Grimmy's new evening shows

I dont think we need to get too ahead of ourselves with the future of Moyles. I genuinely think he will be there for sometime to come.

I wonder if this is just a temporary thing and we've just not been told. Maybe Huw or Rob will be here day?

I'm not liking it. On the occasion that my hamster cage needed cleaning on a weekday (such as today) I'd stick Murray on. It's probibly because it's change and nobody adapts immidetly but as I said on twitter, I keep expecting "face in a bowl face in a bowl" The man has been scarred by switch.

I'm a big Grimmy fan, I think he's got a lot of potential and a big Radio 1 future. But this show seems like a big of a blag. He's just turning up and playing, essentially, future playlist records, rather than bringing anything new, different or challenging to the show. There only appears to be one feature, and even that's ripped off from Chris Moyles. It could be good, and maybe it will be in time, but at the moment it just sounds a bit lazy.

Maybe its because i fit the "children" target audience, being 16, but i enjoyed the show. I thaught he was pretty nervous as, like Colin said, he would probably get alot of stick on the text from die-hard Murry fans.

I think it will get better as he gets used to the format and features, and should be interesting to see what other features crop up in the other days.

I just think it's a good listen for that time of the night but there's not really any direction to it. How can you tell people to listen other than saying "It's got that Grimmy on it". It's daytime material mixed with old playlist songs mixed with a few new indie songs. Not surprised they can't find a place for his show on the website list yet! ;)

Chris is obviously bothered by the amount of non-DJs on Radio 1

Me too. I completely agree with it. The three best talents that Radio One have, for better or worse, are Moyles, Mills and James - all three are full-blooded radio people rather than TV people who decided that radio seemed a viable option (and it rarely is - hi Davina). It's sad, but Moyles is probably the last of the real radio personalities that we're gonna see on Radio One under the current regime, before management start reeling that personality in until it's null and voided and replaced by the psycho yuppies in the vomit state of youth occupied by Fearne and all the other Trashbat/Sugarape-styled Nathan Barleys on the station. Radio One is going to be a really sad place once Moyles, Mills and James are gone because, to be honest, they and Zane Lowe pretty much keep the place afloat.

Phew, that rant was a long time coming.

So anyway, hadn't heard of Grimshaw except for what I believe are him and Annie in some Switch videos which made me want to rip my penis out of my body and shove it down my throat until I choked. He seems a lot better here, but it's not my kind of radio so I'll probably avoid like the plague from here on in. Certainly isn't a Colin Murray... yet. But he has time and confidence to grow, so I'll re-evaluate in a few months.

I liked the show, but it's very different from Colin's, I guess I'll just have to tune into 6music for my fix of alternative from now on.

I still hope with time that Grimmy will stray further from the mainstream though.

btw I disagree with above poster, the three top talents are Moyles, Mills and Zane. Zane is pretty much a radio man though, so it doesn't take away from your point, but I thought I'd have my say :P

I totally agree with Mitchell's post. And I also think DC would echo that as well. He has quite famously before compared Radio 1's current crop of teeny personalities (Edith, F+R etc) and Hello Magazine Radio

1000 Albums Everyone Says You Should Listen To But We've Only Got Time To Play One Track So Here It Is...

Every day we play a track from a classic album. It should only take us five years to complete our list of 1000 albums that everyone says you should hear before you die!

Oh dear god, not another 5 years of this!!

To be honest... he isn't bad tonight. I take most things said back!

I really do hope you're right about Grimey [sic] being a filler. I honestly don't know what the Radio 1 bosses are thinking of; replacing Colin and his eclectic mix of old, brand new and sometimes pretty bloody strange (in a good way) music with this amateur and the usual playlist.

I am less than impressed.

Do I have to stay up half the night to hear anything interesting? Currently listening to Friction and Nihal, but need to go to bed soon....

    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky as well that day.
    • So the end of weekend afternoons this week - new show is July 1st.
    • Arielle is in for Greg on Monday 27th May.
    • He’s definitely gotten better and the show has sounded fine this week. I think it been at its best when it’s been Katie and Jamie or Vick and Katie. Vick and Jamie are ok together, but I do think the show sounds better when it’s Vick and Katie and therefore I still don’t really understand the point of the trio.    Jamie is, however, a lot better than Danny Beard!
    • The RAJAR coming on later this year reflecting later summer to autumn will be interesting to how it reflects Matt and Mollie in afternoons to the revised changes on radio 1’s new music slots and the schedule re-shuffling Radio 3 introducing a new slate of programmes. Then, later on this year have speech radio stations having domestic political coverage of the election but also America’s presidential election.
    • I actually caught snippets of today’s show, and I found it much better than the last time I listened. I have made it no secret that I like Jamie on the radio, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Matt & him together last year. People have criticised him for not being relatable, but I have to agree with the comment above that I have always found him a naturally warm person to listen to. Maybe the going home set up was something that needed settling in and things are starting to take shape.  It must have been difficult for him joining an established duo in Vick & Katie to begin with.  Jamie was great on something songs today, fully engaged in the caller and sounded like a real presenter. Maybe he is doing as a lot of us hoped and really learning as he goes, how to do it properly.
    • Agree with this. The anti-Jamie feeling was IMO quite influenced by the negativity around him replacing Jordan, since Jordan was exceptional and also universally loved. When people mention Danny and Jamie in the same sentence about bad hiring decisions I almost choke - Jamie may not be perfect but he's several leagues better than Danny already and has bags of potential. Danny is poor and has shown zero potential...
    • Jamie started 4 March, and the figures only going up to 31 March, so it isn't reliable. But it has shown the numbers have dropped in afternoons compared to last quarter. It looks like it's Capital's gain.
    • Do these audience figures reflect Jordan leaving and Jamie replacing him?
    • I think Jamie is really starting to settle into the role well. He comes across as really warm, and genuinely invested in the listeners when he’s talking to them which is nice. I think he’s building a really great relationship with Vicki and Katie too. His recent great company podcast is great too, where he has quite a deep chat with someone new each week. He’s clearly a very genuine person and I think he has some real potential.
    • Most probably. But do wonder what the future of the relax themed programmes will be when they officially wind down that service.
    • I think it's just to replace Wind Down presents... which was in that timeslot, and I'm guessing Chillout Anthems was just a buffer since it'll still be played at 06:00 on Sundays.
    • With listening on the U.K. for the industry in general it is good overall as most stations reach is on the up and shows radio to be more sustainable and stable outlet than linear televisions channels. This RAJAR I think with the increase shift to DAB+ the BBC will be able to say it has it’s audiences for the proposed new stations it wishes to launch and think the new innovative ideas that it seems Jack himself can take credit for on the new music show think the younger under 30 gen z demographic could increase se in that time-slot.
    • Conor Knight is in for Sam & Danni on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June. It's Radio 1 at Parklife, 13.00-16.00 on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June. Matt & Mollie are in for Greg from Monday 10th to Friday 14th June - it's just Matt on the Thursday. It's Radio 1 at Download, 13.00-16.00 on Friday 14th June.
    • Rajar looking healthy this quarter, with the numbers staying fairly stable.
