Never met him/it... so with that in mind, i'm a fully fledged atheist thanks to crap RE at school that was nothing but bible-bashing.

Watched an interesting program about the 'lost gospels' the other night. Some quite extreme and controversial stuff in there... especially re a certain Ms Mary Magdelene..

I don't believe in God. But I don't believe that there is definitely no god either. So I suppose I'm agnostic. I have explored the possibilities and not found anything that convinces me or helps me to believe anything.

Seriously, no, I don't. I don't believe there's anything: no Gaia, no God, no spirit world - nada. It's all in the human psyche. It's all human creation. Fantasy. Mojo. Piffle. Poppycock. Balderdash!

Actually... I prefer to take the advice of Winston Zeddemore of the Ghostbusters...

"If someone asks you if you are a God, you say YES!!!"

Indeed Religion causes conflict... more so than anything else, even oil.

Beliefs are fine, it's when they get combined into religions that the problems begin.

I think The Bible was a code of laws, designed to make people behave more correctly or however those who wrote it believed people should behave in just the same way as the constitution of a state sets out how a state should run.

I think religion is a dying duck though. Fewer people attend church these days. Some claim to still be religious and have a faith, but I think there is an increasing secularism, primarily amongst the youth, that will take hold of society and flower over the next several decades, creating a less religious, more secular Britain where, perhaps, equality and tolerance instead of God, rules behaviour.

Becasue you are not god, unless you are a Sci Fi god, in which case you could be 1 from another planet, or a Horse God, i am the leader of Mankind

Blimey S, that post was a bit serious for here.

I completely agree with the second part, not so sure about the first though.

As for me, I don't believe in God, but I don't like the thought that there's nothing out there.

I believe that there is something out there and, as the great Gil Grissom once said;

I'm sure they're smart enough to stay the hell away from us!*

*OK, so maybe they weren't his exact words, but it's ten to two in the morning and I'm tired.

Dont believe a word of it, if there really was a god then there would be no war, no diseases and everybody would be happy clappy chappies.

But when people go through illness, or the death of a loved one or something like that and make it through it, don't you think it makes them a stronger person? To truly appreciate happy times, don't you have to had experience of bad times? Maybe that's what God/a god wants?

I kind of agree with Bexy on this one. Personally I'm sort of in the middle when it comes to religion, I wouldn't call myself an atheist but then again I don't see myself as being Christian either.

I find that people who are REAl christains are nice people, but that the ones who keep going on about it all the time are usually the people who want the attention and people to think that they are good because they are christians, i think those people are wrong, there are some dodgy christians,

From wikipedia - "we the cut & paste generation" I voted for floella

"God is dead" is not meant literally, as in "God is now physically dead"; rather, it is Nietzsche's way of saying that the idea of God is no longer capable of acting as a source of any moral code or teleology. Nietzsche recognises the crisis which the death of God represents for existing moral considerations, because "When one gives up the Christian faith, one pulls the right to Christian morality out from under one's feet. This morality is by no means self-evident.... By breaking one main concept out of Christianity, the faith in God, one breaks the whole: nothing necessary remains in one's hands."[1] This is why in "The Madman", the madman addresses not believers, but atheists — the problem is to retain any system of values in the absence of a divine order.

The death of God is a way of saying that humans are no longer able to believe in any such cosmic order since they themselves no longer recognize it. The death of God will lead, Nietzsche says, not only to the rejection of a belief of cosmic or physical order but also to a rejection of absolute values themselves — to the rejection of belief in an objective and universal moral law, binding upon all individuals. In this manner, the loss of an absolute basis for morality leads to nihilism. This nihilism is what Nietzsche worked to find a solution for by re-evaluating the foundations of human values. This meant, to Nietzsche, looking for foundations that went deeper than the Christian values most Christians refuse to look beyond.

    • Richie Anderson in for Rylan tomorrow.
    • Mylo and Rosie said at the end of their show today that they would also be on Early Breakfast on Thursday 24th July (even though the schedule still says Dean)
    • James is in for Dean from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th August. Dean is in for Greg from Monday 11th to Friday 15th August. Jaguar is in for Sarah on Friday 15th August.
    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
