As a smoker myself, I don't think it should be totaly banned but at the same time I do think that non smokers shouldn't have to breathe our smoke...So I think that seperate bars in all pubs is the way forward.

That wont work either. If you are in a group of 70% non smokers and 30% smokers (you know like ones that regularly go out together, your spliting your friendship groups up. Last night out of 6 of us that were out only one was a smoker but if we were going into a non-smoking bar we wouldnt leave him out

Hey all, im new to this however after reading this really felt that i needed to put my view across,

As a smoker myself im getting sick of people moaning about how second hand smoke is causing them health problems. Understandable to those who have no choice like young children who should be kept away, but why not turn the tables around to everyone else and say, if you dont smoke go to another pub or dont work in places where its smoky, i hate it when people go into bars where they know smoking is allowed then sit there tutting all night about it. :mad:

Yeah I see what your saying, but you wouldn't have to sit in the smoking bar all night. Like with my friends the majority don't smoke, so if we were out I would be in the non-smoking bar with them and just nip off to the other bar when I wanted a fag....A hassle it would be but it's better than having to go outside or something.

Bad idea, I dont smoke myself, but my some of my friends do, now ive said it, but ill say it again, have no smoking and smoking parts of bars/pubs that way people who dont like it can go there and people who want to smoke can smoke.

I persnally dont mind people smoking around me, if you go outside you lungs get filled with s**t anyway with the crap cars give out.

But I feel a complete ban is discrimination against smokers and its singeling them out, maybe we should ban loud music in clubs as it does damage our ears and the people who work their, especially DJ's ;-)

I am fed up of this nanny state and the f****g government telling us what to do.

The problem with 'non smoking areas' in pubs and clubs, and I've seen it before, so it isn't a theory, is that you end up with a few plebs sat in the non-smoking areas being dull: reading newspapers and moaning about bus fares. The non smokers who want to be sociable end up in the smoking areas complaining about the smoke. You can't win.

Maybe in the cities there will be enough of a market for sociable non smokers, but it wont be any good in rural areas. And I see no problem in having pubs which are clearly indicated as smoking pubs - if you don't like it don't go in.

This is sad news indeed...I can understand pubs but to ban it from private members clubs isn't fair it should be up to the members. I know how everyone down my local Workmans club would vote to keep it smoking.

I think this is good news myself. People are saying that there not going to go out anymore course they are still going to go out my friends who smoke will still go out i know that i dont smoke myself and smoking doesnt bother me when im out but it will still be good i think

Our Government earns so much money from booze and fags that if nobody smoked or drank we would be in a right state, so it's a bit hypocritical trying to outlaw something they rely upon so heavily.

im glad they made the law this way. i find smoking extremely annoying, and hopefully this will cause a decrease in the amount of smokers. or at least a decrease in the level of addiction, hopefully more people can go out for a couple of hours without the need for a cigarette.

over here in france the teens smoke and its not nice having to get off the bus in the morning and get a whift of it not nice.

I dont smoke, but my mam has a small village pub, where most of the regulars do smoke.

when im on the bar, i come home stinking of the stuff, my clothes and hair are awful. but im not to sure about the ban , i think it will ruin small pubs like my mams.

i think it should......i hate having to breathe in other peoples smoke.....they keep talking about it being a clampdown on human rights that they can't choose to kill themselves, but even so....surely its against my human rights to have to breathe in smoke without choice and therefore be killing myself.....

sorry tis quite a sensitive subject for me.....my grandpa died of lung cancer and it was probs due to second hand smoke....so sorry if i sound a bit tetchy!!

As a former smoker I for one now cannot stand the smell of cigarretes, working in a college and having to pass through all the disgusting second hand smoke makes me want to vomit. I am now seeing how others around me must have felt. I am glad I gave up, I smoked around 100 a week which would equate to almost £80 a month!!.

I for one would definately advise kicking the habit and I completely agree that smoking should be banned from all public places, if Smokers want to kill themselves let them do it in their own private space and not risk passers by suffering passive smoking.

As a smoker myself (10 a day, 15 @ weekends) I totally agree - I think it's the best thing to come from the government in a long time.

Why should our bad habit prevent others like pregnant women, asthsmatics, families with elderly and small children and just general non smokers from going to the pub or a restaurant?

The smokers should definately be the minoirity in public places. Our disgusting habit should affect us and us alone. We can't expect others to suffer at our expense.

Yet I don't think we should be frowned upon - Its our choice at the end of the day - I know doctors who smoke! (Not that it makes it ok)

Hopefully this will encourage smokers to give up and realise its a f***ing waste of time and money - I'm working on it!

Not sure how it will work in clubs though - the dj's are not going to ber best pleased that everyone has to vacate the dance floor for a ciggy!

My mum used to smoke something like 20 a day but gave up cos it costs loads i know people who smoke including an ex and he even decided to give up me for smoking cos i told him what i thought about his habit.

Wel he's a bit of a twat then int he! Wasnt worth your time anyway honeybee.... But a simple compromise would have worked - I have been out with guys that dont smoke and we would go to a restaurant and I would quite happily sit in the non smoking area and not smoke till we went to a bar. Respect thing I guess - but you have to also respect our decision as well - we know the dangers and dont need it thrown down our throat. .. Maybe sometimes....I'd give up if for the right guy. Simple case of whats more important i guess

Yeah tbh i think its best we didnt comprimise cos now he's hooked on weed and i dont want anything to do with him anymore.Ill find the right guy one day im sure.
