Does anyone know if Scott's been ill while covering the breakfast show and who covered for him? i don't think he has recently, i just wonder what would happen if Vernon wasn't available we could have Dev on early breakfast (he never mentions he does that show when he's covering for someone else) and on breakfast.

It makes a change, it's usually Scott who's ill.

That comment makes it sound like scott is off ill all the time?!

I cant remember Chris having a day off sick in the whole 10 years I have been listening to Radio 1. Zoe Ball and Sara Cox yes, which is how I first became aware of Scott, as back then he was on Early Breakfast and had to stay on and cover all the time! Even when Chris was on Drive I cant think of a time someone had to stand in for him as he was ill!

What do you expect, it IS Vernon filling in, isn't it? :P

I'm not listening but not only for that reason. That said, if only Scott could be the one to fill in at such short notice. They seem to be taking this on a day-by-day basis at the moment which is the only way they can really.

yes, fair enough... He never is that brilliant. I do like him in the weekend Slot, but put him in breakfast, and it's the same story every time.

Plus, he was on about his Family Fortunes stuff, and not wanting to look too tired for the filming. But it's just too bad, isn't it, really?! People will be off at R1, and someone has to fill in!!

Hmm someone who seems more bothered about a TV career than a radio one... this sounding familiar to anyone? ;) There are key differences of course, mostly in reaction to him. I'm sure I don't need to point these out.

(I don't want to turn this thread into that discussion as there's already a place for it)

have to say I disagree with some of the more recent opinions, Vern is one of the best presenters the station has! Sara is alright, but only in small doses.

I think theres a definite distinction between Vern's weekend show and when he's in with the team when Chris is off (whether it be climbing mountains or illness). He seems to have more chat and banter with the rest of the team like Chris does, and I think its pretty clear they're all friends and get on really well off air as well. Sara's interaction with the team makes her more bearable as well I think

Vernon was only brought in to do the car talk with Jay Kay imo, Sara would've probably fallen asleep on him. I would like to have heard more about Jay Kay's music/private life, but shame, it seems he's not interested in discussing these topics. Oh well. Look forward to new album...

Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed Sara in for Moyles. Thought she did a top job. Her and Dave make a great duo. Dom and Tina were a little quieter than usual. Good shows last week nonetheless. Aled was on great form. Bet he hasn't slept properly for 5 days, poor little thing.

Get well by Monday Christopher!

How patronising. That's a grown, competent man you're talking about.

Oh Viv. It's clearly more of a term of endearment from someone that obviously likes and admires Aled...

I enjoyed both Vernon (surprisingly as he is more suited to weekends) and Sara for the change - I find Moyles can get a bit 'samey' in his content and delivery, so a refreshing change.

    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
    • I heard something about what is your favourite wood? Wtf 😂
    • Was the same vibe on the Easter Monday show they did too. Just random questions and the like…. Katie is definitely the glue around making the show listenable.
    • Vick and Jamie together are quite… awkward. Random discussion seems to be at an all time high without Katie. Maybe it’s just that there’s a lack of features today.
    • Jamie not even knowing about the big weekend day and the fact he starts the show at 14:00 just says everything.
    • I still haven’t forgiven Radio 1 for signing Laing. Vick and Jordan was good, you could hear the chemistry on air
    • I just want to add though that I am beginning to enjoy the show a bit more now that it’s settled in - I think Jamie (when he’s there) has calmed down a bit and then the new features that have been progressively added over the last couple of weeks have been good too.    I still don’t think it’s a patch on Vick and Jordan together, but it is now a show that seems like it could have legs into the future and once Matt and Mollie start in July, I could see myself sticking with R1 all afternoon.
    • I think it’s a slimmer line-up and seems to fall short in previous years where it seemed almost double that I know Raye is booked to perform and is a headline name. I think the issue with a station like capital they are dealing with a rather lacklustre year for pop and theres no real big pulls for pop festivals that are an easy sell out right now. I think Capital has had seen it’s Capital Ball’s as for any generic pop music listener I don’t know whether Bradley Simpson, Aitch and Paul Russel have the universality to play in a stadium even Sugababes think it would be better if they chosen a smaller outdoor location or Wembley arena.
