It's clear there's a gap in the afternoons for our generation who don't want celebrity hirings. Seems a waste to only use Scott for two hours each day. It feels like the answer is more Scott! Shame he can't return to radio one!

There a reason commercial radio don't want the BBC to launch new stations.  It would allow Radio 2 to split making a older station and develop the current Radio 2 more for our generation. It would make Radio 2 very appealing which is not what they want.  I hope the BBC wins because we need more radio for us.

Why can't Jeremy Vine get tired of doing daily tv and radio?  Although if he left, do you think they would keep it as a predominately news/discussion program?

They have to as part of their license requirements to provide a certain amount of hours of news and current affairs programming, which the lunchtime slot fulfils.

I wonder if eventually Sara and Scott will swap a bit like Greg and Scott did. Would be great to have him back on drivetime. Maybe he could bring back Your Call 😅

Yeah, I remembered having read that before after I posted.  I just can't stand that show lol.  Oddly have quite liked Jeremy when he's popped up on other things so it's not him.  More likely I've just never enjoyed a call in news show with a broad audience.

I feel like it's one of the stumbling blocks to Radio 2 for younger audiences. I don't feel I can switch Scott on until after Vine. I work in news, I don't want to hear more 😂

Plus if you want to listen to a news programme you wouldn’t go to Radio 2.

I don't mind Jeremy Vine nowdays he does have some interesting people on now and again. But I am getting older now.

It's a funny old job with Radio 2 though. They are trying to palm off the old crew, eventually (and I don't mean this in a nasty way) they won't be about to complain. However with the 90s and the 00s they are very reserved on what they play. Remember the 90s and 00s had prodigy, slipknot, limp bizkit etc top of the pile. Those groups still feel more radio 1 even though we are taking many years ago.

There needs to be a bit of bravery and just go full on and stick on papa roach or linkin park. If this new 40s to 80s station happens. Radio 2 will jump the gap.

I think that Prodigy are now quite a 6 Music thing they do play them quite a bit in the rave forever show and some of the rave stuff and gets the odd daytime play.

If the new station after its planning and review stage passes its up and coming stages to get it to air of the oldies station. I think that Radio 2 should have a request show encouraging deep cuts and lesser played tracks on the station ensure the radio system is full of the 80s-00s rock, hip-hop and dance tracks that the station rarely plays giving opportunity to hear rave and dance tracks on the station from that era to grunge or nu-metal stuff.

Yes I enjoy Coxy's All Request Friday but it ends up quite samey at times. Only so many times you can listen to The Proclaimers. Shame they couldn't have got Annie Nightingale to revive her show on Radio 2 sooner.

I feel that given the age group, there are probably requests for Pendulum, MCR, Prodigy, Chase and Status etc. But for the most part radio 2 still want to play it safe and play Torn by Natalie Imbruglia or The Proclaimers. They have been doing this for 30 years now, so they are finding it harder to change than radio 1 are by ditching tunes pre 2016. I did notice Jo Whiley will push the boat out sometimes post 7pm, hearing Wu Tang Clan on Radio 2 was a culture shock the other week.
