Tune in this Sunday at 10 p.m. to find out more!!

Off-air Surgery advice line: 0800 110 100 : available 24/7 (all calls confidential).

Incidentally:0800 numbers normally cost you when you're using a mobile, however Radio 2 came up with the following Site on Friday, which may be useful for some of you: www.0800buster.co.uk

Basically, you dial 01237 20 0800, then enter the 0800/0808 number then press # to begin the call!! There are terms though:

"Disclaimer * “Free” assumes you receive inclusive minutes to UK landlines as part of your mobile phone contract. 0800Buster access numbers should be included in these free minutes, and should otherwise be charged at your provider’s normal UK landline rate. 0800Buster.co.uk accepts no liability for any costs incurred from using our service."

So wrong!

It isn't .... it's genius. Right, I'll get a little bottle of wine from TESCO this afternoon, and join in tomorrow night.

If you receive any bizarre texts, Aled, it's because of TESCO wine!!

ps: It's kind of ironic that the Surgery will probably be all anti-alcohol, and we'll all be "smashed" lol

On a less funny note, a 14 year old girl has just wound up in our local harbour last night - in the water - an alcohol related incident. Thankfully, she's OK and is recovering in hospital.

Aled, btw, has posted this from twitter: "Listener research time! For surgery please reply with ur answer to this: how many days a week do you have an alcoholic drink & how old r u?"

Right, so: Viv, 41 years old - It varies:

Some weeks = 0 alcohol.

Other weeks = 1 day = approximately 4 units maximum.

we should do it like this, each time Aled mentions a certain drink we have to drink it :drunk: , a bit like this below

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHnBppccI0o&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHnBppccI0o&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

& it will all be R1's fault :hahaha:

I'm twenty and I only drink occasionally. By which I mean I'll go to the pub probably once every three months. I will feel pressured to do so on say New Year's Eve or a birthday party but I don't mind that, if I'm in a pub it generally means I will go all the way. "Just one..." doesn't seem to be in my vocabulary.

But I guess I only drink every so often it doesn't matter. Plus when I do drink it can have some negative effects on my stomach so I do try to avoid it.

See!! That line in your post "I feel pressured to do so".... that's the annoying thing where people feel pressured into alcohol just to please others or be sociable.

You're in a pub. I don't think I've ever seen anyone buy anything other than an alcoholic drink where I live.

The nearest socialable pub (which isn't for oldies) is in a town notorious for booze though. There's a real problem with binge drinking which is amazing for Norfolk because as far as everything else goes - drugs, violence and so on - we're pretty quiet.

You also have Prince of Wales Road in Norwich which to me is a no go area in Norwich during the evening. You've got people bottling people, stabbing and all sorts which I do not doubt is due to the number of pubs and clubs. The rest of Norwich I would feel reasonably safe walking around at night. Just not there - I would get a bus, it's just not worth it.

Although Jono is saying he does feel the pressure to drink on certain occasions - I think it is very admirable to hear a 20 year old guy saying that he doesn't always follow the crowd and go out and get smashed every weekend. So many people do just to 'fit in'.

Before I met my ex I was in the habit of thinking "these people were my school friends, I don't know them that well but they get drunk and so I'll get drunk too to fit in with them". I went to the pub when I could but luckily I work most Friday and Saturday nights and Wednesday nights which are the hot spot nights. It got to the point where I was like "why am I doing this? I don't want a life where I just socialise by getting drunk". It was just a darn expensive way to have a social life and seemed silly, particularly as people would only know a drunk Jono and not the real person I am in the day.

Also I'm supposedly a hilarious drunk and I think I'd just be a twat if I did that every week, I would probably get punched.

I completely agree, it is a very expensive way to socialise. I got to the point where I was getting so annoyed with myself for spending so much money on a night out that I could barely even remember the next day. What is the pint in that? Now I'd much spend that money on going out for a nice meal with friends - yeah we will often have wine with the meal but it's more on a level where we enjoy the taste of the wine with the food rather than drinking it solely to get drunk. Also now it's not a big deal if someone we're out with doesn't drink alcohol.

What a great typo!

