Of all the DJ’s to come and go she’s one who should be in the conversation for biggest impact ever. Growing up she’s always been the voice of dance music. I regret not tuning in each week for her now. But when I did. I always loved her passion. She’s a great loss to the station. 

I’m looking forward to it. Great to way to build up Jordan and Vick as the future of the station.
Altough.. I do hope we get one last hide and seek with Greg and Grimmy. That was the best live radio I’ve ever listened to.

During anthems go back a little further in time. Rather than just do late 90s 00s some 10s rinse and repeat.

I hope we get one last hide and seek game. Because those were radio gold.

The one more change that I think will happen before 2023 is that Adele will leave, and be replaced by Katie. That’ll be the end of the Katie and Vick pairing, and Sam and Danni will take over Life Hacks.

It’s going to be sad to Annie leave after so many years at Radio 1, but it definitely feels like she wasn’t pushed and that it was her own decision.
Clara getting Future Sounds is a promotion for her though, and I for one can’t wait to hear the new show, as she definitely has a talent for new music radio.

100% agree. Alice was much better than Dev.

Capital dance is good I listen to mistajam on sat nights it’s like his radio 1 dance anthems show but with a fe ads which I’m used to now

I used to work at a radio station (not R1, think smaller!) so I have a bit of an insight into this, although I'm sure it varies.
Where I worked, around half of the presenters were staff and half were freelancers.  Staff had to request leave and have it approved - freelancers could just say they were 'unavailable' but we would expect a reasonable amount of notice (apart from sickness) so that cover could be arranged.  At R1 I believe all of their presenters are freelance.
We would have a list of presenters who could cover each show - their suitability would be based on profile, experience, other work/commitments, so lots of factors.  There would always be a preferred cover presenter for each show, and I think you can see that at R1 certain people tend to cover certain shows regularly - often they try to find someone 'similar' to cover.
If more than one daytime presenter were off at the same time then you would also consider how the day 'sounded' in terms of different voices i.e. avoiding 3 male or 3 female presenters in a row, for example, so there was variety to the sound as you went through the day. 
Part of my job was to book presenters to cover leave but the overall decisions around who could cover each show was made by the editor - the manager in charge of the station.  I would make the phone calls to arrange short notice cover, although at weekends there would always be a manager 'on call' who could make those decisions too.
In my job, finding cover presenters was always fairly easy - it was much harder to cover a producer or newsreader who went off sick!

Tbf, despite the stick he gets from the general public, i do think he's good at what he does. He's a good DJ. However, he worked his way up from weekend breakfast/Sunday nights, through to evenings, then the second longest breakfast show. There's nowhere else to go now, apart from back to weekends. When the move to drive came, i did enjoy the show and it did start off with some good new features, but personally for me it's now suffering from the same fate his breakfast show did towards the end. Apart from when they have a guest on here and there, the show only has a handful of features which have become a bit stale. Especially with Jordan's rising profile, i think it's now perfect time for a change. Even if it is a direct swap in the interim.

I had a drink or two with him at the Big Weekend in Middlesborough, and he still wanted to take the beer cups back to get 10p in return. So down to earth ?

So proud and excited for Aled. What do we all reckon will happen with the station going forward as it was hinted there will be exciting changes.
There will be a heavier social media and digital presence that's almost a guarantee. 
The daytime music playlist may be looked into a bit more he's such a big pop music fan so can see it becoming more 80% pop chart hits and 20% Alternative genres. 
The schedule will remain un touched for a while as he would've had a real say over changes in the past year or so. However i would expect anytime now an announcement that Jordan North has got Friday-Sundays 10-1 when Lockdown schedule is over.

My name is Isaac and I’m currently a Computer Science student. I am also a massive radio geek as well – I’ve been listening to Radio 1 now for 6 years and to The Official Chart for nearly 6 and a half years.

I’ve been a long time lurker on this forum (5 years I think!) and I’ve loved reading the comments and posts about Radio 1 ever since I found this. I’ve always wanted to join in the fun with comments and posts of my own but I’ve either delayed putting it off or been too shy to make a move. Hopefully, with everything strange going on, now is the right time.

I look forward to getting more involved with the forum during times of big discussion here, whatever happens to Radio 1. Maybe a new presenter might join. Maybe Scott Mills will do 9 years in the afternoons. Maybe Jordan North will get the primetime slot he deserves. But for now … thanks for having me!

Thank you for organising this! The results are very interesting but mostly what I expected really. Although I didn’t realise this forum had so much love for Arielle but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I would be very happy for a future radio 1 schedule to look like that.

There were 63 responses. 67% of responses favoured including Friday in the weekday schedule, leaving only 33% favouring a three day weekend. The most popular new presenters were (in no particular order): Riyadh Khalaf, Abbie McCarthy, Gregor Davidson, Jessica Maciel and Vick Hope. Matt Edmondson is more popular alone than with Mollie. Dev and Alice are more popular together than apart. Dev was slightly more popular than Alice. Cel and Katie are more popular together than apart. Katie is more popular than Cel. Scott and Chris are more popular as a duo than Scott is solo. The only new double act suggested a significant number of times is Annie and Grimmy. Rickie, Melvin and Charlie were always voted as a trio other than for dance anthems where Charlie was preferred solo.

We seem to be going over the places that One Big Weekend used to visit. 
But either way I'd be so pissed off if I was Radio 1 and a local newspaper had spoiled the announcement like that.

Mollie on Mids would be dreadful. I really don’t think it’ll happen. She’s not got the right style to do it, she sort of talks in sound bites a lot when on her own a bit like Maya, and just doesn’t come across as authentic.

I hope Matt and Mollie don’t cover again. Can’t stand them together. Would like to see Dev and Alice have a shot.
