the actual solid policies of the parties, by this sort of trash media style personality contest.

What solid policies. Every party is basically corrupt, with MPs simply out of touch with Joe Bloggs off of the street.

And as to X-factor style stuff, well, we live in a world where the Internet has become mega important, and where trashy, materialistic TV-style garbage is what people believe in.

Perhaps they should pass a law banning reality T.V.

Sorry, but these TV debates are a huge crock of shit.

They repeat themselves more than a radio station playlist, every 5 mins they are saying the same thing again, but with the words in a different order.

I shall happily not be voting. Whatever happens, happens - they are all as bad as eachother.

hmmm by not voting you have no voice or cannot complain about anything that the next government does, :( that some people feel like this better to invalidate the voting slip by ticking all the boxes than not vote at all.

the polls seem to suggest that Cam won this debate but i'm not so sure i think Nick did best overall, Gordon was out of his depth i feel again as he has been in all these debates, everyone knows that things like this are not his strong points, i don't doubt that he is a hard working old school politician, i am happy with my current MP (Lib-Dem) & will be voting again for her i think that a big change is needed in the UK politics wise & that this time the Lib-Dems can make a difference & actually change things for once, yes it may be a bit of a gamble but something HAS to change !

Watching this with an eye on the football. I would love an all English final in this cup

Glad I didn't waste my time watching the Fulham match, debate was easily the most exciting as they actually argued. Brown didn't have a clue, the worst was when he went on about the tories cutting child tax credits saying the Tories only wanted to benefit the rich, when they were taking away credits from people earning over £50,000! Thought Cameron was the clear winner, Clegg did ok and Brown was miles behind. I was almost sick when I found out the Fulham score though.

Is John 'right-hook' Prescott a boss on that?

Of all the surveys I saw, the ones that had Cameron at the top all seemed to be from Murdoch-owned (and thus likely to be Tory-supporting, The Scottish Sun being an apparent exception) outlets and sources like Sky News.... Hmmm.

Professional eater of puppy dogs, baby heads and killer of grannies...

Not amused, I'm not entirely sure how it happened but a friend and I were havin a conversation about the election during the week. I said I wasn't fully made up my mind yet but I was pretty certain I would be voting xxxxxx, this then lead me to receive a huge lecture/ear bashing for the next half hour or so which left me with a bit of a headache and a very awkward silence in the car. After that, any available opportunity to have a little dig at me was thrown in, usually along the lines of what I said didnt matter because I vote xxxxx.

I tried to explain I wasnt wantin to discuss politics cos it was very clear we have differnt opinions, but for some reason this didnt sink in and it just continued. argh

Gordon Brown had the honeymoon period in the weeks and months after he first became PM where people were, I guess, happy to see the back of Blair and were quite satisfied with how Brown's government handled the situation of the attempted-terrorist attacks during those first few days. But since then Brown's had a fairly rough ride, being consistantly low in the polls, the public seem to be pretty dissatisfied with his government, and then there were the high-profile members/former members of the Government resigning to undermine Brown's job and trying to launch leadership bids.

So what I find quite hard to understand is that Cameron has so many vocal critics, even from within his own party and other die-hard Conservative supporters. He gives the 'right' answers, says what people want to hear, talks about 'change'. Even with the a majority of the print media (and covertly Sky News) supporting Cameron and the Conservatives, a lot of the public seem to be scepitcal of the apparent media bias and aren't all giving Cameron the easy ride and the landslide victory many assumed he'd get get moreorless without any serious challenge - a bit like Tony Blair after John Major and Obama after Bush.

So basically, in short, I just don't understand why Cameron and the Conservatives aren't getting the easy ride they're 'entitled' to.

For the record: I'm not a Conservative, a Conservative supporter or a Conservative voter. And, probably, never will be.

They say don't talk to your friends about politics and religion.

Generally its not a problem because 99% of the time, friends will realise that not everyone has the same opinions as themselves. This time my friend crossed the line to be honest, I was really pissed off with her cos at no point did I try and convert her or give her a tidal wave of abuse for her belieffs.

