It's become a running discussion point on here and elsewhere how ever since Matt & Mollie stopped doing the 1-4pm slot on Friday to Sunday it's become a bit of a lucky dip with no permanent replacement for Matt & Mollie yet selected or any indication of when or if there'll be a permanent replacement.

In a way I'd rather they take their time and select a good replacement rather than Danny Beard it (in fact I wish they'd done this strategy with Going Home after Jordan's exit until Katie agreed to do the show from LONDON?!) .

Who's impressed so far of those you've heard? Probably stating the obvious but IMO James Cusack and Emil Franchi have been standouts and could easily if they wanted to do the slot full-time from tomorrow. Both strong listens and had good features. Can't help both were slightly overlooked in the 2022 changes.

James has been the strongest by far. It'll be a shame if he's overlooked. Emil has been a decent listen these past few weeks too. They're the two that have stood out for me.

I do think the best idea would be to move Sam & Danni to Friday-Sunday afternoon with a new solo presenter on weekend breakfast.

I wonder what the deal was with that Jack Remington, who popped up during the summer detention thing? Wasn't it mentioned that they referred to a new presenter then he walked in?

I'd like to see it given to Joel Mitchell, who's really grown in confidence since his earlier cover stints. Emil and James are great too but tbf have been around on various stations for a few years now, and it would be good to see new talent be given a chance.

Emil is good but James C is still a cut above IMO. I know he's a bit older than some of the options but it's incredible he's still not got a regular show given the amount of quality cover he's done.

agree I still think James cusack is by far the strongest from his month in june and its easy to see why he came out on top by a long way of the favourite r1 cover presenter poll.

Dont get me wrong I think some of the others have come on but you would expect them to with lots of shows. If james did end up with the 1-4 weekend slot they would need the next crop to cover plus any other weekend shows therefore its important that most have sounded good.

I've said this before when he was paired with vicky, I've listened to emil on absolute and he is good on there but find him to skew a bit old in terms of content and talking points on r1

Emil is better than James for me but they're both miles ahead of all the other cover presenters. As you'd expect as they're both really experienced ie maybe a bit old for a 'beginners' gig on R1!! It's a catch 22.

Controversially I quite like the rotation and getting loads of people a chance to shine/learn though and wouldn't mind it carrying on, just maybe elsewhere in the schedule

I agree the rotation has been really great for presenters to get a short gig at Radio 1, maybe they should've done it on the 10:30 - 12:45 slot instead on Friday - Saturday for a month.

They already had a rotation slot with Friday early breakfast, which I assume will return in January.

    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
    • - Jamie Laing will take a break from Going Home from 28th July. Sam and Danni will cover. - Greg James will host his show until 11am from 21st July (Monday to Thursday only). - Mylo and Rosie, who previously hosted Hits Radio Breakfast in West Yorkshire, will host Friday EB in July. - Charley Marlowe of TikTok fame will host Friday EB in August. - Tskenya Frazer will host Life Hacks with Lauren Layfield in July, whilst Yinka Bikinni will host with Lauren in August. - Jamie Laing and Katie Thistleton will return to Going Home in September.
    • @eddemundo Thank you 👏🏼 👏🏼 That took some listening on Sounds to get that
