Gigs and events you're going to in 2009

I came to post on the 2009 one...but there wasn't one, so here it is, a shiny brand new one! It's a bit late but it'll b'reet.

Anyway, so far I have Leeds Festival, Green Day, Kasabian and Take That to look forwards to. Gary Go is confirmed to support Take That, with Lady Gaga, The Script, The Saturdays or James Morrison as well, depending on which venue you go to.

Anybody else got anything exciting lined up?

Friendly Fires if they return to Norwich again this year... As some Subscribers are aware, I managed to miss them on Wednesday last week =[

Was that because you were ill or did something tragic happen?

I've had a really light gig year this year because I've seen all the bands I want to see, bar about three (Nine Inch Nails, Daft Punk and The Prodigy). Saw AC/DC the other week but otherwise I won't be doing anything until the end of the year.

Am a bit gutted to be missing Green Day, though. I've seen them already, but they were really good.

Uni summer party "the student glastonbury", as they like to call it.

Young Knives, The Rakes (third time this year for me), The Futureheads and a headliner to be announced. Plus Kano, Chase and Status, Pendulum DJ set, Petebox (a local beatboxer who is really good, seen him twice before at uni events), Late Of The Pier DJ set and loads of other stuff. I'm excited about the Young Knives cos I've wanted to see them for a while and The Futureheads were good when I saw them last year and it'll be good to see The Rakes again.

Just gotta go buy my ticket.

There is a chance i could be going to download...

Cool, that's pretty near here and a load of my friends are going, but there's nothing I want to see there.

I've read that the Get Up Kids may be touring the UK this summer, will be following them around if they are.

I've got my ticket for the uni summer party, only £25, while 'entertainment' only tickets for the graduation ball are £40, and they haven't even announced what the 'entertainment' is - it'll probably be lame.

Black Stone Cherry are really good actually, I saw them in December with Stone Gods (the members of The Darkness minus Justin Hawkins playing heavier stuff) and it was a really good gig. Black Stone Cherry are definitely very passionate and do a good live show and Stone Gods put a lot of effort in to get the crowd involved even though they were only a support band. So go see them. Otherwise, Download appeals to me even less this year than it has in previous years.

Come come! Come with! I'm actually surprised I'm allowed to go - when she went to Kasabian with my dad and sister they replaced me with someone from work! How very rude indeed.

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
