Hate people that think it is funny to put bricks through windows of buses. happened to us when travelling years ago, and the driver said it costs five hundred pounds PER window on a stagecoach bus to fix. we had to wait on another bus because of fears the glass would blow in on all passengers.

Nearly had shit scared out of me this morning at a North London train station when an automated announcement came over the tannoy "Inspector Sachs, please contact the control room" followed by a siren. Nothing seemed to happen but to my knowledge this is some sort of code for an emergency, either a fire or a bomb, but designed to let staff know without startling the public.

EDIT: Found out what it was, thanks to Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspector_Sands

Inspector Sands is a code phrase used by public transport authorities in the United Kingdom, including Network Rail and London Underground, to alert staff and other agencies, such as the police, to an emergency or potential emergency such as a fire or bomb scare without alerting the public and creating panic.

Very possible I misheard it...

I've had similar, but with Gas Bottles being placed on railway lines. Driver's window got smashed putting the loco out of commission due to safety reasons, and it happened that as the train hit the gas bottle, another train was going by on the next line in the opposite direction and the bottle ricocheted between the two, also breaking passenger windows. The kind of idiots that do this shit need to be tied to railway tracks and run over with 70 tonnes of HST...

Its the exact same with our buses. Any window at all gets broken we park up immediately once we know about it (or as soon as practical/safe) and the bus is then out of service.

Viv I've got no idea how much it is to repace the window on one of ours but I imagine it would probably be a similar cost.

Yep, probs is a similar cost. anyhow, last night i was very tired after my running, so decided to head to bed early. we have new neighbours along our area, who decided to make spectacular amounts of noise. so, i got out of bed, opened the door, and decided i would make a speech. lol. anyhow, another neighbour (built like a tank), decided he would make a MUCH bigger speech, to the point where this gang literally ran for their lives. unfortunately, couple of them decided to return during the nite, and make more noise. so now today, i feel like shit. so, if it starts back up again tonight, i am gonna ring the police.

jez moxey, steve morgan and mick mccarthy are nothing but twats. moxey is great at lining his own pockets, morgan is too interested in building a new stand for nobody to sit in, and mccarthy has the management skills of steve mcclarren. all three of them have shown apsolutley no ambition over the transfer window. and seem happy to see wolves drop to the championship.

on the grid.

Had a dream I was on a farm with jeremy clarkson, and he let me have a bath @ bottom of the field?!?

Pretty weird dream, my only weird dream lately was that I was at the parents in the garden but I was my real age in the dream and the garden was how it looked when I was a child. Then the police showed up in cars and vans, swarmed the street and driveway then bundled somebody in the back of a van. This all got to my dad who was a combination of in tears and furious about something and I had to reason with the police to let me take him into the house and calm him down.

Absolutely no idea what it was about, sometimes my dreams can be affected by whats on the radio when I'm dozing but there was nothing at all that could have influenced my dream. I should point out that their street is largely very quiet (apart from when I show up in the car ;)) and dad is a very quiet man who has no police issues whatsoever lol

I know what you mean about things on the radio .. Tv affecting dreams. the clarkson dream took place in the area i really want to move to, on the day i was about to move somewhere else..... odd. anyhow, cousin and i have turned down the new house. i have NEVER seen a garden like it. we would need professional help to sort it all out. i hated the place before even setting foot inside. so, i have insisted we take the entire TOWN off our list of ideas. we will see what happens next. o, and i got a remarkable reading from a psychic last night. cousin still can't believe some of my ideas, but i have managed to convince her intuition is the best way forward.

Yeh, this is true. But there is work and there's WORK. That garden would have needed a professional landscape gardener, and that would have blooming cost us !! :hahaha:

The house itself was relatively low maintenance, although I didn't like the bathroom because it had no window. I am wondering if that is even legal.

I do that from my studio kitchen/living room windows... with a nice set of infra-red night-vision binoculars... now just to figure out how to use a camera to get pics from that, especially of the nice brunette that lives on 4th floor of a building nearby whose window I can see right down into when she strips and watches TV and stuff naked... *

I couldn't handle just looking at a wall. I like to open windows, and spy on neighbours.

I dunno about you Viv, but when I go into the bathroom its because I usually need to do some toilet or washing based task, I don't go in there just to look out the window ;)

The only real benefits to having the bathroom window in my flat is that it lets some light in the downstairs part as its a bit dark even during the day and we can open the window to get some of the steam out when a shower has happened.

I know its unlikely to get back to him through this but I'm still a bit wary about writing it. However, my flatmate's lack of urgency and paying attention to things is getting to me a bit.

I was curious as to why we hadn't heard anything about the council tax a few weeks in and he said that the letting agency would get in touch with the council telling them about us living here so I took his word as he's rented placed before. Only when I looked through the T&Cs did I discover that it was up to us to tell them, not the agency.

We get letters confirming that the standing orders for the rent took effect as of February, I read the letter properly and it said we also had to go and pay for January either card or cash. I mentioned the letter to him and he said that wasn't what was said so I told him to check again, then he realised he hadn't read it properly and started moaning about why they hadn't done it sooner or told us that this would be happening.

