September Schedule Changes

It was announced last year around 16th July, that the daytime schedule was changing. This put Greg and Fearne on in the week, and moved Edith and Jo to Weekends. What will happen this year? Im personally hoping for more Sara and Huw, and less of Fearne

Fat chance that'll be happening in a while!

The BBC put her there for a reason and although her viewing figures have been declining as of late, they obviously feel she's gonna be a longgg term investment.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Hmmm, I don't expect wholesale changes as they happened last year. My predictions

- Moyles back for another year

- The departure of one maybe two weekend DJ's

- Permanent show for Matt Edmonson

- Possible weekend show for Huw Stephens

Aside from that I wouldn't expect much else.

This is absolutely untrue. You may not like her, but she's no less popular than Jo was in that slot. Not at the moment anyway...

I like Cotton.

The audience hasn't declined but their hasn't been a signficant increase in attracting new target audiences, such as the BBC had hoped for when they installed Fearne and Greg in their positions.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

She gets fuck all in terms of viewing figures on radio anyway, so you might have a point!
True ;) - I don't think there's gonna be any massive changes in September, but I'd be surprised if Matt didn't get a full time slot. It's just knowing where to put him. Maybe he could take over the Request Show on Saturdays, they don't seem too keen on Reggie anymore.

Who are you thinking? I have a feeling if anyone goes it'll be Reggie. Possibly Vernon. But I still doubt there'll be any daytime departures this time round.

I think they had more longterm ideas when putting them in place. This talk of dramatically falling figures is crap, especially the idea that running ads is for that very reason when they do the same for Moyles...

We'll probably end up with miss gobby and overrated back in a slot whenever she wants and which she'll be taking holiday from half the time anyways...

Possibly Vernon leaving this year, maybe Edith and Nihal too. Also maybe loose some of the specialist DJ's during the week.

I think that the 9-10pm slot needs to be more focused! Its just to all over the place and doesnt relate to anything!

Regular slot for Matt - but cant think where he would suit. He was good on Earlies but Dev only just took that slot.

Schedule changes are hard to predict this year, as nothing can really change with Daytimes or weekends now until either Moyles or Scott go/reduce hours or take smaller shows. The area where the station needs and overhaul now is Specialist stuff!

Hope the announcement is soon though!

I think in the case of Scott, the most likely thing to happen is to lose the last hour (maybe shift Newsbeat from 5:45 to 6PM) or to shift him to an hour earlier start, and even though those are the most likely things, I can't really see either of those happening anytime soon.

On weekends I think the most likely exit could be Edith

and hopefully Vernon will go finally..

Edith wouldn't be much of a loss as long as Jo is still on weekends before going to 6Music/Radio2, but could definitely do without Vernon. Edith would probably still be doing festival coverage and stuff though so wouldn't disappear from the BBC altogether.

Good shout, he's been on the radio alot filling for people so hopefully he gets more 'permanent' time.

in september i hope we see the departure of vernon as i cant stand listening to him. I also would like to see matt edmonson go as he cringes me out but i know the chances of this are very low as he is seen as 'new talent' for radio 1.

Can't believe there's so much dislike for Vernon. I think it's just because he's actually got a bit of personality...

I want more rob da bank! Loved his shows on SUnday nights and his A-Z this monday (earlier) as part of the storys thinsg was good - maybe that could become a permanent fill for that slot? Or bring him in on weekday night over Giles Peterson or Nihal on a Tuesday to do it!

Also Vernon has to be a cert to go? His presence has been so much less at the station the last 6 months, and the slot is needed to keep talent like Matt Edmondson. Where would Huw go? Surely not weekend Breakfast, as thats for people on the way in our out! Huw is already established! Natural position would be Grimmys show but that wont be free until cCott or Moyles leave as Im sure Grimmy will take one of those shows.

My take on this is there will be minor weekend changes but not a lot else. The main reason being that with the current economic climate there will be huge pressure to make cuts at BBC in general and Radio 1 next year so while the ratings are stable they will keep things as-is for the moment.

The BBC Trust did report that Radio 1 was doing well to cater it's audiences, hence why I believe there should be if any, minor tinkering.

Annie Nightingale Facebooked this yesterday

Exclusive news! Big project for Radio 1 in Sept. Keep it locked and watch this space.

No idea what. Sounds good, I've always said that Radio1 underuse the legend! Could it be something to do with birthday celebrations or maybe the return of the request show? Since Switch is being phased out and all that.

Really chuffed that Moyles' contract has been renewed! I knew he wouldn't be going anyway, but its just reassuring to know for definate.

I can't imagine any massive schedule changes in the near future, maybe with Sara coming back soon the weekend schedule may get a slight shuffle, can't see anything major though.

I thought maybe Matt going to early breakfast and Dev to weekends, but actually I think Matt is more suited to just the 2 weekend shows. I like Matt as a person, but I prefer him as a visual presenter rather than on the radio.

The only change that seems likely in my eyes is more focus on specialist shows, especially the dance DJs (In New DJs we Trust rather than Annie, Jules, etc). I would really like Grimmy to sod off and allow specialist shows into his slot, but what would I know?

Obviously I don't think Fearne should have her slot either. She talks about herself, her showbiz friends, all of the other 'work' she does and then about herself a little bit more. Doubt she will go though.

You know what, I'd like Nihal to get his weekend slot back...

7:00am - Matt Edmonson

10:00am - Vernon / Coxy

1:00pm - 4:00pm - Nihal or Jo Whiley

4:00pm - 7:00pm - Reggie

?

That would be nice. I would prefer Sara over Vernon on the 10am slot but I don't know where Vernon would go instead :(

    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
