I'm liking the Charlie Brooker and Huw Stephens. Not so much a fan of Speech Debelle. I'm sure she just said she thought winning £20,000 "wasn't much".

I think you perhaps have to be a Nihal fan to enjoy it. As a big fan of his weekend show, I like it. I like the idea and I agree it's a better use of an hour than trying to get an INMWT show in that time. There is nothing decent on TV tonight and I can see this being a decent alternative.

It looks like Brooker has tweeted about the show so there's quite a big following on Twitter talking about the show. Some people who have never heard Radio 1 refuse to tune in, those that will give it a go seem to enjoy it.

I would question the rating system a bit. Rating something "70%" is a bit random. I'll say more when it's over.

I love Brooker, which is why I don't understand how he can hate Chris Moyles so much and yet seem to have a fond affection for Nihal, who refers to him as UBER-reviewer. Nihal is practically everything that Brooker rants about on Screenwipe.

I reiterate my love for Brooker, but he seems to be starting to, dare I say, sell out a little.

Do you not think someone else might have just wrote that description?

Trouble with Nihal is he always seems to try too hard. Speech Debelle was just trying to make a serious point and he kept interrupting her with lame jokes. No need! I like the concept of the show, but why not try and be serious, just for an hour? I'm not asking for a Radio 4 style show, but young people won't tune out just because they hear something mildly intelligent.

I also think the rating system is unecessary. If the reviewers make their point well enough, there shouldn't be any need for them to come up with a random percentage.

I found it funny. I guess it's that marmite opinion of Nihal there. I actually have found Speech Debelle quite arrogant.

You might be right here. There's something about the ratings that doesn't work and you might be right about scrapping it. The idea is the best one is played tomorrow on Greg's show.

Ah I see, not a bad idea. Maybe a mark out of 10 would be better then. I don't get how you can distinguish between say 71 and 72%. Nihal's OK, I just think he needs to calm down a bit. He's actually a really good broadcaster, but he should just be himself rather than feeling the need to be funny or clever all the time.

It's essentially Hit, Miss, or Maybe from Live & Kicking, but with a more annoying host.

I like that element of it though. Retro.

If I had my wicked ways I would probably do something with the ratings. I would probably brand it more as 'BBC Radio 1's Music Review Show' (because for some reason I thought it'd be a mix of all sorts). I would also probably get more listener interaction involved if it's going to be live. Maybe some pre-recorded callers, take some texts or perhaps a fan page of some sort where people can give their opinions before the show and take the better opinions. It's just that having three minor celebrities is great. They just don't necessarily represent our views.

I do not doubt that opinions will be taken on board and that it's a work-in-progress show and format.

I'm enjoying the show and will probably listen again - Charlie Brooker is hilarious.

I hope they get a comedian every week.

I loved the Mika/Robbie rant from Charlie. I think he's just got comfortable ;)

Another thing about the ratings is that Nihal keeps interrupting their opinions to get their percentage.

Overall I think they probably have too many songs in the hour, perhaps they should stick to the big 5 releases of the week. Also, a bit of film, TV or book discussion wouldn't go amiss, just to add a bit of variety.

And Nihal needs to calm down.

But overall I'd give the show 63%...

Is it just me or did Speech Debelle appear to take it a bit personally she didn't win the ratings thing?

I sense it's due to the time limitations. Part of me wouldn't mind an extra say ten minutes on a podcast.

I like the idea of this show. I'll be listening in the future.

Liking the concept alot. What I heard was good and I think this kind of show falls better with Nihal. I hope this idea works out and the shows comes into its own over the next few weeks. I personally would like to see this kind of show on every day 9-10pm with Nihal as anchor.

Mon - The documentary thing is good - maybe a kind of Panorama for our generation on the radio.

Tues - keep with the music theme

Wed could be a book/arts review programme

Thurs - Movies.

Liking this radio1 - one of the best shows so far to come from this re-shuffle and think its the kind of thing that keep radio 1 edgey above the rest!

    • Conor Knight & Lauren Layfield are in for Matt & Mollie on Monday 14th July.  Matt is solo on Tuesday 15th July.  Jerry is in for Mollie between Wednesday 16th & Thursday 24th July.  Maia Beth is covering Future Pop on Wednesday 16th & Wednesday 23rd July. On Sunday 27th July the Chillest Show is reduced to an hour, and 20.00-21.00 is a BBC Proms special with JADE. On Thursday 31st July 18.00-20.00 in place of Jack's show it's the Dance Party Warm-Up with Danny Howard (ahead of the Ibiza weekend).
    • Dean McCullough in for Greg w/c 4th August. James Cusack on EB.
    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
