That actually looks like a pretty good set of changes, I probably won't be dragging myself out of bed at half 6 in the morning to listen to an extra half-hour of Moyles any time soon but at least they've finally booted Fearne and Reggie off weekend breakfast. No more wittering on about how they were playing particular records years before anyone else, haha. And thank god JK and Joke are finally leaving... although no doubt this'll mean that Sara Cox'll be covering for Scott permanently in the afternoons when he covers for Moyles in the mornings. Oh well, suppose you can't have everything. And congrats to Greg James as well, hopefully this'll give him the opportunity he needs to really establish himself as a Radio 1 DJ.

So save the last dance

But that is certainly an interesting change to Radio 1, and I'm not too surprised by it all. There was plenty of rumours about JK and Joel wanting change, and that seems to clear that up. Going to miss them though, they were the better covers for Scott's show.

I'm glad Fearne and Reggie are off weekend breakfast, and it was clear there needed to be a huge shake-up of the chart. I personally expected it to go completely. Moyles gaining half an hour is a good move, and a very good move for Greg there... does this mean he'll do Mondays to Fridays?

Worried about Nihal on weekend breakfast, but I think if anywhere in the schedule this will be the best place for him. Who does Dick and Dom replace? We knew they were going to get a slot a year ago, it's taken it's time coming.

Kelly Osbourne? Clearly talks with Peaches broke down. And when I was at Radio 1 in July they were very keen to work on a teens project, clearly the result of that will be the Sunday night.

Shame about the Trophy Twins, they were good.

Overall it's good to see change, but nothing that's hitting me as something to jump about for! I see no room for floor fillers if there's a dance night on a Friday night.

what happens to dance anthems? and the fact of the trophy twins leaving is a discrace. and jk and joel should of carried on from mark and lard in 2004 to avoid the mess that we have now, shame they are going. do radio 1 think that no-one is good enough for them anymore.

I expected something to change weekday afternoons. Clearly they're happy with the daytime line-up as it is. But as we outlined in the other thread weekends really did need a shake-up. Vernon Kay is only to present a Saturday show then, here's the schedule...

Now confirmed by Radio 1: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2007/09_september/06/radio1.shtml

wtf? dick and dom joining the station? kelly osbourne is there only becuase of who she is, fearne and reggie doing the chart show. offloading jk & joel who should of been on afternoons from the start. it seems like a bad joke to me.

on the plus greg james gets a break and moyles gets longer time so it's not all bad, but being as they are revamping sunday nights whats happening to dance anthems? one of the few shows on a hippie endorsed radio 1 i still enjoy and always have, i am guessing it stays the same and the sunday surgery stays on?

huge shame that jk and joel werent given the support they deserved. big talent we were told but were just plonked in the chart show. rumours they were to do 1pm til 4pm must have been true, and must have fell through, as they couldn't have just employed them for that.

shame on the bbc for picking tv personalities over true radio talent!!

Sounds interesting - giving Moyles an extra half hour sounds great, and I'm hoping that since Greg James is getting early breakfast full time, maybe he'll start filling in for Scott?

I agree JK and Joel will be quite a loss, but just to the people saying it's Radio 1's fault, at least consider the possiblity that they actually wanted to leave - they've been getting alot more TV work lately, so they may want to focus on that.

Out of interest, has this been mentioned on air yet does anyone know?

I doubt it, it's only just gone up online, and I can't imagine Edith would be the one to talk schedule changes!

Nihal was lost for words: "OH MY GOSH! I'm still so hyped up by this news that when I eventually calm down I'll be able to verbalise how humbled and excited I am."

Yup, that sounds like Nihal...

Will people really catch Moyles at 6.30am? They seem to be following the technique of other radio stations, but I would have rather there was an extra half hour at the end of the show.

I kind of agree, because I would be far more likely to listen if it was at the end of the show, but I always thought 6.30-9.30 seemed more like a breakfast show time than 7.00-10.00. Hopefully this will just give me encouragement to get up earlier!!

agreed. i thought things were taking a turn for the worse in 2004 but nothing compared to this, not everyone leaches on celebs. and about jk & joel, i remember hearing of them coming to radio 1 towards the end of mark & lard but i guess there was too much of a gap. i remeber when the bbc strikes were on and colin & edith couldn't make it in, and they covered. a breath of fresh air to be honest, you could tell they were meant for that spot. i still have some old shows when they covered for mills somewhere. seems they cant find dj's to last like scott mills, moyles and mark radcliffe these days.

i will miss it on a sunday night, but at least it is still there. in the last few years judge jules show has lost it's quality of music to me so this was going to happen eventually. compared to his show in 2001/2 it isn't the same to me.

sometimes change is a bad thing, radio 1 have made a few good moves then messed it all up by bringing in this. i am pretty sure if the bbc sold radio 1, then hello magazine would buy it out. they wouldn't have to bloody change much.

i see dj's like mills and moyles vanishing and if you lose that quality then you lose listeners, i know of many who get annoyed by some of it and settle for galaxy instead. a few years ago that was unheard of.

I don't think it's messed with things too much, but that's coming from someone who listens for daytime, and isn't too into his specialist stuff. It's clear from the changes Radio 1 are aimings things more at the teeny boppers with these changes - Dick and Dom, Kelly Osbourne, Fearne and Reggie, Annie Mac and Nihal. But haven't really given much back to those at the other end of the spectrum.

An extra half hour of Moyles, and Greg James, but not a lot else.

Is there some irony in an Osbourne giving advice on the Radio 1 surgery?
