Did anyone hear Jo this morning? She pressed the wrong button so the bed said Radio 1's Live Lounge, she turned it off and said 'wrong button that must be why they are getting rid of me.'

She doesn't sound too impressed.

Got a time on that?

She didn't say that at all.

'Wrong one.....Thats why im moving you see...*BIG LAUGH*'

Jono - 1:43:25

She said it in a comical way although still had a stuck up her own arse voice.

Roughly the same thing. I had listened to it hours previously you know.

So I go on holiday for one week and all this happens! My opinion, overall well done Radio 1.

First, Fearne Cotton. When she's with Reggie, I can't stand either of them. When they're seperate, they are bearable. Fearne is improving, she did a decent job covering for Edith. While I don't feel she's the best choice for the job, she is clearly poular with the youth who Radio 1 are trying to attract.

As for Jo, sorry but she had to go. She was great in her time but now sounds too old and I believe the time has come for her to move on. Good broadcaster, but time to go.

Similar applys with Edith. She sounds like a nice woman, but I've never found her show entertaining sadly. I don't think like Jo she sounds too old, I just think her shows are a bit predictable. As for her replacement, Mr James, perfect choice. He is quite simply the best regular DJ on the station behind Moyles and Mills. He deserves a promotion, he's been great on Early's and on his multiple cover, lets hope he keeps it up. I'm sure he will, fully deserved.

I'm liking the sound of Dev, good choice for earlies. Would I have preferred Ronnie Herel? Yes I think so, but Dev sounds good.

Now the complaints. Having started out not liking him at all, I'm now a fan of Nihal and will miss him on afternoons, I'd rather listen to him than Jo. If I were Mr Parfitt I'd thank Jo very much for her excellent work over the years but let her go and let Nihal keep his slot. OR, get rid of Jo and give it Sara. We still don't hear enough of her.

Now cover, interesting issue. Here's what I'd do.

Chris Moyles >> Scott Mills (or Vernon if just Chris is off)

Fearne Cotton >> Sara Cox

Greg James >> Nihal

Scott Mills >> Sara Cox (has covered the show and worked with Chappers before)

Any other cover work, IE one offs either Annie Mac or Huw Stephens or possible Edith.

Who will go first?

Whiley,Bowman or Coxy?

Depends. Whiley is definitely an interesting candidate for any other BBC station. Radio2? 6music? Rado4? I guess when one of these stations calls her and offers to do a show, she'll go. Don't think Radio 1 will force her leave.

Cox and Bowman? Both not really 6music-ish. Let alone Radio 2.

unique...

If they'd replaced Reggie with an oldie Radio 1 would be the ideal station for the non-Switch generation during the day at weekend.

7am Edith Bowman

10am Vernon Kay / Sara Cox

1pm Jo Whiley

4pm Request Show / Chart Show

They should probably have bumped the chart show off I feel.

I think sadly that coxy might just go first - I think she is probably what Radio 2 are looking for as they try to add a more diverse/risque line-up. She would fit easily into a nice weekend slot. And even 6 music. I think weekend breakfast will fit nicely with Ediths new family commitments and maybe it is time that an experienced presenter took on this role of a show that hasnt held a presenter for longer than 6 months recently!

Jo wont leave, I cant see her in that slot for long, but she wont go - she is radio 1 through and through and despite being older than the target audience she is good at what she does. MAybe her show had gone as far it could in the weekday slot.

I agree with Jono - chart show/request show should be given to an older presenter - Maybe this would have suited Jo nicely as its all about the music! Reggie then in an fternoon slot might have been a bit more entertaining.

The shake up this time next year will be HUGE as I'm afraid Moyles' contract will be up by then....and it does seem that the consensus is this year will be his last on Breakfast.

If you wanna take bets now I think the following will happen (and seems to be a good evolution of the current schedule)....Scott to Breakfast, Reggie to Drive.

leaving the weekend...

7am Edith

10am Chris Moyles

1pm Sara Cox

4pm Jo Whiley on request / Vernon on the Chart (who ever)

Seems quite likely to me. Moyles said his favoruite show was the 10-1 weekend slot and I think he will prob stay at the station after breakfast for an extra 2-3 years paving the way for a move to R2 when he is "older".

I think that 10-1 would suit Chris well and I think he'd enjoy doing the lie - in. I think Scott for breakfast is the only option, no one else at the station has it in them imo, they'll really struggle once he's gone imo.

