what do you think of supermarkets taking over every town, and what about what they sell? is it any good, do they damage the environment?

Supermarkets. They do damage the environment, because huge HGVs transport stuff all over the place. But how many people can actually be bothered to go to their local shops instead? At home we do our main shop from the supermarket but we get a lot of our fruit and veg from the market which is more environmentally friendly and cheaper.

I don't like the control supermarkets have over smaller suppliers, that is wrong. But they are more convenient than small shops, because they are open late, sometimes 24 hours, and that means they fit more into modern lifestyles.

I hope there's one in Sheringham soon. Bloody protestors. It's a fecking supermarket. Get over it. If it destroys your poxy little shop then boo hoo. I want cheap clothes. Electronics. CDs etc. The shops around here are crap. I'd rather be in a town where I can access all these things rather than being in a "pretty lovely" town.

yeh the funny thing is, that the woman who leads he campaign in sheringham against the tesco, has a book which is sold there! so she is making money from it! she's got her Priorities right

If they don't build supermarkets in areas like that, people will just drive further to go to the supermarket, destroying the environment further. People want to go to the supermarket, so these campaigns won't achieve much.

I think supermarkets should fund the restoration of a woodland for every woodland they demolish.

I'd like to see greater regulation of supermarkets and tougher laws introduced on planning and building.

That's what they were doing here. Wanting to demolish the fire station and some flats. And then rebuild them elsewhere.

I think there are more than enough now. I only live in a small village in Nottinghamshire and I can easily access four supermarkets: 2 Asda's, a Tesco and a Morrison's. There's also a Co-Op, but I don't deem them to be evil.

We have Budgens in my town. 8 miles or so down the road there's a 'Rainbow' or Morrisons. That's about it for the 15 mile radius. And yet people moan about having one...

Round here I have found an Iceland and a fairly big Sainsburys.

Where I live there is a Somerfield, a Sainsburys and an Iceland but they are all the smaller inner city style supermarkets, then there's a big Tesco a few miles away and a big out of town style Sainsburys next to Ikea. I go to Sainsburys on my bike sometimes, otherwise I usually go to Somerfield because the staff at the central Sainsburys are just rude to me.

I think it's worthwhile having the choice of supermarkets rather than one supermarket monopolising an area.

Yeah, but that's miles away! It'd take a good 45 minutes to get there.

I live on the wirral and can easily access 5 supermarkets, the longest being about a 15min/20min drive to get there. We have 2 Asda's, 2 Sainsbury's and 1 tesco. There's also talk of them building a Morrisons!

Um you said 15 minute radius, now to get to fakenham from where you live takes 25 mins and is 14 miles
