I'm quite lucky because work is only a short 5 minute drive through quiet streets so it doesnt take long to get to my work (when I go) , probably only about 10-15 minutes walking distance.

well I did but then I got dropped off in the morning at work and then I walked home after work , the car park at the back of the building is too bumpy and full of potholes so I didnt want to damage the alloys or anything on the underside of the car

a Bike's probably more useful in London anyway Lucinda, to heck with sitting in traffic jams for hours on end in the city

Absolutely :biggrin: I usually avoid traffic by either getting off and walking to the front of the traffic jam then crossing the road and then getting back on the bike or cycling on the pavement when it has to be done... also cycle lanes and bus lanes which allow cyclists help with avoiding traffic.

In some parts of South London the roads are full of horrible massive potholes, kinda difficult on a bike with no suspension :-?

yeah the parking is open during the working hours but its meant to have been sold off for housing, there is a car park at the front but it involves a huge hill and steps, I dont do Steps!!

So many people drive journeys they could so easily walk just because they can't be bothered.

And the public transport needs more investment, I agree there, but it is often there and people don't bother using it because they would rather drive.

Train from Oxford > London is £40 return

Half an hour's drive to the train station, then 40 minutes on the Underground + DLR to get to Redbus

Costs £30 in fuel (if that) to get there and back, it's quicker, and more convenient.

Why on earth would anybody take public transport?

That's flawed. There are more costs than transport involved in driving. Insurance, taxes, repairs... lots of random costs.

I worked out that it would cost me 3 times as much to drive than to take the train. I spend over £1000 a year on trains, and save about £500 through having a Young Persons Railcard. I used to take the bus from London to Oxford regularly and it was quicker and easier than my dad driving. It all depends on where you live though.

On the train its £2.60 return.
