They've started using new IDs more often now - Dev in particular seems keen, but I also heard on Clara's show this morning. Sounds like the main male voice is the one who sounds like a cross between Chris Eubank and Andi Peters. Not a fan to be honest. I preferred Mike Wooller.

Just heard a 2016 review/2017 teaser promo this moring and Rachelle Abbott (The female heard regulaly in the power intros) was voicing it. Highly indicates that the old voiceover's will be gone next year.

Ha ha ha!! Yes!! This is so true! Not a fan though. Any of the previous males have been far superior to this one!

Just heard a Live Lounge trail on Cel's show with the new voiceovers and there was an "Official Chart of the Year" sting on Dev's show the other day with the new male voiceover. Most of the beds now have new IDs on them now too. Surely it would make sense to launch it properly tomorrow for the new year, the launch of "Jan Slam" and the arrival of Mistajam. Having said that, the changeover of voices has taken so long and been so all over the place that I'm not sure- also seems weird to launch a new sound when the schedule's changed around and the two flagship show presenters are off. We shall see....

You say that, but the current NewsBeat launched when Grimmy and Greg were off last year, as well as "Where It Begins". It appears anything goes in terms of imaging at the moment haha!

They're certainly dragging this out, last time took a whole day, at this rate it's going to take a whole year :P

That aside though, these past few days I've been thinking the amount of Power Intro usage is a bit OTT, or is that just me? Dev started with a new TOH yesterday and continued to play songs with normal Idents between them for at least the first half an hour, and I thought it sounded better!

I'd agree with you there - power intros tend to make the playlist sound more repetitive, even if they're not. I think the first song at the TOH and BOH would suffice, then do manual segues into the second song. That's what they used to do with the 1tros (although I think back then the segues were premixed).

Also, a great anorak tip: Dev's shows are always goldmines for idents and sweepers. He tends to play the new ones, and his segues are usually quite sloppy so there's a bit of a gap between the end of the ID and the start of the song - result: the latest clean jingles in full.

See now with NewsBeat being on the half hour as apposed to the TOH it throws this out a bit because I would have the TOH ID after the news, but the news isn't at the TOH (unless it's the 15min).

So i'd have a TOH ID at the TOH, maybe follow that with a Power Intro or usual DJ/Show IDs. And then out of the news have a DJ/Show ID that flows into a Power Intro because they all say BBC Radio 1 anyway (similar to what they did with Gregs shows, but so much better).

Great idea but only if met with meticulous production, i.e. pre-edited and not slopped over the top. It sounds so obvious when it is.

Am I being really stupid....but what is TOH and BOH? Thanks in advance.

Haha apologies, I hadn't even noticed I'd put it like that! I think it could work quite easily though and wouldn't require that much more effort to accomplish!

TOH - Top Of Hour (so like 12:00:00 or 16:00:00).

BOH - Bottom Of Hour!?

The Where It Begins slogan came in 2015, as did the current Newsbeat theme.

Think I've found a great Mike a Wooller intro, here.

where exactly please?

Thanks for the timings. I like the intro, not amazing but i do prefer these two voices to the 'Chris Eubank/Andi Peters' sounding man.  Too much production can sound a bit gimicky i feel.

    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
