Edith Bowman is set to ditch radio for a career as a scriptwriter.

The Radio 1 star, 36, is desperate to get into TV and film and has already met top producers.

hmmm, keep doing radio & write in spare time, very difficult thing to get into more so to make a living from.

That's a shame really. I quite like Edith. I never heard her on weekday daytimes but her weekend breakfast show is quite good and shes good when she covers for Nick Grimshaw. I'll miss her. I can't quite see Dev returning to that slot so I guess the weekend breakfast slot is Matt Edmondson's now then. Yippee..

Fair comment, she's better than that, but to me it's obvious her R1 career is going no further.

To be honest I would have thought that if Nick Grimshaw was to be moved to daytimes or if Jo Whiley were to leave Edith would be one of the frontrunners to get those slots. I think she still has a future at Radio 1. But whatever she chooses to do, I wish her the very best for her future.

I thought you were too busy 'socialising' and attending 'parties' to listen to radio, anymore? :P lol

I don't get the love for Matt either. He sounds like a wannabe Simon Amstell. Also, it seems to me like he isn't a 'radio natural' he sounds like a tv presenter on the radio, moreso than Fearne. He's fine when he's with someone else (Fearne, caller, a guest) but doing links on his own I feel like he's talking at me not to me. Although, I haven't listened to him in a while, he might have improved.

I highly rate Tom Deacon though I'd fancy him as the 'next big thing' on radio 1. Although that would probably mean him ditching Switch and stand-up, would he do that?

Tom Deacon is also on The 5:19 Show (the TV and online one, not just the radio show), where he is a television presenter. The 5:19 Show has the potential to be amazing, but unfortunately it's just a stupid children's TV show, with divvy presenters, with some teenage content in the form of immaturity.

Basically, I think he's pretty diverse in his range, but I'm not sure if he'll be 'the next big thing', because right now, he seems to be a simple children's presenter.

OMASM. Radio presenters are like fruit. Matt is my kumquat and Scott is blatantly my orange.
