Moyles' salary remains unchanged?

The salaries of top BBC stars such as Jonathan Ross and Sir Terry Wogan will not be affected by the corporation's pay and bonus freeze, it has been confirmed.

Hundreds of senior BBC managers were told their performance bonuses would not be paid until further notice and their salaries frozen.

Thousands of other BBC staff who would have expected a bonus this year were also told it will not be paid.

Staff at the corporation's commercial arm, Worldwide, will continue to be eligible for annual bonuses in line with existing contractual commitments.

The measures are expected to lead to savings of more than £20 million.

The likes of Ross, who reportedly earns £6 million a year, Radio 2 presenter Sir Terry, who is believed to be on £800,000 a year and Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, on a reported £630,000 a year, will not be affected, as they negotiate their own contracts with the corporation.

A spokesman for the corporation said: "Our talent sign a contract at the BBC which does not fluctuate through their period of working."

Chris doesnt earn £630,000 for presenting his show. In the year that the figures where published he earned that much because of the TV work/other projects he had done on-top of his radio show, etc etc, for the BBC.

Once again the media always trying to fool the public!

Nope, it was £630,000 that The Sun reported. This was years back though. Sara was still earning a lot more than both Colin and Edith and Scott.

Yeah, when the figures where leaked a few years ago, that was how much he was paid by the BBC in total, which included tv work and bonuses for listeners. But its not how much he earns for his show.....

It's a shockingly low number when you compare to what the radio big shots in America earn. Howard Stern got $100m a year to produce his show and pay his staff - and I'm pretty sure that he takes a good few of those m's back home with him. Over half, in fact, if I recall correctly.

But then it has to be viewed in the context that the BBC is a public corporation, as opposed to Stern who probably justifies his salary in advertising revenues (and his shameless self-publicity).

I read that Moyles is getting an £158,000 pay cut... but that was on Heat...

I think that these salaries are a bit rediculous. My friend had just lost his job at corus and he did a 42 hour week on less than 35k. I know these people have some talent, but the money your talking (even if moyles is on slightly less) are a bit rediculous, particularly in this recession. There are a lot of people doing much more important jobs for much less pay, like nurses, some if them fearful of job losses. BBC should lower the wages of it's stars and perhaps salvage a few jobs in doing so.

It's not just for his radio 1 show though, it's for his tv work that he does as well.

However medical staff are undervalued :(

But......If your agent managed to get a shed load of money from the company you work for.....you'd take right? Surely you wouldent go 'oh no, i cant take that because of everybody else'. Its a dog eat dog world!

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
