sounds like the work of 'big al' (al qaeda), maybe for naming a teddy bear muhammad or drawing him or some bullshit like that. shooting teenagers on a youth camp as well as the bomb in oslo, they have to be connected. they should shoot the bastards who did this, and make an example that al qaeda can't get away with what they like anymore.

apparently the person they have arrested is white, far right ?

the other day it came out that Norway will accept a Palestinian ambassador, people opposed to a recognized Palestinian state ?

Norway also support the Libyan intervention, Lybia ?

or as you say the cartoons, however they are from Denmark not Norway, Al-Qaeda ?

i think the bomb attacks were a distraction somewhat, so the police and security would be focused on oslo and therefore he'd have an easier chance at the attack on the island.

they are saying that he'll be sectioned under the mental health act, but he was still smart enough to build those bombs. what he's done is one of the worst things i have ever heard in my life. there is no room for someone like that in this world, he should be killed.

is a death sentence, really a punishment though ?

the issue is that sentiments & views held by people like Anders Behring Breivik (alleged shooter) are on the increase.

some of the stories, images & videos are truly horrific, i know people shy away from them especially like the video of the shoreline from a boat, but people should not shy away from them, because it's really whats happening.

RIP to all the victims.

yes. his death sets an example to anyone else who's thinking of doing the same. why should the norweigan taxpaers' money go to keeping this cunt alive? i just don't understand the outpour of sympathy towards him, "oh it's a shame, oh he's misunderstood!" no wonder the western world is seen as a pushover.

My 98 year old grandmother is from Norway, and as such I have many family and friends there. This shouldn't make this horrific occurence any closer to my heart than all of the other atrocities that are ocurring around the world, but I'm afraid it has. I suppose it's because I know Norway, and its people. It is such a beautiful (albeit bley cold) place. It is a calm, peaceful land, with people that seriously reflect this. I'm still finding it hard to believe that this could have happened in such a country.

I spoke to a friend there yesterday just to check up, when the death toll was only at around 20. She said the whole nation was shellshocked. I could not believe the news I woke up to this morning to hear of the remainder of the killings. Still need to speak to more people.

Read a blog today which highlighted dc's comments above, re. Oslo bombing being a smokescreen, whilst the poor teenagers on the island were being picked off one by one. This blogger believed, that as all the youngsters on the summer camp were potential leaders of a Norwegian socialist party, no matter how far reaching the result would be, it might just be time to try to waste them all during their teens. Sorry I can't locate blog now.

I certainly don't want to watch any videos of the event!

I'm afraid I don't agree with the death penalty, although that would probably change if I did have a child that was killed. So all is relative. They don't have the death penalty in Norway anyway. This man will, and certainly should spend the rest of his life behind bars. Very sorry to inform you though that Scandinavian prisons are renowned for being the cushiest in Europe. Let's send him to one in the far east or Africa?

Tragic day for Norway. My thoughts are very much with the survivors, the families of the dead and the people of Norway. Sender du elsker. xx

the death penalty should be used for extreme cases, this falls into that category. if norwiegan rules and law are anything like ours, then he'll probably get out a few years down the line.

this guy continues to astonish me. the information coming from the courtroom and pictures of the attack are apsolutley terrible. he says he's prepared to spend the rest of his life in jail, there has to be another way to punish this him. jail just isn't enough for what he's done.

i have heard that the maximum sentence in Norway is twenty years.

what i find strange is that it took the police ages to get to the island, yet there was a news helicopter flying about over it, thats where the image of him on the bank with a gun aimed at somebody in the water.

first of all there is no excuse for what he's done, no matter the race or religion of the people he targeted. but in his twisted manifesto, he seemed to be against muslims. how many of the people that he killed were muslims? it just seems like a poor excuse to me, so he could just go out and shoot people.

It's always the same. Did you know that when the US Airways Flight 1549 was ditched in the Hudson River, the first pictures appeared online before the emergency services even were at the scene? Medias work often faster than police/etc. Don't ask me how they get to know where all this stuff is happening though...

the Discovery Channel have a program about the attacks on Sunday http://www.newsonnews.net/discovery/10728-discovery-channel-to-air-documentary-into-the-norway-massacre.html !

didn't take'em long.....

just over two weeks it's took them then, kind of grim that they must of started production on it more or less the following weekend. i recall national geographic doing something similar with bin laden's death a few months ago, makes a change from them showing programmes about plane crashes all the time.

    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
