well everyone has the internet more or less, but you need to have some knowledge with proxy's and ip address' and so on to get a lot of bbc services that won't work abroad. tv catchup (freeview tv online) didn't work in greece until i ran the browser through a british ip address. radio 1 and 2 would be lost via fm, and a lot of freeview services i presume.

sky too is only supposed to be avalible in the british isles. although the astra 2d 28.8e satellite (located above north africa) that carries it broadcasts across europe, some people just have sky cards billed to a british address. that's how you see our tv in spain, france etc.

I do care, but interestingly not a single Scot I know in real life or online is in favour of Scottish independence, apart from one obviously. I know quite a few Scots, and have a huge love of the country having studied in Glasgow for four years, plus my mum's guardian was a Dr McAllister from Edinburgh.

Not that this qualifies me to say what should or shouldn't happen. I'd just like to point out that the concensus of opinion between my friends appears to be that independence would immeasurably weaken Scotland. This bothers me.

Informative article, especially regarding the fact that should Scotland become independent, they'd need to build a firmer allegiance with Europe. Not such a good plan. Much as I originally supported the Euro, I realise I may have been wrong on this one.:

I can completely understand that Scottish people may well feel humiliated by the current Government, so do I! But I didn't vote them in. We all have a vote. I notice Scotland is mainly Labour, there are around four Tory voting areas, a few Lib Dem bits, and only two or three SNP parts. Doesn't this say something?

Interesting map, but views are starting to change. The SNP have now managed to get control of our local council, which will give US more say over what we (in the community) want for a change. About time.

Actually. Had a think about this this afternoon, and had a quick family discussion too. And really, is the currency a central issue. The main thing is getting out from "tory" rule. And using our resources to benefit our own lives. a lot of speculation smacks of scaremongering.

No Viv, I do care from where I come from - Britain, which is why I dont want to see the seperatists rip the place up all because they've got it into their heads for various reasons that this has to happen regardless. I'm in a fortunate position where I can identify myself as one or the other. I refuse to be identified as scottish thats all.

I am almost tempted to ask why you are still in town, then. Or, indeed, in the country?!?

Anyway, thought I would bring the percentages of my own local people around here (from a local forum) to show the interest the people are now taking in this thing. Hopefully Salmond will get a much better strategy together, and clear up some of the questions people have doubts about (which he needs to do).

So:-

47% = wish to be seperate

37% = remain part of the UK

6% = still undecided

Right. Finally some answers from my local forum - Here we go:-

Currency / defence / military / jobs/ savings / NATO / FM Radio

We will continue to use the pound as we have always done, to begin with anyway, but NOBODY knows

what the distant future holds, whether In Independence or still stuck to Westminster.

We will continue to receive ALL the TV & Radio stations that we receive at present, but that could

change at some point in the future, who knows ? It could also change at ANY time under the union ?

One thing is GUARANTEED though, the TV & Radio signals will NOT automatically stop at the border,

on Scottish Independence Day, and await passport clearance. As Morag suggested, It's ALL scaremongering.

As for ANYTHING to do with the military ? Again, NOBODY knows and NOBODY is ever likely to know

ANYTHING other than the bare minimum. It's the very nature of the beast, NO army reveals It's true hand.

But what we can assume is the main options that are being banded around and they are:

1: We could end up as part of a "Nordic" alliance: Perfectly possible AND why not ?

2: We could "stand alone": Again, why not AND perfectly possible. Lots of countries do it ?

3: We could still be a part of NATO ? Yes, very true, but this will come down to "acceptance" from NATO

and whatever government we vote for AFTER Independence. (Which may/may not be the SNP ?).

Scotland currently contributes over £3 BILLION per year, to the Westminster military budget.

It has been very well established that Scotland could have herself a fully kitted-out and effective military

for somewhere in the region of, just under £2 Billion. Not bad, eh. Our own military AND a MASSIVE saving

that will do very nicely spent elsewhere, ie; on jobs, education, tourism, investment, etc, etc, etc.

Listening to "debates" on Radio, especially BBC Radio, is dangerous because the panel is usually loaded

with people of a unionist persuasion AND the questions & audiences are usually loaded in favour of the union.

There is a growing concern recently, with regards to the BBC and their political bias, questions are being asked
