I'm curious to know your go-to method for listening to radio.

Blimey, no votes for FM so far.

I still have an FM radio as alarm clock if that counts. :) (I just find it more reliable than a phone.)

It's funny though how FM is actually less accessible (at least for me) since most phones no longer have it and internet became cheaper.

Yeah funny that all phones used to have a ‘FM Radio’ app now they don’t. Shame really, as that was great but now with AppStore’s you can get Spotify and other music apps now so I guess a radio app is not nesscsary as  a default app now

Also I have a clock radio but mines DAB and FM but I don’t use FM as I can’t be bothered going through and finding my local frequency. And DABs more useful

I have a DAB radio with an FM tuner, this is the main device I listen on. Don't really see the point using FM for Radio 1 when the quality is just as good on DAB, but sometimes if a station has a low bit rate or is only in mono on DAB I'll opt for the FM equivalent.

You can't vote for more than one option, but I also listen to podcasts, and occasionally on my PC or phone depending on where I am. Luckily my phone is one of the few that still has an FM tuner, I get a fair amount of use from that.

Bloody hell! Must be an Android one then as I had to download radio apps like BBC Sounds on my iPhone!!

Yeah with the whole DAB thing as well. I have to agree perfectly with you. Mine has a FM option but I don’t use it. As Radio 1 sounds so much better on DAB!!!!

I'd say Spotify + podcasts comprise the majority of my listening. Our equivalent of DAB in the U.S., "HD Radio", is not prevalent outside of major cities and their are only 7 HD stations in our area. I do listen to the local FM/AM stations for NPR, BBC World Service, sports programming, college radio (shoutout LCC Radio and The Impact), and even the two local Top-40 stations (which have a glut of commercials and a narrow playlist). As far as online streaming of "traditional" stations - BBC Radio 1, 5Live, World Service, and TalkSport, more live sports (I have an MLB audio subscription for baseball), and whatever random ones I find in the TuneIn app.

Over here we have SiriusXM satellite radio - a subscription service with tons of commercial-free music + talk, news, sports, comedy, etc. That usually takes precedent in the car. They even had Radio 1 at one point - it's a shame they can't make room for that but have a Kidz Bop channel FFS.

As far as audiobooks I'm not a fan. I'd much rather read the paper copy myself.

Radio 1 used to be on Sirius if I remember right? So what’s the Sirius Xm Like then. Is it like what you US people call ‘Cable TV’ but Radio basically?

Radio 1 was on there until around 2011 I think. SiriusXM costs around $200/yr although you can often work out a better offer. Much more variety than what's on AM and FM and like I said COMMERCIAL-FREE.

I have a DAB tuner in my car so I can access Kisstory/Kiss/Absolute (since they binned it off 105.2)/Radio X. But coverage is really crap which is amazing considering I live 10 mile away from England's second biggest city, Birmingham. So usually go back to FM/MW for absolute or 5 Live when it breaks up.

I actually have an FM tuner on my phone, but it uses the headphones as an antenna which is as good as a chocolate teapot. So with my 3 unlimited interwebs, tunein app. So it's a mix of all for me.

on the grid.

    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
    • - Jamie Laing will take a break from Going Home from 28th July. Sam and Danni will cover. - Greg James will host his show until 11am from 21st July (Monday to Thursday only). - Mylo and Rosie, who previously hosted Hits Radio Breakfast in West Yorkshire, will host Friday EB in July. - Charley Marlowe of TikTok fame will host Friday EB in August. - Tskenya Frazer will host Life Hacks with Lauren Layfield in July, whilst Yinka Bikinni will host with Lauren in August. - Jamie Laing and Katie Thistleton will return to Going Home in September.
    • @eddemundo Thank you 👏🏼 👏🏼 That took some listening on Sounds to get that

    • Did you note down everyone who was on Sunday and at what times? I managed to get: Charlie H 11-1, Oré 11-1, Dean 11-1:30, James 11-1:30 Greg 1-3, Vicky 1-3, Danni 1-3:30, Matt 1-4, Jamie 1-4, Charlie T 3-4:30 Lauren L, Sam, Nat and Swarzy all joined from 3:30 but didn’t manage to listen back in time to know what happened after this.
    • Ore is in for Vicky on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July. CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 20th July.
    • Next Tuesday and Wednesday is now just Jamie and Danni on Going Home.
