'John Peel's record collection has already been digitised, and now, hundreds of his live BBC 1 shows have been, as well. SoundCloud user +dB has uploaded 458 radio episodes from the late DJ, comprising more than 900 hours of music. The episodes date from 1967, when Peel was at Radio London, to 2004, when he completed his final shows for the BBC.'

You ARE kidding? john peel was a brilliant presenter who died of a heart attack around 2004?! seriously....... that post is an insult to his memory.

Sorry then. You should see my nickname, I am not living in the UK, so I have no idea what was heppening 8 years ago.

i've heard of this guy, basically he runs a site called 'mixesdb':-

http://www.mixesdb.com/w/Main_Page

not only are the peel shows on there, i've gotten some judge jules shows from there too. and there's a massive backlog of the essential mix going back to 1993 unless they have been taken down again.

on the grid.

I know he was incredibly influential but to be honest I'm not sure many people would know of him outside the UK. Heck even the younger generation (i.e. most of Radio 1's audience now) have probably never heard of him. Of course this is terrible but this will happen to everything at some point. For example during the Olympics ceremonies people were tweeting saying they had no idea who Paul McCartney was.

    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
    • I’m pleased for Mylo and Rosie, they were highly thought of in our local area and definitely worthy of that slot
    • I’m thinking the same redding and Leeds etc
    • -Considering how little Jamie has appeared since Vick went off on maternity, it probably would've been more sensible to have Sam & Danni taking over from that point and have him return with Katie. - Mylo and Rosie are apparently very good and one of the more popular local presenters who lost their slot when Hits went fully national. I gather they are very popular in Yorkshire. I can see them definitely see them popping up again beyond this stint. -Life Hacks cover is yet another good opportunity for some new voices (I know Yinka has popped up in the past). I have enjoyed Pete Allison covering though. I'm assuming most of August's Friday to Sunday 1-4pm will be made up of festival coverage.
    • - Jamie Laing will take a break from Going Home from 28th July. Sam and Danni will cover. - Greg James will host his show until 11am from 21st July (Monday to Thursday only). - Mylo and Rosie, who previously hosted Hits Radio Breakfast in West Yorkshire, will host Friday EB in July. - Charley Marlowe of TikTok fame will host Friday EB in August. - Tskenya Frazer will host Life Hacks with Lauren Layfield in July, whilst Yinka Bikinni will host with Lauren in August. - Jamie Laing and Katie Thistleton will return to Going Home in September.
