Valentine's Day 2012

Xmas is just a menace to society at large. I mean, what if you are totally non religious.... You have to give out loads of presents anyway, and today's economic climate, many people can't afford it. as to valentine's day, i heard a girl in a shop yesterday tell her bf "you better get me a bunch of flowers". awful. plus, i am still trying to work out if my own card with a bull pasted onto the front means something. these days just cause nothing but problems.

Luckily there's only one lady in the office smug about Valentine's Day here or it might be unbearable!

one would be enough!

not really for me. but on a positive note, it's a good oppertunity for buisness' like card and flower shops. especially with the bad times with the recession and all.

i always look at what my mom and dad did for valentines day. they wern't really interested in it, instead choosing to celebrate their own anniversary which is in june.

on the grid.

Spent the day shut in my room, rewatching the Luke and Reid storyline from a crappy American soap opera for the fifth time. My birthday today and I'm equally depressed. Not got any cards or presents. No special meal. Just gunna stay in my room and moan about how much I hate my life.

Yay.

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.

Aw. Bless. Belated happy birthday. Can you treat yourself at the weekend.

Thanks, but it's not belated, when I said it was today, I meant it's today. xD Had a really depressing start to half term, but now I'm being a bit more productive and I did get one present, so it's all good! Might go shopping tomorrow and splash out. :)

they wern't playing the usual motivation songs in the gym yesterday, instead it was 4music. i managed less time than usual on the treadmill.

So glad I managed to almost completely bypass the whole thing. Nothing was mentioned at work, and the flatmate was out (presumably with other half) yesterday when I came in from work so I didn't have any mushy soppyness to deal with.

Its all a load of pish, I'm by no means anti-commercial or anti-capitalist etc, but when it comes to Valentines day it really gets on my nerves. People in relationships are pushed into buying unnecessary things and making romantic gestures. Those of us who are single are either left feeling shit because they feel all alone or that that liking they have for someone isn't mutual, or we're called miserable etc for being glad we don't have to waste time effort and money on an otherwise totally pointless event. Yes I am single, and yes last year I was feeling shit because a girl I liked didn't think I was enough, however I've always been anti-Valentines even when I was with my ex. This year there is no love interest and I am just glad I was able to more or less get through the day without having to acknowledge it. Saying that, I'll admit I had a look in Asda for their "smart price" card to send to a mate for a laugh, did anyone actually see them at all this year?

I've never had the secret admirer type card but I know if I was to receive 1 I would just feel awkward. Not only for myself but also for her as I would have no idea who it was who liked me so wouldn't know how to handle the situation and she would spend the day knowing she had taken the time to do something like that for me and I was either oblivious to her interest in me, had no interest in her whatsoever, or not deemed her worthy of sending something even if I did like her as well. If I was in a relationship I would much rather do little things throughout the rest of the year for no reason other than because I wanted to, than be pushed into something just because of what date it is and be charged a hell of a lot more to do it just because of the date as well.

Apparently so yes, there was something about it in the Metro a week or so ago. It had the big logo on it and it was in the smart price colours, I don't know if it is a regular thing for them but I remember a few years ago hearing them and joking with the ex about us getting them for eachother. Unfortunately I can't remember if we actually bought them after all.

That's something I would probably do, something of a joke which sometimes has more value than a card from Clintons that has a joke on it.