I don't claim to know a great deal about politics, but I do know this;

No party represents me or my opinions, I just have to chose the best of a bad lot. I know what leader(s) I don't like, and I know what one(s) I'm not too bothered about. I make my decisions from there, not cos of friends trying to change my mind or posters etc put up at the side or the road, candidates being in the street wanting to meet people etc etc

A few more to add that I think you missed:

The introduction of the minimum wage (despite Conservative opposition). 500,000 less children in poverty. 900,000 less pensioners in poverty. A directly elected Mayor of London and London Assembly. Largest Number of Female MPs. Extention of the rights to maternity leave. Homelessness at it's lowest since the 1980s. Age descrimination legislation.

this is your chance to take part in the Unofficial Mills General Election :)

firstly there are one or two rules:

voting closes at midnight 6th May 2010

every member can vote no matter what age you are, but please if you are NOT old enough to really vote choose who you WOULD really vote for if you could.

if you are old enough then please vote for the SAME party that you will do at the ballot box.

i have included all the main & some smaller parties, not every party can be in the poll due to limitations in the amount of choices, if the party you want to vote for isn't listed then vote for Other you can if you so wish post in the thread the party you have voted for, or if you wish to remain anonymous then PM me & i will just post the name of the party & not reveal your username.

if you want to invalidate your vote then choose None of the Above if do NOT want to vote because you are to lazy to make a decision or that you DO NOT want to use your voice/vote for change & exercise your right to vote then vote Not Voting

if you are unsure who to vote for or what the parties stand for then have a look here >> http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_2010/parties_and_issues/default.stm

i really hope that every member votes in this poll & that every member who are old enough to vote goes out & uses their vote tomorrow.

    • Arielle is in for Greg on Monday 27th May.
    • He’s definitely gotten better and the show has sounded fine this week. I think it been at its best when it’s been Katie and Jamie or Vick and Katie. Vick and Jamie are ok together, but I do think the show sounds better when it’s Vick and Katie and therefore I still don’t really understand the point of the trio.    Jamie is, however, a lot better than Danny Beard!
    • The RAJAR coming on later this year reflecting later summer to autumn will be interesting to how it reflects Matt and Mollie in afternoons to the revised changes on radio 1’s new music slots and the schedule re-shuffling Radio 3 introducing a new slate of programmes. Then, later on this year have speech radio stations having domestic political coverage of the election but also America’s presidential election.
    • I actually caught snippets of today’s show, and I found it much better than the last time I listened. I have made it no secret that I like Jamie on the radio, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Matt & him together last year. People have criticised him for not being relatable, but I have to agree with the comment above that I have always found him a naturally warm person to listen to. Maybe the going home set up was something that needed settling in and things are starting to take shape.  It must have been difficult for him joining an established duo in Vick & Katie to begin with.  Jamie was great on something songs today, fully engaged in the caller and sounded like a real presenter. Maybe he is doing as a lot of us hoped and really learning as he goes, how to do it properly.
    • Agree with this. The anti-Jamie feeling was IMO quite influenced by the negativity around him replacing Jordan, since Jordan was exceptional and also universally loved. When people mention Danny and Jamie in the same sentence about bad hiring decisions I almost choke - Jamie may not be perfect but he's several leagues better than Danny already and has bags of potential. Danny is poor and has shown zero potential...
    • Jamie started 4 March, and the figures only going up to 31 March, so it isn't reliable. But it has shown the numbers have dropped in afternoons compared to last quarter. It looks like it's Capital's gain.
    • Do these audience figures reflect Jordan leaving and Jamie replacing him?
    • I think Jamie is really starting to settle into the role well. He comes across as really warm, and genuinely invested in the listeners when he’s talking to them which is nice. I think he’s building a really great relationship with Vicki and Katie too. His recent great company podcast is great too, where he has quite a deep chat with someone new each week. He’s clearly a very genuine person and I think he has some real potential.
    • Most probably. But do wonder what the future of the relax themed programmes will be when they officially wind down that service.
    • I think it's just to replace Wind Down presents... which was in that timeslot, and I'm guessing Chillout Anthems was just a buffer since it'll still be played at 06:00 on Sundays.
    • With listening on the U.K. for the industry in general it is good overall as most stations reach is on the up and shows radio to be more sustainable and stable outlet than linear televisions channels. This RAJAR I think with the increase shift to DAB+ the BBC will be able to say it has it’s audiences for the proposed new stations it wishes to launch and think the new innovative ideas that it seems Jack himself can take credit for on the new music show think the younger under 30 gen z demographic could increase se in that time-slot.
    • Conor Knight is in for Sam & Danni on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June. It's Radio 1 at Parklife, 13.00-16.00 on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June. Matt & Mollie are in for Greg from Monday 10th to Friday 14th June - it's just Matt on the Thursday. It's Radio 1 at Download, 13.00-16.00 on Friday 14th June.
    • Rajar looking healthy this quarter, with the numbers staying fairly stable.
    • It's made it into the Daily Mail as another reason to bash the station. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13417631/bbc-radio-2-facebook-tiktok-instagram.html
    • I expect that the axing of Chill Out Anthems may be related to the decommissioning and shutfdown of Radio 1 Relax. I assume soon BBC could announce or make official when it’s going to be shutdown
