Well, I just think things are that simple.

I mean, if you like someone, but you're not officially with them, then you're single.

And if you're with someone, but you're having problems, you're still in a relationship (unless you've split, which means you're single).

But putting 'it's complicated' can warn other people off getting involved, if that's what you want. It just invites questions though.

MSN profiles used to have the options of 'single and looking' and 'single, not looking' which I think were good ones. It's nice to have a range of options anyway.
