Personally I think that people who smoke and need transplants related to their smoking or drinking should be put at the bottom of the waiting list, .

But where do you stop? Smokers actually pay massive amounts of extra tax to support their habit, so shouldn't they be seen first?

How about car drivers? It's their fault for getting injured, they must have known that before deciding to drive, should they be put to the bottom of a list? They pollute the air with carcinogenic gases as well.

People with alcohol related injuries, be it cirrhoses or injuries from part the 90% of all violent crime that involves alcohol?

The addictive properties of nicotine is the equal of heroin.(some say more so)

Imagine if the exhaust from cars was as visible as fag smoke, just because you can't see it, doesn't mean your not breathing in all the carcinogens produced constantly by the internal combustion engine.

Personally I hate smoking, and I am a smoker. I've failed to quit more times than I care to mention. It's the only vice I have left, and it'll probably kill me.

I suppose between smoking and the car or war and disease, I think I'd pick the former to cull the human race on this over populated dot of rock.

Half theses stupid laws wouldn't be needed if people started behaving in a considered manner, but I can't really see that happening any time soon.

Raising the buying age, I can't see it making any difference when you consider the availability of illegal drugs to all and sundry these days.

Why? The other countries will be sheep, they'll soon follow.

But I might be 18 by then. ;)

I don't think it's going to make much difference, really. I've been buying cigarrettes for the past two years, legal or not. If you look 'of age', no-one will stop you.

:yeahthat:

I couldn't agree more.

I would like to clarify though, that I wish I had NEVER taken up smoking, and that the less time you have been a smoker, the easier it is to stop...

Good for you Mike! Don't worry we'll all put up with any stroppy nicotine withrawal induced behaviour.

Me too, trust me. I don't have the willpower to quit on my own, and I'm allergic to the patches, so I'll have to see it out for a while yet. I'm not trying to justify it, since I really can't do that, but...well, I don't actually have a point here other than "I am weak".

My dad was a smoker for 16 years, but he gave up when my sister has born. Which makes it alsmost 20 years since he's had a cigarette. See, so you do have the willpower, you just havent found it yet. Theres a glimmer of hope for you kelly ;)

Is Scott trying to stop?

As I said Kelly, the longer you smoke the harder it is to give up. I know!

I have, however, promised in the past not to hassle you anymore.

So, my gob is shut now!

I'm the same as you, I managed to quit for 6months using zyban. Started smoking again after an idiot in a car used me for brakes, and in the two hour wait for the ambulance managed to puff my way through 3 tabs. That's two things in life I regret, starting smoking, twice. I believe the only benefit nicotine has is if your exposed to it before your 30 it can help ward off Parkinson's disease in later life.

I know people who only smoke at weekends. Social smokers if you like, i think thats ok.

I've got friends like that, don't see the point myself

I think its been done with good intent, and the Idea itself is basically good, but I dont think it will make much of a difference. Smoking should be banned altogether - instead of selling cigarettes, why not set up suicide clinics, where you can get the job done faster, cheaper, and with slightly less pain....

The most heroic act is the one that no-one knows about.

Ban smoking? Never gonna happen. :)

It won't, because the Government make so much money from smokers. I love those people that say the NHS uses all of their resources to look after smokers when they get ill. Bull. Jeremy Clarkson put it best when he said this;

Smokers pay £19,000 a minute to the Exchequer, and that's enough to pay for the whole police force. Or to put it another way, for every £1 we cost the NHS, we give it £3.60. Please don't encourage the state to dictate how I live my life.

I agree and I fully believe that the Government would legalise many drugs if they could, just for the money they could make from the tax.

    • Well looks like Mollie is off all month now so presumably a personal matter.
    • Intrigued why Matt & Mollie aren't presenting breakfast on Monday, with James in for them instead (which has happened before).. or even James given a chance to present the breakfast show?
    • Sam & Danni seem to be down for Breakfast on Monday. James Cusack on Going Home. That’s another new name in the list of “people who have hosted Going Home in 2025”.
    • Wednesday, surely? But this is another mess, as this weeks Summer press release said it’ll be Sam & Danni no Jamie from the 28th - so it’s actually a whole week earlier!
    • Jamie Laing’s last show before his summer break will be on Wednesday 16th July.
    • I worked out once Scott spent 3 months of a year off his own slot in the Moyles days and more like 4 in Grimmys days, six weeks of his own holiday and projects, six covering Grimmy plus some ad hoc days
    • Back on topic, I think there's quite a few of the current Radio 1 presenters who would be able to adapt to Radio 2's style in the future. It's more of question of how many of them will actually end up there. With much of R2's line up changed over the past couple of years, it's quite possible we won't see much movement there, and R2 management might even decide to look elsewhere to bring in new presenters in future.
    • With OJ covering on bank holidays. She is the best person for the job however... they're going to end up with a situation like Scott covering R1 breakfast back in the day, where she spends quite a bit of time off her own slot covering Breakfast, plus her own holiday and other commitments. She's been filming for something recently which has meant she's been off several days a week since May. She was off last week, on breakfast this week, OJ is on Mon/Tues next week, then She's off the following two weeks.
    • Looking back at this I would say now that Sara is the main cover - I think she has been reestablished as it now
    • Purley on the R1 Dance station.. Someone on DS said don't expect to see any changes to the schedule on the new stations however if they are taking on Capital Dance with this, which they clearly are, which has live presenters 7am - 10pm except for the 11am mix then they'll surely have to have a proper scheduled set of shows. At the moment Arielle is the only "live" per say show and only "live" a few days a week with earlier shows being repeated Thursday Friday and Saturday. Connor and Charlie are clearly pre records but was this only for the time it was online only and they have already got a schedule ready to go on day 1? also of note is that Charlie is taking over a podcast as well as starting a new project with podcasting which makes me wonder if she is about to step back from Dance Anthems all together to concentrate on those and Connor takes over? So you could have Arielle doing 9-12 weekdays live then someone else 12-3 and Connor live 3-6 on R1D and doing Dance Anthems on a Saturday.
    • As none of the Going Home Team aren't currently on the air, that's a bit if an issue. Considering most of the Dance DJs will be out there, I'm surprised none of them are being utilised to host the 1-4 slot that weekend.
    • Going Home presenters have done the last few years ?
    • Nat and Vicky are being sent to Ibiza this year. They’ll be live on Friday 1st August from 1-4pm.
    • Since Radio 1 Dance and Anthems have been allowed to broadcast on DAB, do we think they’ll be a proper schedule of shows like on Radio 1 Dance with the morning show and Dance Anthems at drive time. Maybe Lauren Redfern, Tyler Selby, Chrissy Cameron or Matt Hallsworth will be scheduled on named shows like Hits Radio 00s or Capital Anthems rather than the generic ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ show. Obviously it would probably cost more to produce actual shows on the station however.
    • There's been a lot of positive reaction to the Mylo and Rosie news so am interested now to hear what their shows are like. And yep wouldn't be surprised if they stay on beyond July as cover ever so often. And that Friday-Sunday news was hidden in the small print a little. It presumably means we lose Party Anthems all that month as that is what has happened this year with Big Weekend, Glasto for example. I certainly I hope it isn't Party Anthems being quietly axed full stop - it and Future Pop are 2 real hidden gems on Radio 1.
