5 year plan

Interested to know what people think the station will be like in the next 5 years.

Pretty obvious Greg won't go before 2027 but then I think Jack becomes next breakfast host.

Katie in Live lounge

Sam and Danni on Afternoons

Dean on Drive

Arielle on future sounds

Charlie on Friday nights and Rickie and Melvin on 1xtra Breakfast show.

I'd also quite like a movies show a Sunday where they discuss new films for this week and play music from it and music from other films. Could do it from 7 to 9 before r1 relax

Greg has made no secret of his desire to get the record. I think he would reject all offers til he gets it and I also don't think he will take another radio show on any station after the breakfast show ends.

With the added bad blood between Aled and Moyles then I don't think Aled will axe Greg so he can take it from him.

The only question is will anyone replace Aled in the meantime

Great post as ever however after recent events. I have no clue atm i will give this one some thought and post back soon. However i think Greg will be gone before 2027

That's my view too.  Most of us had been predicting Matt leaving and Greg leaving and being replaced Jordan.

When we think of the biggest still upcoming talents on the station such as Sam and Danni and Jack Saunders we would expect central roles.  But now who could predict them not leaving for bigger jobs elsewhere!

Right now my best guess until the end of 2025 is stability with maybe a few minor changes to specialist shows.  (Maybe Daniel P Carter moving on, maybe some of the Dance DJs being snapped up for bigger roles elsewhere, there is amazing talent in Danny, Sarah, Charlie Tee and Jeremiah).

Is this actually true? I am not sure I have ever heard/read about Greg talking of beating Moyles's record?

Doesn't mean I don't think he could do it... I think Radio 1 will be desperate to keep his stability for a while yet, and with the news of his new contract he'll definitely beat Grimmy into second longest.

I think Greg will leave next year, maybe Jordan was promised breakfast to an extent…but Not just the Jordan show. I think there is no breakfast show ready to take over from Greg.
Feel for Aled because a lot of the recent decisions have been more about where in the uk they broadcast from (which maybe from above him)…it’s not as easy as putting someone in a new city.

i think RMC leave next year too…Jordan leaving ultimately extended their shelf life.
in terms of who’s taking over a breakfast show I have no idea!

Jack Saunders is far too much for breakfast. I like him but he’s awful on the charts show and doesn’t have a lot about him. He’s just the shoutout king and team this or that.

I reckon it will either be Matt and Mollie on breakfast, unless they don’t want to do it. Then they may take a punt on Sam and Dani.

I highly doubt RMC will leave, most DJs leave if they have tv shows to fall back on and none of them do. I can see Vick and Katie presenting that show though and think they’d be great at it.

Mid afternoon could go to Nat and James from Salford.

Drive could be Sam and Dani’s or Vicky and Emil from Salford.

Jack will be future sounds, Arielle will be far too old to be doing that show if he ever moves on.

Sian to do the 20:00 slot in whatever format it is.

Some of the phrases on here are very funny, the shoutout king 😂 Jack is great whenever I catch bits of him on the evening shows and delivering the new music but I get what you mean and I much prefered Scott on the chart.

It feels like arielle is going to stay with the dance djs now .I do think Katie will stay with R1 across this time period being discussed. Nat and vicky could stay as a thing but equally James and Katie could if Vick left in the next few years. I don't think she'll be there in 18 months - 2 years

    • https://youtu.be/A_Cycjg5_9A?si=NiLTFeiTNWBExFoR   As barmy as Sam Ryder has now gone, as shown in this video. I'd still rather it than that bland Olly Alexander record.
    • I like Scott, and I listen to Rylan's show every week... they do sound great together on Eurovision etc but.. as for a daily show together, I don't think it would work. Rylan would probably have to reign it in a bit which would lose his appeal, otherwise it may become too chaotic, in my opinion. That Saturday slot is perfect for Rylan, his rapport with Sally Traffic and Lottie is great. I suppose it comes down to cost as well and if he would want a daily show?   Radio 2 are clearly happy with Scott's show, and considering he's just won Best Entertainment Show at the ARIA's, I can't see them changing much.
    • A win for Scott which is fantastic after the last few years he's been through!
    • Am I outnumbered for not wanting to work in radio? It feels like there's a lot of geeks that want a job in the industry here.
    • Thought Sam and Danni were robbed of an award.
    • OJ Borg is in for Trevor Nelson on the Rhythm Nation tonight (with Phill Williams on overnight). He's also in for Michael Ball for the next two Sundays (12th and 19th May). Ros Atkins (BBC's Analysis editior) is in for Jeremy Vine on Thursday. Another new name to Radio 2 is Oliver Hides from BBC Radio Wales. He sat in for Owain Wynn Evans yesterday and he's in again this Thursday (9th May) and Bank Holiday Monday (27th) Spoony in for Scott Mills from Tuesday 28th till Friday 31st May.
    • Thought they would make it easier to get to this event. There's been no communication from the council or organisers about travel, even though there's talk of train strikes. Smaller councils have done a better job.
    • They do sound good together, but I'm not sure Rylan will want the extra commitments.
    • I have accepted Chris is unlikely to join Scott's show, and that Chappers has moved on, but I still think he could do with a co-host. The most logical solution, I think, is Rylan. He appears more often on his show than not, and they are great together. Radio 2 could lose Rylan's Saturday show and extend his reach by appearing during the week. I think they'd be great!
    • Tattoo took a while to grow on me. I couldn't see the fuss until weeks after. We have a split household here where the war on Gaza is overshadowing an enjoyment. I'm hoping for a protest of some sort.
    • I've heard that the staging is very impressive.  That and him being "known" might prevent an embarrassing result.  I'm a terrible judge of Eurovision though as Tattoo is still so very meh to me.
    • Feels like after the success of Sam Ryder we are going back to our old ways. Olly Alexander's song is pretty weak. Anyone fancy our chances this year?
    • The more time goes on the more you think if they'd actually put some thought into it it should've been Vick & Katie from the start. A proven pairing and Katie ended up on the show anyway - whereas Katie's even mentioned she was only asked to join after the Jamie announcement And even by Going Home standards on time off, it's quite funny that a few months in we still haven't had a full week of the supposed line-up - and that's with a 4-day week.
