Can somebody please give me an ultra-quick ultra-short explaination on what The Conservatives, Labour and The Liberal Democrats all stand for?? I'm writing a speech for it for our class assembly on Tuesday, need it in by tomorrow and after last term I'm trying to be extra good and took on writing this thing. Can't get in trouble again! Please help!

Those are their policies for this election.

In historical terms, Labour hold socialist values, the Lib Dems hold liberal values and the Conservatives have conservative values but they are increasingly similar to each other nowadays.

Oh right.. Basically I need a line about the main 3 parties that a load of year eights will understand.

I've been given this info:

650 seats available in 2010. If one party wins at least 326, they have a MAJORITY, it is important to have a majority because it enables the government to make decisions on their own.

If no party wins a majority of seats then a HUNG PARLIAMENT will be formed, in this case no party has enough MPs to make decisions on their own so they need to team up.

AND (these are seperate things..)

Main Parties; Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem

Leaders; Mr Cameron, Mr Brown, Mr Clegg

Labour have been in power since 1997.

The Conservative party are likely to win the most votes,

Labour are likely to have the most seats

It's likely that no one will be able to form a government.

I have to put them into a 4 sentence speech each and find out a bit more info about them.

Wikipedia could be the answer to your problem.

To make things even easier:

The Conservative Party

The Labour Party

The Liberal Democrats

You can probably get some more information from those three sites (e.g brief history / what they stand for). That, combined with their key policies from the BBC site, should easily give you four lines each.

You could also write a bit about the smaller parties, The Green Party, UKIP etc. Although it's probably for the best that you don't mention the BNP! As far as I'm aware neither the Greens or UKIP hold a seat in the House of Commons.

In the last parliament, Labour had a large majority of 64 following the 2005 election- only time the Brown Administration was defeated in parliament was in June 2009 over the decision to great Gurkas citizenship.

The last time there was a Hung Parliament was between 1974 and 1979. Lib-Lab coalition. The 74-79 Labour government led by James Callaghan was seen by many as a disaster- the Conservatives were in power for 18 years after the 1979 Government fell in a "Motion of No Confidence".

Well thanks guys(:

I don't have to write it anymore.. I'm ill and taking the day off ): I didn't really revise for my science test later, so that is a plus...

My whole bus must think I'm a div, though.. I got on it and then pressed the stop button like a maniac and made the bus driver stop the bus because I was ill.. :/

      On July 8th Greg will surpass Grimmy's tenure on Radio 1 breakfast (5 years, 319 days) as the second-longest breakfast show presenter. He has already passed Tony Blackburn and Sim Mayo. I'm not sure if he will make Moyles' record of 8 years, 253 days, but he certainly still seems fresh and full of ideas!

      I guess we'll have to wait and see when the new schedule kicks in, although I could see Scott staying where he is.  Assuming that's the case and there are no other moves, there would be several available studios for Matt & Mollie - 82C or 82E of the 'old' studios, and 82M or 82N of the new ones.

      I would be pretty confident that if they keep avoiding using James Cusack on that slot over the next few weeks, then it will probably be him that gets the show permanently!

      I stand guilty as charged as the DS poster.... It was I Okay, so yes Connor has good energy and does the show well, I take it back, however, my last experience of him he spent every other link saying "It's Connor Coates in for the ledge that is Charlie Hedges" and then he started saying "Clem Douglas" - again after critisising that I see she is styled as that sometimes The point I was trying to make was, yes we know it's Charlies show, we know she is a ledge, and we know she is not here today, no need to keep reminding us Regards R1 dance, I suspect Arielle is pointed at the drivetime slot to go against Mistajam unless we know it is breakfast that will be live ? Apologies to Connor and anyone offended by my comments, was just going on my past experience of Mr Coates, who seems to be a very competnt presenter

      I know we have discussed this before, but can someone shed some light hoping @Lily Georgia can help Since the Wogan House closure, and 1-330 from Manchester, studio 82A (Mills) has been used by Scott's R2 show, in fact i note that him and Grandad Nelson are from there now days The question I have is with 1-330 coming from London again soon, who is getting a new studio? will Scott move to one of the newer ones down the corridor or will he remain in 82A and M&M get a new studio They cannot use 82D as that is used for drive, and currenlty 82A is in use by Scott from 2-4pm In the old days it used to be 82A for Greg, Scott, Annie and 82D Adele, RMC, Drive, Jack I note that Jack is in a brand new studio so maybe M&M will come from that one as well, maybe the same one as Vine uses?

      Very pleased for producer Amy - it's no coincidence many of the best shows in recent years have had her working on them. You can tell her & Helena are a great production duo and that the whole Matt & Mollie team are a really close-knit unit in general. Some lovely speeches by both Matt & Mollie too to end the show on Sunday.

      Echo what most have said here. Connor has great energy which is important for that sort of slot and the shame for him is that the dance line-up is so strong that there's no obvious 'in' for him to get a regular slot -Danny, Sarah, Pete Tong, Arielle, Charlie Hedges, Jerry and Charlie Tee are all great in their slots. A live show on Radio 1 Dance really feels the obvious way to get a proper foot in the door at Radio 1. Although to be fair to the DS critic I think it was just the one poster and can very much hear Connor in my head saying 'in for the legend that is Charlie Hedges'.