Right, well I started my TESCO wine at around 8 p.m., which has unfortunately resulted in me being slightly bonkers by the time the Surgery came on. I have missed what next week's topic will be, as I fell asleep. This has annoyed me now.

BTW, did I hear someone who put vodka in their eye...?

    • Bank Holiday Monday Schedule 6am-10am: Arielle Free in for Greg 10am-2pm: Dean & Vicky (No Rickie, Melvin & Charlie) 2pm-6pm: Vick & Jamie (No Katie) 6pm onwards: As normal.
    • Dare I say they've sounded great this past week?  Very much gelling.  Maybe less pressure?  Seem to be having a genuinely good time and not forcing things.
    • I'm in the minority in my workplace, most of them love country music.  Me, the American, does not care for it.  That said, I haven't haaaaaated some of the country adjacent stuff that's been on the R1 playlist.
    • The Eurovision semi finals are on from 8 to 10pm on Tuesday 7th and Thursday 9th May with Richie Anderson. That means Sara Cox in on till 8 on those days.  Saturday 11th May is Eurovision 'Super Saturday... 1-3pm Your Ultimate Abba song with Gary Davies  3-6pm Michelle Visage's Eurovision All Stars 6-8pm Eurovision Request Party with Owain Wynn Evans 8pm Eurovision Grand Final with Scott Mills and Rylan Clark
    • It is funny because everyone thought Matt was on the way out, now he's been described as the heir to Mills.
    • Some similar names to Big Weekend.  Sabrina Carpenter, David Guetta, Perrie, Bradley Simpson, Jax Jones, Caity Baser, Benson Boone, Rudimental. David Guetta is a good name.
    • Still Scott for me. I'm not too much into the 70s and 80s radio 2 play but do love the injection of 90s and 00s. Then Radio 2 push for all this country stuff and it not a UK thing, and I frankly don't like it. Scott's show as in features, hit and miss. I like the music police bit, but it feels like someone needs to join him. It's a shame Chappers is so busy with sports, as it feels like it could do with someone like him jumping on to help. Or a new partner. Radio 1, take or leave. Matt and Mollie are OK from what I've heard and share a good connection, but it's the playlist that throws me off. They could bring back Chris Moyles to do that show, but as soon as something like Headie One comes on with that casino keyboard produced crap. It would still be switched off from me.
    • Reading through this thread, I don't feel quite so alone now, in thinking that Scott Mills on R2 is not a good 'fit' (even less so than on R5).  I can't quite explain why this is so - I just know it to be so.
    • Arielle has been on holiday for the last 2 weeks getting married / honeymoon.  It'll be live from this week onwards.
    • CassKidd is in for Sian on Sunday 5th May.
    • The brought to tiers feature was also very good from them. I did wonder which DJ's were going to get picked out of the hat, that could have gone one way or the other and the caller said they were very opinionated lol. Correct decision putting katie in god tier!
    • The extended Dua Lipa track from M&M was very funny. I'm hoping Matt and Mollie and Scott have a good relationship a bit like Greg and Zoe collaborate on-air sometimes.
    • Gary Davies in for Vernon Kay tomorrow (Monday 29th April).
    • When Scott and Chris announced their departure from R1, I remember there was lots of speculation about who would take over the 1pm slot. Matt and Mollie were talked about a lot on here, and at the time I really didn't rate them as a replacement. A few years on, I see that I was totally wrong. They are such a good pairing, and it's the same kind of duo as Scott and Chris, in that they are real life friends, who spend time together in their real lives, which really does come across on air. True friends having a laugh together, and everyone is invited is how it feels to me now. I never thought about it before, but I agree with @coffeeandgin that Mollie is the Scott of the duo - pop obsessed and maybe a litte ditsy, but so funny, and in need of someone to anchor to or bounce off.  It seems that Matt is the kind of Chris of the duo then in that comparison, the one with the ideas, but also needs another person to make the magic happen. I know I'm outside of the R1 demographic, and maybe Dean and Vicky were meant to be younger and fresher, but I'm sure in my younger years I would have preferred to listen to two people who had a genuine connection and could really make each other laugh, as well as have the listeners laugh along. That was the Scott and Chris factor for me, and I think the only pair that come close to that now are Matt and Mollie.
