Moyles to climb Kilimanjaro!

Recommended Posts

Chris has announced today that he is going to take on Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief with a handful of other celebrities.

But this is worrying me.

I do not like the amount he has already started talking about this trek and he's not even doing it for another few months!

From thinking he is going to die, to not wanting to do it, to discussing poo (yet again, disgusting so early in the morning), it was just so bloody boring. At 0915 hours, I had to switch stations, returned to R1 at 0925, and the discussion was still going on.

Either climb the bloody mountain, or just plain don't, and give the rest of us peace. Someone prove me wrong and that this will be worth it?

Well I didn't hear the discussion but I have huge admiration of what Moyles does for Comic Relief and other charities. This is sure to be one of the ways he'll prove he's devoted to his job with the BBC.

I would have thought Moyles would be the last person to help climb Kilimanjaro - good on him :)

Couldn't have come at a better time with all this 'high paid' scandal ;)

Im all for charity, but Id agree with Viv, it was a bit boring this morning. Chris didnt sound as if he wanted to climb the mountain at all, but none of the rest of the team would allow him to contemplate giving up. Sounded crazy to me.....if Chris doesnt feel like climbing a mountain, dont make him do it!

I have also always liked Moyles' involvement with charity events. I agree with Viv, although I wasn't listening to that particular discussion, when I was listening earlier in the morning, I found it equally unentertaining. The shows have become noticeably less comical recently but this morning was such a bore.

Does anyone know if there is going to be another series of Celebrity Fame Academy for Comic Relief next year ?

I hope so, I don't like reality shows anymore but I always like watching this one for some reason :)

Anyway, I can't imagine Moyles climing the mountain and I completely understand why not because it looks incredibly hard to do, that "only 8 out of 19 or whatever number will make it" statistic was quite scary. But if he does go through with it you have to take your hat off to that.

I'm wondering where on earth Gary Barlow got the idea. It's really quite random and off-the-wall.

Please remember that from January the Moyles will be looking for people to donate to the cause, and they will be setting up a Site where you can donate. I'll donate if he promises to shut up about it! :-)

I didn't realise Fearne Cotton will be doing it too.

If you don't like what he talks about or the length of time in which he talks about things then don't listen to him. Most of your posts recently seem to be about how much you're not enjoying Moyles, yet you seemingly continue to listen.

The Band members apparently don't like her new "holier than thou" image, which she has now got thanks to the X-factor.

I was watching a TV programme the other night called "Girls Aloud Off The Record" (or something like that), and I found Cheryl quite whiney and demanding in that, compared with how calm and together she appears on the X-factor.

  • 2 months later...

Cheeky-faced Moyles will shortly be looking for donations for his mountain climb!! I believe the situation is that you will be able to choose who you wish to donate to from all those doing the mountain climb!! Fearne Cotton and Rachel are also going.

As Moyles was saying yesterday... if every listener gives just a little, it will add up to a lot! Please help if you can!!

Moyles is training well, and yesterday he was in an oxygen chamber no less with Gary Barlow and Ronan Keating!

I don't think the sponsor stuff is up yet - I was just trying to get the climb some ATTENTION. I'm sure Rachel will organise something though for the start of February? Maybe a justgiving "thingy"? Who knows.

I'm currently thinking of stuff I can give up, in order to give cash to this thing - less caffeine for starters. And less pecan & maple pastries from TESCO (aaah, the sacrifice).

I can't imagine Fearne on the side of a mountain either.

I'm also wondering if the outing will result in Chris & Rachel no longer speaking to one another.

    • I see Katie (and Mairead) were out with Jordan tonight.  I don’t listen to the show any longer, I am shocked they are allowed to mention Jordan.
    • At least I do not ask stupid questions…😂
    • I suggest you follow the other DJs too if so, you will learn the hardest working will go further 🤣
    • A simple check on his instagram would answer all your questions , he’s on tour with his wife and the team behind his podcast. I suggest anyone to follow the radio presenters, you will learn a lot about their other jobs and work commitments.
    • Where is Jamie? It felt like he was settling in when Vick wasn’t on but he’s not been on since last Tuesday now. They’ve not even mentioned him, in fact they’ve mentioned Jordan more than they’ve mentioned him in the last two days.
    • Scott's show is on the road next week, live from Malmö in Sweden on Wednesday and Friday, ahead of Eurovision. As he's doing the semi final coverage on the TV on Tuesday and Thursday alongside Rylan, Gary Davies sits in for him on those days.
    • I don't feel there's so much overlap between M&M and Scott's shows. M&M is of a similar calibre to Scott & Chris on R1, with genuine laugh out loud moments and usually a show packed full of real interesting content. Scott's R2 show is IMO a shadow of the stuff he did on R1 (not his fault, he's doing exactly what station management want), with music and content to appeal to a much older audience.
    • To be fair, Scott & Chris would've still been fine on Radio 1. It was mentioned at the time that Scott's move was very much on Radio 2's part rather than Radio 1 wanting to move them on. That's the one problem that Radio 2 has, trying to appeal to such a wide demographic.. it's the perfect listen for many, but equally a turn off for many others. I think they have the balance fairly right.
    • I agree Scott has always been a good standalone presenter, but always better when with someone. When chappers left the radio one show it felt a different show and Chris joining was what it needed and brought new life. for the format of the radio 2 show Scott’s show fits well with the station but again, there’s the huge gap between radio1 and 2 As been said already old radio2 listeners feel it now feels too young with latest changes, yet old radio1 listeners still feel radio 2 feels too old. The inbetween stage demographic of too old for radio 1 but too young for radio 2 is still not catered for radio 2 was left to grow old with its audience for too long and to change things up now feels to try and change a brand image the right thing to do is leave it as it is and cater for that 1.5 demographic which I’m sure the new proposed 00s and 10s station will do if approved. Problem is it’s so overdue that by the time it gets off the ground these listeners are already likely to be lost and the changing image of radio2 likely to lose what it stands for as a brand with the “it’s too young now “  moving to boom and the “ it still sounds old “ crowd not able to move with their favourite presenters like Scott so finding themself on capital a radio 1.5 would have been perfect for Scott and Chris, seems unlikely but this is why I think who branding of bbc radio needs a rethink if these new stations get off ground
    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
