matt edmondson taking over as a cover presenter must put bosses in a difficult position with what to do with dev. they must have wanted a presenter like greg when they brought dev to radio 1 but haven't quite managed it.

Daft thread to be honest. No Radio 1 haven't got bored of Dev as they have just given him a slot 5 days a week that is famous for nurturing young talent and I imagine Dev will still do cover work just that often as he does get up at 3am five days a week. I also expect Matt will only cover people at the weekends, for the time being at least.

Silly thread really. R1 have been short of cover presenters for a while now. Greg has gone to afternoons so he won't cover anyone else's shows, Chappers has left so he can't do shows with Dave, neither Jo nor Edith seem to be likely to do any weekday cover and Coxy will go on maternity leave later in the year.

I thought Matt was taken on as a showbiz reporter for Fearne?

"He'll be hosting some shows too – deputising for presenters when they are off."

Don't think Devs that bad at all, he's young, has alot to learn. Greg James wasn't that great when he first started, when he first did afternoons I wasn't impressed but the more I listen to him now, the more I like him, he's simply got better. Dev will too. Gregs daytime slot gave him alot

of confidence.

Greggs show is fast becoming one of the best! It's simple yet feels so different to all the others.

I think Dev suited Weekend Breakfast more than filling in on afternoons. Fearne is growing on me but it always feels a bit random and cheap!

I think when you look at all the shows at R1 it shows how important the relationship between producer(s) and presenter is to the quality of the show! Chris, Scott and Gregg are all seem very attached to theirs.

It's undoubtedly a unique strong point of Radio 1.

I dislike dev as a presenter. But i also dislike Fearne Cotton.

Who's worse? There's only one way to find out.

F... oh it's fearne cotton.

Awh I love Fearne lol I think she's awesome. If we're talking about DJs that we dislike, as much as I love her, I don't think Sarah Cox is that great.. sorry LOL

    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
