Terry Angry At Beeb Celebs

SIR Terry Wogan yesterday had a pop at BBC celebs like DJ Chris Moyles for their charity commitments.

He said it is a “shame†they are keen to support Comic Relief and not the Beeb’s Children In Need.

At least they are not getting paid to host it Wogan! He should donate all of that to the cause and not his back pocket!

He has a fair point - everyone seems to go all out for Comic Relief and ignores Children In Need - but then again Comic Relief only occurs once every two years so is more special.

For me, Comic Relief has always seemed more "cool", whereas Children in need is all dodgy regional BBC presenters and cheesy skits from the cast of Eastenders. In Scotland Children in Need is particularly bad, as we get stuck every year with performances from ropey scottish pop acts like Darius and David Sneddon.

I think Children In Need has become more high brow over the last decade and it's only bosses to blame. The amount of bloody musicals, it's a good job there's an alternative. At the end of the day though it's still going to charity...

I agree :)

Comic relief always seems to be better viewing.

wrong Jono !

what do you mean "everyone seems to go all out for Comic Relief and ignores Children In Need" just how much have radio-1 dj's done for CIN, i didn't hear or see anything from the radio-2 dj's or get involved in anyway !

you have all the people who are on the bbc doing stuff for CIN, from eastenders cast, dragons den to the news readers & many many more.

what has Terry actually done for CIN ?

all he has ever done is present the show & get paid for it, (he did do Qi once & ruined the whole thing because he is to stupid to get it or he thought it was beneath him) next year then Terry if you are so bothered about it, why don't you do some training & go & clime K2 & get people to sponsor you (as it seems you won't do anything for free) or are you to lazy to actually do ANYTHING ?

im never going to support CIN again while he is on the show.

Terry should bugger off with his pal Gambo, sad, bitter miserable old men.

Some newsreaders and the Eastenders cast are hardly all star studded show. It wouldn't hurt for the higher paid celebrities to get involved with both telecasts. It's not like they're even in the same season.

higher paid ?

some of the people on eastenders are on over £100k a year & what difference does it make how much they get paid ?

the people they have on CIN are the most recognizable faces on the BBC, as i have said everyone else does more then Terry all he does is turn up on the night & then pick up his cheque & go home, i bet its even one of them big cheques to make himself feel better than everyone else.

Yes but there aren't just Eastenders working at the BBC. I'm not saying Moyles should shift his butt to help this cause. But there's plenty of other stars absent from both. Paxman occassionally pops his miserable face up - but not very often. I bet he gets a big pay cheque.

its just the same for Comic Relief then, not everyone at the BBC contributes to Comic Relief do they, instead of moaning about it Terry should come up with some ideas & do something about it.

PS. i can send him a few ideas that Gambo & himself could do for CIN next year :D

:yeahthat:

To be honest, I support CiN, Comic and Sport Relief. I have done for a number of years now.

Anyway back to the topic (delirious from virus,so all over the place srry), Terry can hardly talk. Yes, he hosts Children in Need, I hear hes paid for it though, which kinda defeats the object (I mean, if I got the priviledge to host such a show I'd donate my fee to it!). Comic/Sport relief, and Children in Need are all fantastic. But CR gets more attention because of how much more it gets discussed. It's been on TV, Radio, Online, and in Stores accross the nation since January. CiN gets what? 1 TV advert, and 1 Radio ad? It's hardly force fed to the nation is it?

Anyway, just a few thoughts from me. Apologies if the post makes little sense, but I'm pretty delirious right now :P

Radio 2 raised over £2,000,000 last year for Children in Need by doing a money can't buy auction and taking Listeners request. I think people are being a bit harsh on Terry Wogan here while he is paid a standard fee for presenting the show he has stated he'll be happy to do it for free and him being paid for the show is a decision made by the BBC.

Terry may have a good point about these celebs, but personally I tend to favour Comic Relief too as atleast most of the money goes to Africa which at times really need the money.

it's makes no difference if the decision is made by the BBC, he has made the decision to accept the fee when he could donate it.

anyway, i'm sure that Radio-1 will top the two million mark :)

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
