R1 Carnage: Moyles Could Face Axe !!

So... it's not enough for R1 to demote Mills. O no. This morning's 'Daily Mirror' brings new things.

As follows:-

Chris Moyles faces an early exit from Radio 1’s breakfast show after a shortlist to replace him was drawn up.

The controversial DJ’s contract ends in 2014, which would give him a decade on the flagship programme.

But station boss Ben Cooper could now axe him up to a year sooner.

And insiders say there is a three-horse race for the top job between Radio 1 colleagues Fearne Cotton, 30, Nick Grimshaw, 27, and rising star Greg James, 26.

A source said: “The fact plans are being made already when Moyles should have two more years tells you all you need to know.

"There could be a replacement a year earlier than planned.”

And Moyles, 38, could be moved to drivetime for the last year of his deal.

Speculation about Moyles’ future started as Cooper rang the changes in the schedule on Tuesday, promoting rising star Greg James to a top slot.

Just hours later, several Radio 1 sources suggested Greg was not guaranteed Moyles’ slot in the future, but was on a short list.

The source added: “At 26, Greg is seen as the young pretender who could grow into the role and keep it for a long period like Moyles.

“But Fearne is the biggest name and the BBC are keen to give more big jobs to females stars.

“Grimmy is being openly praised by all the execs at the moment. People love his evening show and he is friends with an array of stars from Kate Moss to One Direction.”

Yesterday Moyles was angry with speculation about his future. On his show he insisted he was “not going anywhere”.

There was also a spat between Moyles and journalist Dan Wootton on twitter last night. Please have a look: www.twitter.com/danwootton www.twitter.com/chrisdjmoyles

Viv: If there IS any truth in this, I honestly believe (in the future) we, as listeners, will look back upon this period as among the WORST mistakes Radio 1 ever made.

I have no interest in looking at anything that Wooton t*** says to be honest. Also, the word COULD is used a LOT of times here, not WILL. Very telling.

Some people need to just move on and accept they're now well out of the time when Radio1 would or should appeal to them.

"Fearne is the biggest name" guess this forum is NOT representative of the listeners then, seeing as any mention of Fearne here gets immediate hate, even in UNRELATED stories that are actually about someone else...

What is worth noting is the usual Tabloid BS, quoting a 'Source' that is very likely made up, especially likely in the case of Wooton. They ALWAYS say a source or insider said this or that, then it 9/10 turns out to be completely untrue.

Well, for a change, I think Wootton may have a point. Moyles suits the station just now, cause he can haul in the ratings like nobody's biz, but when the Show stops being so good?!

Yeah but that's not likely to happen within a year or two, if anything, hasn't Moyles kept gaining listeners and been consistently 2nd to Wogan/Evans?

i don't believe that for a second. however if moyles ever did move back to drivetime for the last part of his radio 1 career it might free him up a little, it might be like his old afternoon show. then again would the modern radio 1 let a show like that be aired?

on the grid.

Of the 3 on this supposid short list it without a doubt has to be Greg. Fearne is a kid doing an adults job, and Grimshaw and others like him should simply be taken out of the gene pool.

It wouldn't surprise me though if all of this was just to try and sensationalise a story that obviously will inevitably happen, but may not be for quite a while yet. Nobody thinks that Moyles will be there till the end of time but at the moment the show is good as ever, its still funny, the guys still have a laugh which in turn makes the listener laugh. I'd take these things with a pinch of salt though, we know what the papers are like when it comes to him. Anyone remember a couple of years ago we were being given front page headlines about how he would be axed within months? I think its safe to say that journalist has since been shown to have written a lie there. I'll wait for the BBC themselves to confirm/announce anything where Chris Moyles is concerned.

"Fearne is a kid" She's THIRTY... Fail.

There really is something with you and not getting posts isn't there? Yes we know full well she is an adult, however I was actually referring to her carrying on on the radio like some sort of teenager. She got into presenting as a child and sadly her presenting style hasn't matured with her age as you would think it might.

Well, I wish the BBC jolly good luck with it if true. If age is really that important re a voice on the radio.

The instant rapour Chris has with celebrities is incredible, im sure that channel 4 quiz show of his wouldnt have existed without Chriss mobiles address book.

And its not like he's acting his age on air anyway. And thats a good thing.

Chris has brought a hell of a lot to the breakfast show but if greying hair in pictures is more important, off you go then BBC.

The horror of the three suggestions as a replacement just doesnt bear thinking about.
