TAKE THAT’s GARY BARLOW has been laid up with an agonising back injury — just days before he is due to climb 19,000ft Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief.

The singer, 38, injured his fourth vertebra while training for the trek.

But he was said to be determined to be fit in time to leave on Friday.

Gary was hours from pulling out of performances at the Brit Awards and a benefit concert for Warchild on Wednesday — but kept going with strong painkillers.

The next day the Back for Good singer was whisked off for a scan at the Olympic Medical Institute in Harrow, West London.

A source said: “Gary has had a twinge in his back for a few weeks. He has a baby daughter and lifting her also put pressure on it.

“He is now flat on his back at home so the swelling goes down.”

A Comic Relief spokeswoman said: “We are fortunate to have the support of eminent sport professionals on the climb. Gary is lucky they found the injury in early stages.”

If Gary pulls out thats going to be pretty funny. I wouldent be surprised if Alesha Dixon pulls out next week too.

God, this is awful. I hope he's OK. Alesha Dixon, I do believe, is gonna pull out!!

Moyles was good with Steve Wright yesterday afternoon! Moyles was talking of altitude sickness being a worry!!

The documentary of the Kili. climb will be going out on BBC 1 at 8 p.m. on Thursday, 12th March '09!!

Apparently, if you get to the top of Mount Kili., you can see the actual curve of Planet Earth!!

BTW, on Steve Wright's show yesterday afternoon, they randomly broadcast the voice of the woman who says, "Oh, what's occuring"?!! Why.

Yeah i thought he was great but instead of just playing out what was recorded you can tell they edited out alot of the breathes out of it which sounds bad.

Steve Wright is famous (in a non-famous way) for editing the breaths out of pre-recs, so much so that they sound completely unnatural.

I'm surprised if he even turns up for the show nowadays. He has a stupid 'webcam of the day' so you can't see if he's there, and most of his show is pre-recorded. In that respect I'm glad Scott has canned most of the pre-recorded stuff.

Gary Barlow was a guest with Paul O'Grady last night. Gary says there will be a means of tracking the climbing team via www.rednoseday.com.

Denise Van Outen says she and Cheryl Cole have now become so close that she's planning to grill her for wedding ideas. DVO is getting married later this year. DVO says, "I'm taking my notebook up mount Kili., so if Cheryl's got any wedding ideas, I can make a little note of them".

Finally, there are limited edition wines out for Comic Relief.

Red nose red = £4.99

Red nose white = £4.99 At least £1.00 from the sale of each bottle goes to Comic Relief.

Well the Radio 1 total yesterday was £200,000

This morning it went up to £310,000.

It now (10pm) stands at £431, 922.

So they have added nearly £250,000 in one day!

--

Thats just the radio 1. The whole comic relief total is £482,506.

So, without Chris/Fearne this climb would have raised hardly anything so far!

I hope this is 2 fingers up to the media.

I believe Chris actually donated to his own cause when it was first set up. But yeah, he definitely could afford to give yet more. It kind of surprised me on the chris moyles' show that members of his own team hadn't donated initially. In a way, they should be the example to the rest of us.

I thought the climb was due to start on Sunday...they had a bit on the comic relief dance show tonight....everybody but Chris looks really fit. I wonder if he will have the stamina to finish the climb?

Also why should anyone including his team fell obliged to donate to charity? I thought it was a free choice?

I will happily pay my taxes in full and work with kids in need, and try and support politicians who advocate change, but I dont see why I should have to donate to anything?

It was recorded yesterday lol. Whatever time they were recording it, I can't remember if he said or not

The bit where Chris said that wasn't prerecorded, Vernon was talking to him. The bit after was prerecorded though.

    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
    • I heard something about what is your favourite wood? Wtf 😂
    • Was the same vibe on the Easter Monday show they did too. Just random questions and the like…. Katie is definitely the glue around making the show listenable.
    • Vick and Jamie together are quite… awkward. Random discussion seems to be at an all time high without Katie. Maybe it’s just that there’s a lack of features today.
    • Jamie not even knowing about the big weekend day and the fact he starts the show at 14:00 just says everything.
    • I still haven’t forgiven Radio 1 for signing Laing. Vick and Jordan was good, you could hear the chemistry on air
    • I just want to add though that I am beginning to enjoy the show a bit more now that it’s settled in - I think Jamie (when he’s there) has calmed down a bit and then the new features that have been progressively added over the last couple of weeks have been good too.    I still don’t think it’s a patch on Vick and Jordan together, but it is now a show that seems like it could have legs into the future and once Matt and Mollie start in July, I could see myself sticking with R1 all afternoon.
    • I think it’s a slimmer line-up and seems to fall short in previous years where it seemed almost double that I know Raye is booked to perform and is a headline name. I think the issue with a station like capital they are dealing with a rather lacklustre year for pop and theres no real big pulls for pop festivals that are an easy sell out right now. I think Capital has had seen it’s Capital Ball’s as for any generic pop music listener I don’t know whether Bradley Simpson, Aitch and Paul Russel have the universality to play in a stadium even Sugababes think it would be better if they chosen a smaller outdoor location or Wembley arena.
