The Chris Moyles Show is changing!

On which bit?

The Chris Moyles Show is all about explosive openings each year. The build up begins when Christmas Day has arrived and continues until the moment Chris returns in the second week of January.

As for Radio Broadland, the Global/GCap stations in East Anglia have been advertising for the last month 'a new station is coming - Heart' in between songs for the past month and there's been billboards everywhere in Norwich. Just because each station is being renamed as Heart. The poor fools who think it'll be a new station!

I meant the latter bit, so thanks. Whilst I understand completely, I do remember when I worked at a factory where they changed the radio station every day to have Heart Midlands, BRMB, Beacon, Radio 1, and Kerrang once a week, and only Heart actually sounded like it's own station. All the other four actually sounded the same - even Kerrang. But then I've never heard Radio Broadland so for all I know, it could just be the exact same as Heart anyway.

When the Gcap/Global stations that are turning into Heart actually change they will all sound the same anyway.

From the Global Radio Website:

With "More Music Variety" Heart plays the best variety of music with witty banter and celebrity guests. In London millions of listeners start their day with a bit of Jamie and Harriet in the morning - jam-packed and star-studded, only the A-listers make it onto the show. But Jamie and Harriet aren't alone. Each of our Heart stations across the UK has their own local breakfast show of the highest standard.

Local breakfast and drive, coupled with national programming from Leicester Square at other times of day, means Global Radio offers the the national brand of Heart, delivered both nationally and locally - the best of both worlds.

Now add the Networked Playlists, where Breakfast and Drive shows play the same tracks as the other heart stations are playing during the 4/5 hour stint, and effectively you are left with just the voices of your local breakfast show, and drivetime show.

IMO Global have killed off local radio, and turned it into robotic b*llocks.

Anyway...

Well most Heart stations are only going to have a local breakfast show anyway.....it will all be networked outside of 6-10am.

Breakfast (as you said above) will no doubt have the same playlist across the whole group.

Totally agree say goodbye to individualism such as when kiss E map etc bought vibe 105-108 now they just play the same stuff in east anglia as they do in london just different dj's to talk between cr@p playlists.

Thats another thing I don't like about (supposedly) local radio these days, surely it should be all about just broadcasting locally, with local chat, news and traffic. There isn't any music control on the Gcap network anymore at 7pm, instead they have moved the 10am-2pm person to 7pm-10pm and stuck a reigonal/national person on the mid morning/lunch slot. Does that mean listenership is higher in the evening slot?

Anyway, to make my post slightly on topic, i'm quite looking forward to seeing how much the format has changed and to see what the new audio package is like for Chris and Newsbeat. On the music4 website, they use the work 'remix' to describe the Newsbeat package. It's slightly ominous, but to me that means its not going to drastically change.

No they won't. They will have live Drive on every station.

By me the stations do a local network too, with a few stations, for drivetime and thats apparently continuing aswell as the daytime networking/evening networking/overnight networking.

I'm guessing they'll hold off on the newsbeat changing until Monday 12th Jan and launch it at the same time as Moyles' new imaging....could be wrong though.

Moyles has actually played it quite well this year coming back later because everybody will be back into their daily routines and then will be ready to hear the show come back.....

He does that every year though doesn't he? I thought he'd have come back this week though. Everyone seems to be back to school this week.

I've not heard previous years.......but thought it was a good idea the way they've done it. I think if they had come back today the listeners may not be as interested because they will be thinking 'oh god, what have i got to deal with in work after this big break off', etc etc. Perhaps heading in earlier too.......

Good tease from Aled on the CM blog today.....

Happy New Year!

Hello! Happy New Year from The Chris Moyles Show!

Missing us? It feels so odd to be on holiday for the 3rd week! The first time ever. I say holiday - I'm obviously referring to the show, as both Rach and I are in the office working on the show coming back next week. We're busily setting up a few Outside Broadcasts, websites, new on-air features and getting the new sound for the New Year.

Just a reminder that today is the last day you've got to download the 12 podcasts from our mammoth 12 hour New Year's Day show which featured the best bits of 2008 with a selection of best bits from the first 5 years as Radio 1's Breakfast show.

If you've got a new mp3 / phone / iPod for Christmas - why don't you make our podcast your first podcast! (and welcome to the 21st Century!)

I've got a couple of further blogs coming this week with a little bit more news about next week's show, starting tomorrow with the space that Car Park Catchphrase will be leaving on the show.

Have a good day

Also from CM blog:

Another little secret I can reveal for you now... if you LOVE listening to The Chris Moyles Show then from Monday for 5 days you're going to love WATCHING it too!!!!

