They just want more money. Teenagers are still going to binge drink, even if it costs 10p a drink more or whatever. They'll just end up more broke, and be more screwed when it comes to University. Meanwhile, University fees will go up to £20,000 a year, everyone will leave at least £100,000 in debt and you'll need a degree in order to work in McDonalds. The chavs will continue to live off the state while the rest of us struggle to earn any money.

The only way this will ever work is if they tax it by an extra £5 a pint, even I would stop drinking then. They wont however because they are too scared of losing even more voters.

Why do you think they don't ban smoking all together. It would save a hell of a lot of money on the NHS though. Don't worry, Tories are next in control so they will sort out the countries money problems (they are good at that kinda thing).

Hope not..with "Dave-no policies in sight-Cameron" in charge there'll be more unemployment and privatisation than before Labour came to power.. :bah:

and anyway, I don't see anyone else here coming up with ideas to stop binge drinking.. personally I'd just lock up the dodgy store managers who're making a fortune from selling alcohol illegally.. :-X

Education doesn't seem to work with teenagers, nor do graphic adverts, so what else could the government do? :-?

Thank god when the ID cards come in. Then bars/clubs/shops/licensed stores will have no excuse not to stop teenagers to buy drink. The problem is that there is no fixed ID that a person has to produce. I know the ID cards is highlighted as the saviour of terrorism (which it won't) but its a good idea on the whole, as long the government don't make it ridiculously high-priced to get one.

Also, why hasn't the government taken a hard line approach and amended the law? They could say if a premises is selling drink to teenagers, then they are fined and the premises is closed for a period as punishment. Will make them more vigilant next time.

Just to finish off, I will be glad to see Labour out next time round. We need a change.

Lots of adults binge drink though, over 18s, and are just as antisocial as those who are underage.

The standard ID is passport or photographic driving licence most places, and I generally get ID'd, they are pretty vigilant.

I don't think tax is the answer to this, because as long as teenagers think it is cool to binge drink, they will do it. In my experience, aged 15-16 is worst for this.
