2016 Power Intros

I Noticed about a week ago and @Ant L has confirmed my thoughts that a few Idents have dropped the "Where It Begins" tag line. I've managed to grab a few and drop them together here in case any of you have missed them...

Could this mean we're due a new tagline soon? Where it begins has been since January 2015 so it is coming up to the usual 3.5 - 4 year tag line refresh!

What a waste of time that is.. I suppose they are releasing stuff of what the station would sound like if they were still using the 2014-2016 imaging and to be fair if they still were using that package with these beds then I guess the package would have lasted a lot longer but I can't see the point of releasing this now if they are two years behind themselves. It's even more funny that they are using a current voice at the start but then switching to the old voices after that.

That's what I thought, although I'm sure these are on air now but with the current voices.. Seems strange. Although I'm expecting a new Jingle Package to launch alongside Radio 1 Breakfast tomorrow, the Current package has been used for almost 2 years now with what seems like only 1 major update after 6 months, and with the tagline quite clearly changing to "The One..." it seems about the right time to do it.

I doubt we’ll have an entirely new package tomorrow. The preview of the breakfast imaging heard on the podcast (before it was deleted) suggests not much change, and new idents were only launched a couple of weeks back.

Long live the power intros.

Not necessarily brand brand new, but at least a refresh of IDs etc. Power Intros are great, but bring back the TOH :D

Who doesn't love a montage.

I've never heard that ident with the Dance Anthems theme/Ibiza anthem before. Was that ever used on air?

My thoughts exactly!

It has been used on air before but not now due to dropping “Where It Begins”, but I thought I’d include it!

* MONTAGE ALERT *

Admittedly I'm a few months late with this one, but here's The Sound of "The One" - 2019 Edition!

This one is very "One-tro" heavy as I felt they were on top form last year. I've already made a start on 2020, so that might one get posted on time ?!

    • There was a time when everyone knew Zane Lowe or Annie Mac or Judge Jules or Dave Pearce or Annie Nightingale. Does the Radio 1 generation know the current bunch?
    • Looks like it's off to Preston!
    • Would be nice to give more presence to the specialist shows over bank holidays. Surely the best way to promote new music credentials over anthems? As much as I accept it's very popular.
    • Peak radio 1 ! I agree with Bluestraw there was huge presence by specialist presenters then , certainly something I think radio1 could do more of now. Remember the takeover where specialist DJs would swap into main shows for a week? Or do we recall In New DJs We Trust, the competition on Chris moyles show where the winner would get a DJ set at radio 1s Ibiza weekend, and that is how Danny Howard’s radio career starters
    • Yeah. He started on R1 in the late 90's when they used do the 'Sessions in the Nations' where they used to split for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. He then moved to daytimes, firstly on weekends in 2003 then they replaced Mark & Lard on the mid afternoon slot in 2004.  Then he moved to late evenings as a specialist DJ.
    • Thanks for sharing that - I don't think I've seen it before. Didn't realise that Colin Murray off of Countdown and R5L used to be on R1! Several other current R2/R5L/R6M names there too.
    • 29th April has updated to show Dan back as presenter but still Nels in for Alyx on Introducing Rock.
    • Where do we think Radio 2 in the Park will be this year? Personally I'm thinking Swindon after Scott's clue of it having many roundabouts and since Big Weekend is at Luton I can't imagine they'd go to Milton Keynes.
    • Yeah, I feel like they need a big push on Jack to cement him in his new position. But it shouldn't just be Jack, you've got Sian and Alyx for instance, who are relatively new faces.
    • Now in it's third week, the new Capital Breakfast Show seems to be settling down well and there are more of the informal, random Jordan topics appearing.  Though it is clear he wants to be seen slightly differently. It really is a very decent listen.
    • Just watched that advert and it made me realise quite how many 'big' specialist presenters there were back then
    • I've been reminded of this Radio 1 cinema advert. I remember being so excited to see it. The In New Music We Trust era. Everything felt so cool, even if they had Westwood.
    • Just Vick and Katie on Wednesday (and presumably Thursday as well).
    • Unless people can provide a source for this information then it should be treated as false.   Why would Jordan sign a contract with the BBC in the autumn when he agreed a deal with Global?  He could have left in August and not had to deal with the BBC.  Vick who doesn't really like Global why would she recommend him to go there and then warn him in her post to be careful?   It's been whispered from October that Roman was thinking of going.  Roman and Jordan have the same management team.  Why would they put Jordan in a place where he would have to battle with the BBC.  They could have agreed a deal with Global for Jordan in the summer.  They might have had to pay first couple months but they would do they to secure him.  If they had known about Roman wanting to leave they could have paid Roman off to get Jordan on air quicker.  Global would also not had legal around BBC contract to deal with and would not have had to pay the BBC to release Jordan.  None of what people say makes sense and if it did happen the way people say then BBC are not the stupid ones.  It really is not a good look to be talking with Global for 6 months, to then sign a contract with a the BBC, continue to talk to Global behind BBC's back after signing and then couple of months later want to leave and to throw a hissy fit as the BBC are not giving you what you want when you want it. That not a good light for Jordan or his management.
    • Wow, surprised he signed a new contract in September but it says a lot about Jordan that he continued to a very high standard throughout last summer/autumn if this was all going on in the background.