This is something we've trialled for a day a few months back - it went SO well, we're extending it to a week. There will be proper Big Brother style cameras all over the studio so that you can log on at any time during the show and feel a part of the team and see what we all do. (Watch how grumpy Dave can look in the morning, or how Carrie really does hide under the desk when doing the pub quiz, about how Chris constantly wrings his hands when he speaks or how much work Rachel does in the studio - that no-one ever talks about!)

For the geeks amongst us the cameras are only ONE part of the whole experience there's a WHOLE console of cool stuff which will be revealed across the week!

Well, that's it from me. I'm off to Wales to do Welsh TV show called Uned 5 and then back for The Surgery this Sunday that this week is all about mental health.

And then... Monday monring, 6:30am - the return of The Chris Moyles Show at breakfast for Year 6 on BBC Radio 1.

TV Show?? Would that be the once he did for C4 or another tv project thats show related??
The Chris Moyles Quiz - Channel 4 (March 2009)

AND....i think he did something that going to be on the BBC soon. Somebody mentioned it would be him tracing his family history but i think that would be too boring for him.

    • Nat in for Dean with Vicky as well that day.
    • So the end of weekend afternoons this week - new show is July 1st.
    • Arielle is in for Greg on Monday 27th May.
    • He’s definitely gotten better and the show has sounded fine this week. I think it been at its best when it’s been Katie and Jamie or Vick and Katie. Vick and Jamie are ok together, but I do think the show sounds better when it’s Vick and Katie and therefore I still don’t really understand the point of the trio.    Jamie is, however, a lot better than Danny Beard!
    • The RAJAR coming on later this year reflecting later summer to autumn will be interesting to how it reflects Matt and Mollie in afternoons to the revised changes on radio 1’s new music slots and the schedule re-shuffling Radio 3 introducing a new slate of programmes. Then, later on this year have speech radio stations having domestic political coverage of the election but also America’s presidential election.
    • I actually caught snippets of today’s show, and I found it much better than the last time I listened. I have made it no secret that I like Jamie on the radio, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Matt & him together last year. People have criticised him for not being relatable, but I have to agree with the comment above that I have always found him a naturally warm person to listen to. Maybe the going home set up was something that needed settling in and things are starting to take shape.  It must have been difficult for him joining an established duo in Vick & Katie to begin with.  Jamie was great on something songs today, fully engaged in the caller and sounded like a real presenter. Maybe he is doing as a lot of us hoped and really learning as he goes, how to do it properly.
    • Agree with this. The anti-Jamie feeling was IMO quite influenced by the negativity around him replacing Jordan, since Jordan was exceptional and also universally loved. When people mention Danny and Jamie in the same sentence about bad hiring decisions I almost choke - Jamie may not be perfect but he's several leagues better than Danny already and has bags of potential. Danny is poor and has shown zero potential...
    • Jamie started 4 March, and the figures only going up to 31 March, so it isn't reliable. But it has shown the numbers have dropped in afternoons compared to last quarter. It looks like it's Capital's gain.
    • Do these audience figures reflect Jordan leaving and Jamie replacing him?
    • I think Jamie is really starting to settle into the role well. He comes across as really warm, and genuinely invested in the listeners when he’s talking to them which is nice. I think he’s building a really great relationship with Vicki and Katie too. His recent great company podcast is great too, where he has quite a deep chat with someone new each week. He’s clearly a very genuine person and I think he has some real potential.
    • Most probably. But do wonder what the future of the relax themed programmes will be when they officially wind down that service.
    • I think it's just to replace Wind Down presents... which was in that timeslot, and I'm guessing Chillout Anthems was just a buffer since it'll still be played at 06:00 on Sundays.
    • With listening on the U.K. for the industry in general it is good overall as most stations reach is on the up and shows radio to be more sustainable and stable outlet than linear televisions channels. This RAJAR I think with the increase shift to DAB+ the BBC will be able to say it has it’s audiences for the proposed new stations it wishes to launch and think the new innovative ideas that it seems Jack himself can take credit for on the new music show think the younger under 30 gen z demographic could increase se in that time-slot.
    • Conor Knight is in for Sam & Danni on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June. It's Radio 1 at Parklife, 13.00-16.00 on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th June. Matt & Mollie are in for Greg from Monday 10th to Friday 14th June - it's just Matt on the Thursday. It's Radio 1 at Download, 13.00-16.00 on Friday 14th June.
    • Rajar looking healthy this quarter, with the numbers staying fairly stable.
