  1. I don't agree with the idea that the target audience aren't around to hear Fearne and Greg. College and uni certainly don't work to the same hours as school. Fearne would be the Radio 1 Breakfast Show for most students.
  2. True - I don't think there's gonna be any massive changes in September, but I'd be surprised if Matt didn't get a full time slot. It's just knowing where to put him. Maybe he could take over the Request Show on Saturdays, they don't seem too keen on Reggie anymore.
  3. This is absolutely untrue. You may not like her, but she's no less popular than Jo was in that slot. Not at the moment anyway...
  4. Wow - Evans on 9.53 million. That's a million and a half up on Wogan's figure. Nobody was expecting that. Radio 1 also up quite a bit.
  5. Scott always says she's on courses, which the BBC probably send her on. I doubt she's skiving!
  6. He's not moaning, he's joking around. Don't be silly.
  7. It is. The same jingle can be heard in this old Chris Moyles clip. It must have just been lurking in the system somewhere. Although I think Radio 1's imaging could do with being freshened up, I don't think it'll happen for the time being.
  8. I thought he was great today. Sounded really relaxed. Great find Radio 1! But the jingle he played was an old one from around 2005ish. That woman was the old station voice.
  9. Yeah agree with you. I think he relied on the texts a lot today, but I expect he won't as much when he loosens up and becomes more comfortable. They were probably a bit of a safety blanket for him. Likewise, the Abs thing was well intentioned if a little bit flat. He hasn't done radio before, so it'll probably take a while for him to find his style. I'm sure his producers and the bosses will help him do that though. It'll be interesting to hear him on early breakfast this week, where it's slightly less formatted - maybe that'll be his chance to shine...
  10. Just the last hour didn't work? Or the whole thing? What sort of show do you reckon he should be doing?
  11. Yeah I must admit I did enjoy the lie-in. Maybe the bosses wanted to see how he sounded doing a normal show? I'm sure they're looking to find a slot for him in the next reshuffle.
  12. It has been renamed - it's called the Sunday Skive now. I liked him too. He's got a nice quirky style and a good voice. Given time, hopefully this week on early breakfast, he'll loosen up a bit and rely less on texts and show more of his own personality.
  13. Switch with Annie and Nick can be OK sometimes, but I think Tom Deacon's new show is the first one that people in their 20s will be unable to enjoy. He strikes me as incredibly childish and irritating. The rest of the lineup seems OK, but I don't see the sense in having Grimshaw and Mac on at 10. What will they do if Deacon's already done the 'wackyness' earlier in the evening?
  14. But local radio just isn't taking the risks on presenters like Chris and Scott like it was 10 or 15 years ago. They've got to find new talent from somewhere.
  15. To be fair, people like that are institutions BECAUSE they've worked at Radio 1. Chris, Scott and Coxy all started there in their early 20s, and it's only because they've been around for so long that they've acheived their current status. I like the sound of Matt Edmondson, and I reckon he could grow into a really good presenter. It's nice that they're hiring someone a bit different and a bit edgy too.
  16. Very interesting that Jaymo and Andy George are covering weekend breakfast. I wonder if Radio 1 are planning to move them more into the mainstream, or just gain more exposure for the specialist shows? Either way, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they get their own show. I like them.
  17. Radio 1 is still hugely influential in showcasing new music from all genres, although this is mostly in the evening. But that's not necessarily a bad thing - people like to hear things they're familiar with during the day. If you want more obscure stuff during the day, new artists, and some older songs, plus less frivolous chat, then surely 6 Music would be more your thing?
  18. Surely it was deliberately that way? I think the video's funny.
  19. Interesting review from Miranda Sawyer in today's Observer, talking about Greg James, and Radio 1's whole daytime output. Apart from the bit about Scott, I think it's pretty bang on the money. What do you reckon?
  20. Exactly. Young people want to be entertained and excited, not related to.
  21. He does have one. It's harder to find though. That'll teach him.
  22. Controversial BBC 6Music DJ George Lamb is to leave his weekday show for a new weekend slot on the digital station. He will be replaced by Lauren Laverne, whose Saturday afternoon show will be taken on by Radio 5 Live's Richard Bacon. Lamb, who has divided listeners to the music station, will give up his current weekday berth between 10am and 1pm to move to the 7am-10am breakfast slot on Saturdays and Sundays. 6Music's current weekend breakfast DJ, Iyare, will leave the station as a result of the changes, which take effect from Monday 30 November. Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish's award-winning 6Music Saturday morning show will start an hour later, at 10am, as will Liz Kershaw's lunchtime slot. Bacon will be on 6Music from 3pm to 5pm on Saturdays, and be followed by Jon Holmes, who moves from the 2pm slot. "Lauren is an outstanding talent and we're delighted she is going to be a pivotal voice on the network," said Bob Shennan, the controller of Radio 2 and 6Music. "George has done a brilliant job in daytime and I'm pleased he's agreed to transfer his amazing energy to weekends. "And with Richard joining Saturday afternoons, it's a significant and exciting time in the development of 6." http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/nov/02/george-lamb-leave-6music-daytime Maybe Lauren on mid-mornings will pick up the disenfranchised ex-Whiley listeners who don't like Fearne. Seems like a logical move for the BBC.
  23. Oh right. Hope so - don't wanna feel totally thick. I do get the snail one though.
  24. I don't get it either. Anyone care to explain?
  25. Yeah they've been doing it for a few weeks now. I've mainly noticed it on Greg James on Friday afternoon. Another attempt to to appeal to the yoof I expect. I'm also getting sick of hearing Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk and Taio Cruz on a loop the whole time. Radio 1 does sound quite Kiss-esque at the moment.
