What can I say? I've listened to Scott since he was on very early in the morning, right through Chappers, Laura, the one who doesn't speak, Flirt Divert, what are those old ladies on about, whoooooo? (pinched off Mark and Lard!!), R Kelly's trapped in the closet and many many more. Chris, you've made a massive contribution to the show, great chemistry with Scott - the two of you are so funny. I'm also pleased that Scott came open about his sexuality. Going to miss you big time. Good luck with your future endeavours.

Lots of love

Hi Scott & Chris

I've been a listener from pretty much day one so very sad that the show is coming to an end.

Inevitable of course and time for me (now I'm 54!) to move with Scott to Radio 2 for the lols (6 music for the tunes of course...)

Love you bye

I wasn't a radio listener until I stumbled across Innuendo Bingo at uni, since then I've been glued to Radio 1 for 7 years. You two got me through my masters degree, 2 years of post-uni unemployment and finally lockdown. Not only that, but there's so many great presenters and fantastic music I've been introduced to because of that moment. So many of them have moved on in the past couple of years, but those memories are priceless.

Thanks for everything Scott and Chris, love you bye,

Alex

The cut-off for the cards is now here, but we'll be making this thread public later this week, and will make sure Scott and Chris see all the messages! We filled the two insides of the card, the back, and an insert, so thanks everyone :)

Most certainly welcome! I’m sure they will be pleased to see what kind act of respect you done for them and how thoughout Scott Mills and Chris Starks career you always been supportive of them!

Dear Scott and Chris.

Thank you so much for the 25 years of entertainment! You formed such a huge part of my life for so long and I'm grateful for every minute you made me laugh and cry. You will be sadly missed.

Good luck in your new ventures!

Love you bye!

So I rushed my comments in the card and I was also out of space! Stick with me here...

I just wanted to say to Scott, thank you for an amazing two decades with Radio 1. I consider myself an OG listener having got into Radio 1 in the 2000s, and like Chris, I started fully engrossed with Moyles and soon saw who the real star of the station was! 'Scott entertains the nation' has been the soundtrack to my life from finishing school to college and university to my many jobs including finally ending up at the BBC.

Unoffiical Mills was launched in 2004 when you'd just started afternoons, and I'll be honest I didn't think anyone would really visit! Little did I know within a month we'd have forums and people actively texting in for mentions and the site crashing as soon as it happened! But I'm very glad they did - so much material out there that people say are their favourite bits of the show could have just been lost. We launched before social media was a thing, I think you had a MySpace profile (whooo?) but that was it. If you wanted to really engage with the show this was the place to come. Times have changed and there are other ways to give feedback now - but I love that the diehards still come here to talk and gossip.

I was starstruck the first time we met for the first time at a gig - it was an 18+ event and I managed to get in with my friend at 16. The next day Jo Whiley spent the morning ripping you about your tan levels, the power of UM! And then there's the musical - the best experience getting to meet people from UM and getting front-row seats! I can't believe one year you cut my hair for TV too! I love that a new generation of die-hard geeks (as Chappers called us) continues to appear, and that's testament to you at Radio 1 that you continue to have this following. That even with work commitments and less spare time, this website continues to exist, because you have all of these wonderful people listening who see you as their friend and not just a DJ.

We'll try our best to keep things going and wherever there's a gap in what the BBC does when you're at Radio 2, we'll try to keep filling it (that's not one).

As for Chris - we first met in a pub after work experience at Radio 1 in 2006. I knew little about you, and I thought you being a 'lad' would mean conversations would be lost on me. But listening to you and Scott talk about ridiculous stories for only just a brief time proved to me there was something there. So when you started appearing on the show I knew you had a future there! Thank god somebody listened.

I am gutted you're no longer going to be at the BBC, but like your first time on the show, we can see you've a bright future (even if it's less orange). Scott used to joke it was just his name above that door, but rightly you have earned your name above one too! I'll definetly be checking out what you do next - and we all have our fingers crossed the hiatus isn't for too long!

Finally, the lesser known people behind The Scott Mills Show on Radio 1, thank you for all you've done. It might be the end of Scott and Chris on Radio 1, but it's also the end of the great work so much of the production team have done - from The One That Doesn't Speak through to Amy.

A big thank you to everyone involved!

Sending a sad farewell to you Scott on Radio 1. I've caught a few moments of the final week. How wonderful it was to hear Chappers yesterday. It really brought back memories of the days when Timsk and I lived on UM. So I want to thank you Scott for being your lovely self and UM and all its regulars for bringing us together - still together after 15 years! I notice not much is being said on air about the mass exodus of all your fans who plan to follow you to Radio 2, but I'm definitely one of these. I'm really looking forward to your new show - and finally accepting my age demographic! All the very best.

Scott and Chris

I’m absolutely devastated that we’re going to be far more than a pig apart every afternoon now. It takes a real talent for people to want to tune in (like turning the dials on a radio - whoooo) and just listen to your voices for hours on end each end and you two are true radio GOATs.

I wish I could remember when I first started listening to you, but me and my mates have numerous WhatsApp groups dedicated to you both and you’re such massive parts of our lives and have been for years, it almost feels like you’re both dying (doing my best Scott Mills dramatic thing).

The best thing about WFH was being able to listen to you both every day. It was rrrrubbish on the weeks when you weren’t on, but more than made up for it when you were back. And it was lockdown that introduced me to tap end - Chris you are a genius.

I can’t believe I'm getting teary writing this. Is it selfish if I wish you both fail spectacularly and get invited back to Radio 1?

Thank you for being brilliant.

Scott & Chris,

Let me first say I'm ALREADY RUINED by the intro - I was sat here working in tears. You guys have meant so much to all of us over the past twenty four years, and Radio 1 will never be the same again.

lyb

The guy who introduced your show with "one of my best friend's dads is the third best pantomime dame in the UK"/The guy who told you that story about the joke I told on the Chase when you covered for Radio 2 a few months back where you said "WE ABSOLUTELY CANNOT AIR THIS"

Hey Scott and Chris, and the whole team who made this possible...

I just can't think to myself that this show is officially over; I can't believe it is. You guys got me through the amazing times, all the highs and lows, you always make my day. During the pandemic, I've been struggling a lot of depression and anxiety. And during mid-2021 I started listening to Radio 1 on a daily basis, and then, you guys.

After 12 months, I cannot believe everything changed a lot and you absolutely helped me go through dark times. Without you guys, everything would be a completely different story. So to the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.

And after listening to the last show yesterday, i thought to myself... Radio 1 will never be the same without Scott and Chris. The whole of the UK, and listeners worldwide will miss all the fun times, all the fun games, and all the surprises you've brought, we cannot thank you so much for the last 24 years of service. This has been an amazing, and journey to be part of.

Scott, good luck on your big move to Radio 2 in a few weeks; Chris, massive good luck heading to Capital and co-hosting the breakfast show, you will absolutely nail it; and to all of the team who made this show possible, a one big massive thank you. Massive respect to you guys. You guys are the best team in the entire radio industry that everyone has ever seen.

In the meantime, Love you bye. ❤️

A big thank you to everyone who signed the cards. We got a big cheer when Aled handed them over, Scott quipped they couldn't have done the 'best of' stuff without the site!

    • Richie Anderson in for Rylan tomorrow.
    • Mylo and Rosie said at the end of their show today that they would also be on Early Breakfast on Thursday 24th July (even though the schedule still says Dean)
    • James is in for Dean from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th August. Dean is in for Greg from Monday 11th to Friday 15th August. Jaguar is in for Sarah on Friday 15th August.
    • Tara Kumar is in for Alyx on Sunday 13th July.
    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
