Vernon Kay is hitting Hollywood – after being signed up to host the US version of Dancing on Ice.

The 36-year-old TV star has been confirmed to present the primetime celebrity talent show, Skating With The Stars.

This will be the former model's second prime time TV show for the American channel ABC over the coming season.

Vernon has just filmed his first game show, Million Dollar Mind Game, for the mainstream network which will launch soon, while Skating with the Stars will debut on November 22.

Olympic ice dancer Tanith Belbin will take on commentator duties alongside the Radio 1 DJ, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly.

And a TV source told the Mail that Vernon’s show will get a massive promotion during the finale of Dancing With The Stars – the US version of Strictly Come Dancing – on Monday where it will cut live to Vernon in the Skating With The Stars studio.

The source said: ‘This is a huge boost for Vernon – it’s a really big deal. He is thrilled.’

Vernon currently presents the Saturday night game show All Star Family Fortunes on ITV and also The Whole 19 Yards with Caroline Flack.

It is rare for a British presenter to have two prime time formats on an American network at one time - so this is a massive career step for the Bolton-born presenter.

He will be following in the footsteps of fellow TV personality Cat Deeley - who made the move to Hollywood in 2006 to present So You Think You Can Dance.

FOX tried this show a couple years back, calling it "Skating With Celebrities". It failed after a 2-month run. Let's see if this ABC version fares any better.

It should also be noted Vernon has presented here before when he hosted "Hit Me Baby One More Time" for a summer run on NBC back in 2005.

What's up with the US obsession with British presenters? It's not even as if they take the good ones. Piers Morgan..?

Maybe the fascination with British accent and culture. They're the same with nannies. My mate was a nanny in the U.S. and they think a British nanny is something to behold and tell all their posh friends about!! :hahaha:

Not everyone gets on in America, but Kay definitely has the teeth and the positive American type attitude to do it!!

I wouldn't call it an obsession. Overall, there are very few UK presenters with a wide presence here in America (don't forget, we've got, on average, over 500 cable channels available now), and Piers Morgan's a real anomoly on top of it all.

It's possible American networks pull presenters from the UK because over here you don't find many that are all that well suited to general hosting duties.

When I was there, the hotel staff all loved my 'british accent'...
