Old Music

I love classic music. I'm finding myself spending more time listening to Radio 2 now.

My favourite classic album of all time is Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. It was released in 1973, but lyrically it's as fitting and apt today as it was 33 years ago...

More modern classics for me are The Holy Bible by the Manic Street Preachers, which is still rather hard to listen to at times due to the potency and profundity of the lyrics. It's not lightweight stuff.

I keep discovering old artists and bands though. Leonard Cohen is becoming a favourite at the moment after recently discovering his music. 'Suzanne' is a great song, especially the lyric about 'touching his perfect body with your mind' ;)

I do like Leonard Cohen. I also like Jeff Buckley and would love to have known what quality of he would music he'd be making now, as in my opinion, Grace cant be beaten. Its a superb album. On the same note i wonder what John Lennon would be writing about these days and what his influences would be.

I really should listen to that Pink Floyd album. I'm suprised that 22 years into my life and i havent yet, but so many people have told me to

take control

John Lennon would be 66 now. I just read an article today about the man who killed him, he's been denied parole for another two years due to the 'bizarre nature' of his crime. I think John Lennon would've carried on writing more political songs and slagging off McCartney though

It's difficult to predict what would've happened if he hadn't been killed, but it would be nice to think The Beatles would've reunited in the 1980s and released a new, and properly final, album. That said, however, they were still in some legal disputes with each other during the 1980s, so I don't know.

And as every fan of this site will tell you, the guy who killed John Lennon was called?......

Yeah thats just the three used in CSI coz the creators are big fans... though on my DVD of CSI Vegas season 1 it had different music... guess they didn't get the licence in time or something coz The Who and Pete Townshend are even in the credits.

Listen to Rapture by Blondie or Hangin on the Telephone, great songs.

Can anyone name a good 70's glam rock band...name one, anyone, I dare you.

I mean a know all music taste is subjective and that but, they were all crap, just look at the Darkness.

    • I guess we'll have to wait and see when the new schedule kicks in, although I could see Scott staying where he is.  Assuming that's the case and there are no other moves, there would be several available studios for Matt & Mollie - 82C or 82E of the 'old' studios, and 82M or 82N of the new ones.
    • The BBC commissioning brief mentions it is a 'mid morning show' for Radio 1 Dance https://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/radio/documents/comm_brief_r1_dance_morning_show.pdf
    • Nothing to apologise about, I was just intrigued on how DS and UM react
    • I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!
    • That’s two names who probably won’t be doing that slot permanently then.
    • Moyles spent most of the 52hr sgow calling him that lol
    • I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter
    • I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?
    • Maia Beth is doing Friday Early Breakfast on 7th & 14th June.
    • Joel Mitchell is in for Nat on Sunday 9th June.
    • Ore Olukoga is on 13.00-16.00 on Friday 31st May and Friday 7th June.  Nikita Kanda is doing Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June.
    • Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.
    • Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
    • James Cusack is in for Jack on Friday 14th June, doing the chart while Jack is at Download.
