James is definitely the Jordan of a few years back. A nice surprise to hear him out of the blue on Friday, we were on call and my work mates who have zero interest in radio said he's really good.

The thing he did with Dean on the phone was very Scott-esque and if its true that he thought of it that morning after getting the call up, thats a very creative presenter. The whole show was an entertaining listen and to say it was last minute, you have to wonder how good he'd end up being with a regular show.

I know others have said this in chat and other topics, I'd be very surprised if they didn't give him his own show next year, it's long overdue.

The other one with big potential is Emil.   He is doing quite well at Absolute though so I wonder if he'd a choice between a daytime slot there or Radio 1 which he would choose.

When I heard Emil before on Radio 1, while good he did seem to do an older targeted show with the topics and general chat that made me think was he much more suited to Absolute and their audience.

James does more R1 target audience material and then they have tended to put him on more recently. Gives off the Jordan vibes a lot. I'm still not sure we've heard the last of the Mollie and James idea they had a few weeks back.

    • I think Ellie has definitely proven to be been a great fit.  The story of her finding a flat and Roger the cat was a real ice breaker for the feel of the show as a whole I think.  Add to that Scott giving Ellie his ticket to the Brits and the stories that came from it, I really think she adds value. Not only is the rapport between her and Scott already brilliant, but she also comes across as a funny, down to earth presenter in her own right.  I think she's fab and will only continue to get better as the show progresses. I would initially have agreed with the thought that she could be a co-presenter, and I suppose her prominence in the show is such that she could be seen as that, seemlessly.  However, for me the show is a bit too guest-heavy for a co-presenter.  That's probably just the nature of having such a high-profile show, I think it might feel like too many voices to try to get a fairly short (and sincere) interview in with a huge star. Back in the days of R1 when they could play fun games with the guests then yes, but I get the impression that Scott needs to go for serious and genuine with most of the ones he has had so far. I mostly prefer the bits of radio without guests - that goes for all radio shows, not just Scott's.  The 6.30-8am where it's just Scott, Ellie, and Tina, are my favourite bits of the show for sure.  Which is a long winded way of me saying that Ellie was a great choice 😄
    • @Opalmoon I couldn't agree with you more. Scott and Chris made genuine magic happen on the radio and I'm starting to think that nothing will ever equal that era.  I often listen back to the old podcasts, and I think you've hit the nail on the head when you say they were effortlessly funny together.  They could make the most simple of things laugh-out-loud funny, and it must have been because they were real friends who just used to make each other laugh, which in turn made brilliant radio.   They have both gone on to do such big things apart, probably more than if they had carried on together at Radio 1, and I'm really pleased for them both.  I don't think you're stuck in the mud (if you are then I am too) - a Scott and Chris podcast would be a dream come true. I'm not sure it could even be a thing while they are both working at different stations, but I hope they can make it work one day.  With Beccy producing, that would be the icing on the cake!   I would love for Scott to be a guest on Chris & Tom Kerridge's podcast, if nothing else.   Who knows, maybe one day Chris will find himself back at the BBC on 5Live and we'd have more chance of having them back working together then.
