Jameela Jamil's Final Chart Show

Very low key exit, think she was pushed. I reckon she'll see out her contact sitting in for people, then they won't renew it and that'll be the end of her on Radio 1.

Agreed.

...though I did just listen back and she said something along the lines of a new show announcement and that she couldn't speak about then, it was all to be revealed. God I hope its not on Radio 1.

Well, it's not gonna be on Radio 2 is it?! She's gonna be working on Radio 1 still, and if she's got a new show then I have no idea where - they changed the schedule in September, and now they are making more changes at the start of February?

Am I the only one who thinks that Radio 1 are all over the place at the moment? With all the schedule changes etc... Also with the Station Sound front, I know this is more geek related but the way they implemented the new Station Sound back in September up till now personally i think is appalling. And what is is with Grimmy revealing the Cover track that artists are doing in The Live Lounge recently? That's not right surely?

I hate that! It's something they started doing for EMMM. I much preferred it when the cover was a surprise, I hope eventually an artist refuses to reveal it to him.

Agree.

She is sounding good.

I didn't listen, has she finally got the hang of saying Radio 1 instead of 1Xtra, and 81199 instead of 88111? (I heard Dev make that mistake the other day, and he hasn't been on 1Xtra for 5 1/2 years!)

Also, The Chart seems to have changed slightly:

At the start of the show they know just play last week's top 3 instead of the Chart Update top 3 for some reason.

The 'chartbreaker' has gone

The Emtertainment News top 5 section has gone, and frankly, for the better.

And I got a shoutout (although that has nothing to do with this post)

She did a lot more shoutouts and her links were personal to her rather than generic and samey. My hat goes off to her; the chart is a tricky job to master and she didn't join the BBC too long ago.

RE overall sound of Radio 1, I think Jameela should have left and been replaced back in September's changes. The Scottish voiceovers aren't as good as the 2009 + station sound.

They're not all Scottish! Agree that Jameela should have left in september, however she did not have her cancer scare until October, and that's why she decided to leave.

They are all pretty crap though. Fair enough, but... I dunno, it seems a bit blurgh. They should change the schedule in time for 2015, rather than September IMO, but that's not too important. I agree with Greg that the jingles are too "serious", not fun enough like Moyles'.

    • I'm guessing there is also a stack of weekend events like Glastonbury
    • I think more likely it'll just be a temp presenter for weekends 1-4 to give Matt & Mollie time off, plus time to plan and pilot the new show.
    • Yeah I don’t think they’ll be anything that drastic - maybe a week or 2 of cover on early breakfast etc, but maybe just having that weekend afternoon slot covered over the summer means they can put someone on from September who maybe isn’t available until then?
    • But they said the main changes would happen in July.
    • But they said the main changes would happen in July.
    • I wouldn't be surprised if they do this around June time: 05.00 Ore Olukoga 07.00 Greg James 10.30 RMC 14.00 VKJ  That'll probably happen (for my guess) from the 17th June. And for weekends: 07:00 Sam & Danni 11:00 Gregor Davidson 15:00 Charlie Hedges Maybe Fridays aswell: 07:00 Greg James 11:00 Gregor Davidson 14:30 Jack Saunders
    • The Summer on Radio 1 thing makes me wonder whether they might be doing something similar to last year again where they have a temporary schedule over the summer before introducing changes in September - maybe the new host won’t start until after the summer?
    • There was talk on my Big Weekend group from the council about them waiting for Ticketmaster to send an email out. They said they've been waiting a week. Maybe they're waiting for train strike confirmation first.
    • It’s on Saturday and Friday that week too. I guess this would make sense, as it gives them roughly 6 weeks off weekends until they start the new show?
    • Yeah he's on more than usual including this Sunday and then 3 more shows in May according to the above. Makes me think it's James for the weekend shows also
    • For some reason there is 'Summer on Radio 1' listed on Sunday 2nd June, could this be replacing M&M until July?
    • They seem to be using James more for cover now makes me think it will be him getting weekends eitjer breakfast or 1 till 4
    • Yep am very much Capital Breakfast now. Jordan, Chris and Sian are a great trio and it's got that feel of the old shows Jordan and Chris used to do on Radio 1. It doesn't take itself too seriously but is packed full of content and slick. With Greg he's great but 6 years in you've probably heard it all before plus frankly I can sit through the Capital Playlist a lot more easily than the Radio 1 playlist (where some of the inclusions and omissions can be quite baffling at times). Plus after things like the Oscars or Met Gala or if there's a particularly big TV show or film or popstar then Greg won't half wang on about it at times. I guess it's partly to be expected with it being a Breakfast show on a young station but it can feel very London bubble and get tired.
    • Ore Olukoga is in for Arielle on Tuesday 14th May. James Cusack is in for Danny Beard on Saturday 1st June. James Cusack is in for Nat on Sunday 2nd June.
    • I honestly never thought in a million years I’d move from Radio 1 to be a regular Capital breakfast show listener. But it’s got pretty much everything I want - 3 really genuine, entertaining mates having a laugh, playing silly games and it all sounds great. I became a big fan of Chris from his days with Scott, became a Jordan fan on Going Home, and Sian Welby is newer to me but is loads of fun too.  It’s great and I’ve shocked myself by transferring my listening at breakfast. For me Greg’s show now feels very tired and it’s time for something new. But with Jordan gone that’s unlikely to happen anytime soon. Greg’s had a great run and I’m a fan - but there’s no new ideas now. I still listen to Radio 1 at other times - but this show feels like very serious competition for Greg.