Reggie to drive is unlikely, so is Jo doing requests and Vernon doing the chart. Vernon doing the saturday 4-7 could work though, either with requests, sport or dance music. I think they should give Grimmy the drive slot and develop a zoo format with him, lining him up for breakfast, possibly with Annie Mac?

Then, since daytime is now younger they could possibly drop Switch and give Jo Sunday 7-10 in a new music format? Another option is to give her the 10-12 weeknight slot, Huw Stephens would also be good in that slot imo, but could he do that and still be the face of INMWT? Or would we need a new face for that? Bethan Elfyn? Vic Galloway? and new talent presenting the nations in England?

Also Ras Kuame is way underused, he should get Westwood's Tuesday show.

Sorry that my post isn't well laid out!

    • I quite quickly gave up on Scott’s show on R2 as I realised it wasn’t my kind of vibe. I do listen to the Scott Mills weekly to catch up, because I still think Scott is great, but there is just something missing (for example, he played out some clips recently of the old sleep recording app from the R1 days, and didn’t play ‘go and open the window Garry’ - or if he did, it didn’t make it to the podcast.) I don’t see them changing it now or making it any ‘younger’ than it is.   Matt & Mollie in the afternoon is something that I’m really looking forward to. They are such an interesting and funny listen. It has given me a different dilemma though, as 1pm has been the perfect time for me to catch up on the Capital breakfast show and takes me perfectly to the end of my working day, so now I’ll probably have to forego listening to that and stick with R1 for Matt & Mollie. These shows need podcasts because it’s already giving me fomo.
    • Even for the older Radio 1 listeners (of which there are still quite a few) Scott’s show doesn’t feel quite right.  (That’s nothing on Scott who sounds good but more the station sound and content). Since moving to Capital Breakfast I haven’t been listening to much Radio 1.  I always found the shows outside of Breakfast and Drive more wallpaper due to my working day and the show content of RMC and Dean and Vicky so Capital is just background noise to me after enjoying Breakfast.
    • I love Scott but if you're a 20 or 30 something that enjoyed his last few years of Radio 1 the Radio 2 show just doesn't translate. Stars from Neighbours or 90s singers just aren't my cup of tea and I can't get enthused about some has been at Radio 2 in the Park or some country music countdown.  Until that changes I will probably more likely listen to Matt and Mollie.  The Steve Wright fans think Radio 2 has turned into Radio 1 but it has a long way to go to win over the older R1 audience.
    • Radio 2 brought in Scott to bring the afternoon audience age down, but I feel with Matt and Mollie replacing Dean and Vicky they're going to be competing for a similar audience. Will Scott's show evolve to bring in more listeners or do you think they will be comfortable with the audience they currently have?
    • Yes I'm the same with 6Music. Huw Stephens offers something different.
    • They are an answer. I do listen to 6 Music quite a bit but kind of feel like it isn’t for me unlike the New Music Fix Daily, Huw Stephens who I’d happily listen to. Think it’s a generational thing and music preference. But it’s like how 1 Xtra cut down Snoochie Shy’s nightly show to just Monday and with Wednesday and Thursday with just playlist programme. I just miss the days of having more choice of that time of night.
    • Practically speaking, Riley & Coe on 6Music is the answer to that problem - but I get your overall point.
    • Yes and thats the huge selling point after 6pm as always has been in the evening. As when I started listening to radio 1 about eleven twelve years ago its the station that got me into music new and familiar artists and bands. I think the issue with a lot of the new music shows being crammed in length of the shows and not all is live there’s less chance for a presenter to tell you about the band or artist or have the impression of chatting to the listener by reading out texts and emails or including voice notes. I’m really enjoying Jack Saunders’ new music show as thats how you do a show like that on Radio 1 good mix of genres but from 10pm onwards you don’t have the presenter chatting to the listener or that live feel as sometimes you need at that time.
    • Given one of yesterday’s ‘bangers’ was Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, I doubt it.
    • No chart show on the 24th May because of Big Weekend.
    • How has it been working early mornings as a parent, Chris? Is it harder to juggle than the 1-4 slot?
    • I still think Dua Lipa could make the line-up. She's in the Live Lounge soon. Would be a scoop if they had two of the key Glastonbury performers.
    • Is the three bangers after nine idea meant to compete with Ten Minute Takeover?
    • Connor Coates is in for Charlie Hedges on Saturday 18th May. Kerrie Cosh is in for Jess on Sunday 19th May.
    • But if Radio 1's big selling point is new music it's strange. Clara fell a bit flat in comparison to her predecessors because she wasn't shaped in the same way as Annie or Zane.
