Jordan North joins Capital Breakfast

Did anyone listen to Sexted my Boss yesterday? Jordan didn’t give anything away which I suspected. But I did notice when William mentioned Jordan announcing Steve Wright’s passing on air, Jordan seemed to pass it off a little (to be fair, he’s had a crazy week and it probably felt like a long time ago) and then mentioned Chris Moyles and how he loved listening to him when he was younger. I’m only an occasional listener so it might be normal but I thought he seemed a little down.

Anyway, I do wish Jordan all the best. He wanted to host breakfast - he’s went and got it, just not on Radio 1.  I’m doubtful I’ll be moving listening as I feel faithful to Greg. But can always catch up on Jordan if there’s a podcast

I do hope there is a podcast with a trio hosting they got plenty of people to make it work they got Shaun Keaveny doing a podcast only show that is associated to the Radio X brand which is an entertainment daily podcast. Global has been increasing their original podcast content I can think they would want Jordan North to be involved with that and capitalise on its podcasting boom.

As much as I think Jordan is a great presenter. It's not gonna pull me over to capital. Adverts and their dire playlist is the biggest reason. Plus as long as Greg is on Radio 1 he's always going to have the upper hand. There's an old saying, 'you can't beat experience'. Greg these days has it in abundance.

on the grid.

Greg said as a R1 presenter he’s sad that but as a friend he’s excited for Jord

And that's why he's a class act. He handles the sensitive issues perfectly on-air.

It feels like the story is already out there. Obviously there would be little bits that might not be totally accurate but as a broad picture it's already out there.

Apart from breakfast there wasn't really any progression for him there. If they had said no to breakfast, then he would be tempted by a big money offer and a breakfast show. Sounds like there was negotiations but they didn't materialise. They didn't want him on air anymore (which while it may be seen as a bit tight and I also think it's a bit tight) because he was about to take his popularity to the competitor.

More to the point what the hell is this article about?! Who's actually betting on this stuff!

"It seems the negative reaction towards Laing’s arrival didn’t go unnoticed as bookmakers were quick to mark-up how long he would last as the new Radio 1 host.

Laing has been given 4/6 odds of lasting under one year, and 6/5 odds of him lasting over a year - falling very short from North’s previous reputation.

Lee Astley of Lucky Block said: "Our traders have taken on board the negative feeling around Jamie Laing’s appointment as replacement for popular host Jordan North (who has joined Capital FM) and they reckon he will be gone within a year."

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
