I got an email from Stereophonics that says "Just to let you know that Stereophonics will be taking over BBC Radio 1 on Monday 7th May between 1pm-2pm..."

So I'm guessing as part of the Big Weekend takeover, different artists who are playing at the Big Weekend will be have their own 'slot'? I was wondering what they'd be doing for 6 hours!

If you're wondering what that fat show that is taking up Monday's output is all about, it's the Big Weekend artists taking control of Radio 1 for the day. No presenter or co-host. Just the artist.

1000-1200 Kaiser Chiefs

1200-1300 Mika

1300-1400 Stereophonics

1400-1500 Beth from The Gossip

1500-1600 Natasha Bedingfield

The Kaiser Chiefs have been quite good so far, turned it on just for background noise, but the first thing I heard was "let's close our ears, we're playing Natasha Bedingfield now".

I was concerned when he started the show with the Scissor Sisters, and kids started cheering.

If The Archers went gay, and appealed to under 25s, this would be the result of it. Mika on Radio 1.

Didn't bother waking up for F & R. Thought the Kaisers were really amusing. Ricky has the Noel G acid sense of humour.

Mika was good, toned down weird accent a bit.

Happy about Coxie for rest of week. Missed her at the weekend. Fearne is no replacement, sorry. She has a face, voice and personality for telly.

Stereophonics doing v well so far. Marvin Gaye! Yes!

No love for the Big Weekend Takeover from The Guardian today -

http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv_and_radio/story/0,,2074313,00.html

The Kaiser Chiefs were slated as "shambolic, complete with errors" and Mika took "the notion of self-promotion rather too far" with his "annoying entourage".

They don't mention any of the other artists, one would presume they switched off. To be fair, so did I.

i had the station on and off yesterday, and everytime we tuned in all i heard was one big weekend. and fearne and whoever were on about burnt toast in the morning.

we switched to radio 2 but that was off it's normal schedule so it was a bit crap, so we had an old judge jules tape on recorded in 2005. worked.

on the grid.

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
