Jono wants a mini laptop!

You can still get the tiny form factor with a decent sized (well, 100s Gb) hard disk... But for purely surfing, they're ace. Be aware most of them run Linux though (inc. the one in the link), not Windows - which actually isn't a bad thing.

I just want a small computer for lectures and uni stuff so I can pick up wireless. I'm not fussed about anything else. I want something on a student budget. Can't really take my massive laptop in.

Having looked up quickly, Lenovo have recently released the attached laptop with a 10inch screen and a pretty good spec for £290... slightly more than the other machines listed here though :-(

I tried Sam's suggestion today and it arrived earlier. I have to say it was hell on earth with Linux coming up with an Error 17 message on boot. After searching on Google it appears to be a common problem and the only solution is to reinstall Linux. As it doesn't come with anything it was not much help. I rang HP and got an Indian who was trying to send me a DVD and was trying to convince me I'd be able to use it - there's no DVD drive! Plus it'd take 8-10 days.

Anyway, I rang eBuyer who would have took it back and sorted it but it seemed like a lot of problems. They advised I could try it but I didn't want to mess with it and not be able to send it back.

Very sexy model so I've added an extra £100 (not what I'd intended on doing!) and got a Vista version. Shame really as Linux was something I wanted to try but I'm a bit put off. Hopefully this one will be fine.

Well HP seemed to going running scared when they heard it was Linux.

what version of Linux was it? Ubuntu? It takes a while to learn, but once you do you see the benefits :)

Enterprise Desktop 10. Never really got to see any of it as it didn't loan past the start up!

Enterprise Desktop 10.

That's SUSE Enterprise (now distributed by Novell, of interest for NetWare and the 90% share of the file and application server market they had before Microsoft's NT Server came along. We still use it for our directory infrastructure, it's better than MS's offering)...

The error 17 is actually with Grub, the boot-loader (like ntldr - what you use to get into safe mode) - it can't read the disk the OS is on. It is actually correctable without reinstalling the OS.

However, it's absolutely terrible they send them out in this state. And then fob you off with solutions you can't even apply!

Good to hear you got something sorted in the end.

    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
    • I remember hearing Amy first on Scotts show and she was great on that, the daft quiz questions always made me smile. It's really nice to see the hard work has paid off for them all.