Tax bill for the first quarter comes through, says on it that it has to be paid on or by February 8th but he wanted to phone up and see if we could get some sort of payment plan so we paid every month rather than in 1 go every 3 months. He phone them, and when I said today that I'd just pay it online and get the money off him he said that the date on it is just an indication and that we have a month or so to pay it after that.

Both of us are in full time work so money isn't a problem for us as the rent and tax are fairly cheap so I don't understand why hes so carefree about it all. Stuff has to be paid for so when the bill arrives it should just be dealt with at the time.

What he meant was that the agency would tell the council we were now in that flat, as thats what happened with him in the past. It just annoyed me that he assumed that it would be the same this time round even though it was a different place and a different agency.

    • Probably got fed up of the usual moaning bastards all over it, asking for Ken Bruce and Jimmy Young back on air.
    • Think it may have been better to include Radio 1 in this and 1 xtra ultimately focus on boosting a BBC Sounds social media to bring the multi-generational content marketed to a broader audience through one singular channel and having a separate social brand skewed to younger audiences maybe they should consider just having a @BBC @BBCSounds  @BBCSport @BBCNews @BBCFresh (youth brand) social media acounts national.
    • Although a lot of their target audience do seem to be moving across to Instagram now.
    • I suppose it's because not a lot of people use Twitter (or X) so maybe it's not worth their time, surprised about Facebook though.
    • Surprised to learn Radio 2 and 6 Music are moving away from X and Facebook, I would have thought there's more appeal in Radio 1 doing that instead. Their target audiences still use Facebook, and it's still a key way to reach a good mix of audiences. Agree about X though, don't see any need for it. https://radiotoday.co.uk/2024/05/bbc-radio-2-and-6-music-quit-facebook-and-x-publishing/
    • Just wondering…has any DJ got the answer wrong yet? I’ve not heard one and they are pretty tough questions! 😆
    • On the weekends theme @Bluestraw said this in the chatbox but I was listening live to James cusack's show yesterday and agree it would be a travesty if he doesn't feature in the weekend plans. Both the greg james fb page and users on digital spy are saying similar. Imagine that, being both part of the LGBTQ+ community but able to appreciate good presenters in 2024.
    • Tara Kumar is in for Sian on Tuesday 4th June.
    • I think at least part of the problem is that a lot of Danny's act is based around Drag humour which (a) isn't for everybody (b) has to be so tamed down for daytime radio, it just becomes silly and (c) it is humour generally consumed on a night out with lots of alcohol taken!
    • Oh boy, if that's the case above then what are they trying to do at r1? If Danny was put into weekend afternoons that's one hell of a faux par and a big nail in the coffin. While ok, Nat and Vicky aren't about to blow the doors off and are only there as the fallout of d&v, but to then follow that up with Danny for 3 days a week. Come on. To go from a place where we had Katie followed by M&M to that. What happened to the prestigiousness of r1? Do they need reminding they've just lost Jordan? It's getting embarrassing. Like I said before, when I had people with 0 interest in radio whatsoever and it was in the background telling me to turn it off, you know it's bad. I saw a random friend from years ago even posting on fb with how has someone like Danny ended up on r1. Everywhere you turn its negative. Doesn't that multiply across the uk in what the r1 audience actually think of this presenter? I'm in the LGBTQ+ community and also r1 target audience but I don't feel I want to listen to this presenter because of that fact. Has some policy actually overtaken the true risk of driving audiences away? The fact is just how @coffeeandgin said, Danny has had chance since March with 2 shows a week and is still not up to the job. The odd podcast yes but certainly not to replace m&m! I've skipped through 10 minutes of this week to make sure I wasn't basing opinions on how it was before and yes it is the same level. When you had presenters like Scott who could keep it fresh despite how many years it had been, but then Danny sounds so out of date already, saying you could tune over to Rylan on r2... but then with a topic of "I want to know what have you missed out on?" I'm sorry?! What kind of local radio is that... it's meant to be radio 1 ffs. Terrible talking points, cringe, unfunny, and so bad on the radio it actually makes it jarring and makes people switch over.
    • I don’t think it will be September it will be a very messy schedule if that’s the case
    • As a member of the LGBTQ+ community my position is exactly yours on female representation.  Yes I want representation but only on merit.   Even if Radio 1 would like more representation from this sector, there are stacks of better options than Danny Beard.
    • I hope you're right! I remember some years ago hearing that the biggest show at a weekend was mid-mornings, but not sure if that's changed with the changing pattern of radio listening in general. Given the best show at the weekend (by a distance) is M&M, would make sense that's now the biggest slot.
    • Someone on here said recently weekend afternoons have a big audience. I think you'd want some of your biggest talent here. Which is why there was talk of a reshuffle. I couldn't personally see Danny in this slot if they decided to keep him.
    • I understand that representation is important. And I can't speak for the LGBTQ+ community. But, as a woman in my mid 30s, I have seen a massive shift towards 'having more women' in every industry/organisation in my lifetime. I have always felt that it should be on merit and capability to carry out a role effectively, rather than just filling a role as a specific gender. Women can be fantastic at everything, but on a personal level I would not want to be hired, for example, as a firefighter  just because I was the only female candidate. I am 5 foot nothing and could not carry you out of a burning building.
